yeah its for my front. high-flange radial spoking looks so dope on 80's road bikes.

i wasn't sure how these axles look like from inside the hubs, if i come up with something i'll let you all know!

LordFoo 03-26-09 12:04 PM

Also worth noting that Formula makes some cup+cone hubs as well.. so post a pic/figure out what kind of hardware is in there!

veteran_youth 03-26-09 02:51 PM

If the bearings were a reasonably tight fit on the axle threads, you could cut a sleeve to 78mm (shorter for the front) and use it as a bearing spacer.

Sidis bought. They better last longer than 1 year.

aMull 03-26-09 07:23 PM

Looks like sunday might be a little ****ty for the donut ride...hope it changes.

All I can say is have "ride" shoes and commuting shoes. I've got a new pair of Sidis on order but I'm also going to find something to ride to/from work in. I'm sick of blowing up expensive shoes.

Anyone seen these around town?

They're SixSixOne Filters. I'm after the SPD-compatible version (looks the same, accepts cleats).

kergin 03-26-09 08:34 PM

I think Wes has a similar pair by Shimano. Completely agree on having more than one set of shoes. I might just keep my old Specialized shoes around for commuting; either that or some clips+straps.

shapelike 03-26-09 09:23 PM

I've never been a fan of those, actually. The laces cover is a bit much.

Flimflam 03-27-09 05:18 AM

I use Cannondale Roams for most of my utility riding - seeing as my Sidi's (road, not MTB) are just plain impractical for anything BUT riding, I don't wear them unless I don't have to go walk about. Learned that the hard way last week by wearing them to work. Most inconvenient clip-clopping about on the GO train and station stairs.

Here here! someone needs to come up with a way to convert a normal pair of shoes to spd!
Id love to wear my fila dunks with spds!

Hey flimflam, I saw you at brock/dundas at 7:51! (I was heading north on brock)

elTwitcho 03-27-09 06:42 AM

Someone needs to take a pair of chuck taylor's, reinforce the sole (and everything else actually) and make them SPD compatible and they'll make a bajillion dollars for sure.

ElTwitcho, do you sell the photos on your photo blog?

Hey! sorry I didn't see you - was passing by the Greyhound station before heading up to North York. When I came back west across Harbord I did notice you guys had already opened up shop though :)

Actually thought I was following tam for a few mins this morning but quickly realised it wasn't her.

Saw a bunch of guys up around St. Clair/Lansdowne looking to be on some sort of training ride, waiting for others at the south end of the cemetary there.

Nice enough out there considering the temperature was supposedly -1, though - can't wait 'til the ride home in apparent +11, woo.

elTwitcho 03-27-09 08:19 AM

Yeah the weather is going to be perfect for CM tonight.

iherald - I do. I'll send you a PM

i've got a pair of those and don't mind them. they're sized a bit tight but other than that are fine for commuting. most of the time these days i don't even bother with them and use sneakers with clips/straps instead.

Fluevog tried to make an SPD shoe that looked like a regular shoe and the soles kept breaking in half. When he made stiffer soled shoes, they were uncomfortable. Kind of a Catch-22 I guess.

TRaffic Jammer 03-27-09 11:49 AM

I'm trying to picture what a Fluevog riding shoe would be like. My Fluevog creepers are nice and all but they aren't light by any means. Didn't Airwalk make a pair ages ago?

Bummer. Last week I did some laps on the grass/mud and a stick got stuck in my spokes. Well I just realized the rim cracked...

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3580/...2d480ca608.jpg

Any suggestion where to get a decent rim at a decent price?

kergin 03-27-09 10:52 PM

Unless you have a hook-up with some shop, I would start looking online. Most shops are just going to charge you whatever the MSRP is.

darn those shops, trying to stay in business and everything

kergin 03-28-09 08:44 AM

If you get those it pretty much means you're going to ride BMX. :D

TRaffic Jammer 03-28-09 09:16 AM

I wonder how skateable those are? Interesting.
The cover is great but how far does the mount inset? Can you cover them with the cleat installed and go for a session on the ramp?

kylehutton 03-28-09 09:45 AM

isnt it weird that the spd mount isnt in the middle of the shoe?
wouldnt that create hotspots on the inside of your feet?

exhibitx 03-28-09 10:08 AM

it's probably too bulky and wide to put it in the middle

If I could do it all over again I would absolutely ride BMX. In the final battle of insane bike-handling skills it's going to be trials riders (too eurotrashy), downhill racers (bikes are too expensive/finicky) and BMXers, who will win.

From the old guys racing to the **** that kids can pull on the street I have nothing but respect for that particular area of cycling.

Cycling shoes always have the cleat biased inboard a bit. It's just exaggerated in this case because the shoes are so bulky.

jet sanchEz 03-28-09 12:45 PM

Speaking of BMX, I saw a woman riding around town on an old Haro Master from the late '80s, probably and 86 or so. Such an amazing amazing bike, everyone wanted one of those bikes but they were too expensive back in the day so we all settled for Norcos. The last thing I need is a BMX bike but man, it looked so nice...

cupcrazy4 03-28-09 10:18 PM

man, if only this was bigger than a 56cm...
