+1 I start out my day once I get to Whitby with a nice breakfast special from the local greasy spoon (Sidelines on Brock N@Dundas, highly recommended).

lol! Nice one.. you know how to get directly to my nerdy heart.

TRaffic Jammer 09-17-08 11:06 AM

atta boy.. it's one of those food groups they don't talk about. It's part of what makes pizza the perfect food. Adding beer to pizza and you have all the food groups covered in a single sit down, IF you put veg on it that is.

Holding it closed.. Otherwise it looked like a gaping mouth. :P

1. greasy spoon breakfast makes me feel like a slouch when riding....
2. Wes, that's gross. Can we see pics with the maw gaping?
3. Stuart, how did you pull your groin?
4. That fixie was totally ridden around the block twice.
5. Value village jacket for the lulz.

Is anyone interested in a road ride this weekend?

~Stuart~ 09-17-08 12:19 PM

boardmeeting....

you know, skateboard, and shirt and tie

Anyone got any recommendations for clips and straps that will work with boots? That's the final piece of the puzzle for my winter bike...

Herbie_Glick 09-17-08 01:19 PM

MKS XL sized steel clips are huge! Not sure who makes the longest strap though.

I_bRAD 09-17-08 01:20 PM

Is that something I can buy from you?

Powergrips perhaps? I have some but haven't tried them with boots yet. Urbane has them. I do have XL clips if you want.

kergin: depending on my time, I'm in for a road ride.

Anyone going to the Bike Pirates deal on Friday? There's a 'ride' and a 'race' from their old location (College/Bathurst) to their apparent new place (Bloor/Lansdowne). Deets on FB here

XL Power Grips fo'sheezy.

I_bRAD 09-17-08 03:07 PM

So they're secure enough to ride fixed without trouble? That's why I want the straps, otherwise I'd just run bmx platforms like I have every other winter.

Shants (in the main forum) used them and liked them, so did Charlie and Mike. Search for posts in the main forum and you will find pros/cons people had. Here is one to start with.

I have Powergrips on the fixed gear. I'm a big fan. I find them more secure than clips and straps but easier to get out of. Of course, my winter boots are probably the size of most people's normal shoes...

tuz 09-17-08 06:02 PM

You can't adjust the straps on the fly with Powergrips, but they won't loosen... Easier to fit many types of shoes since you don't have to bend deform a clip. They are not the prettiest though. So far I like them on my beater/winter bike.

~Stuart~ 09-18-08 12:10 AM

stupid polo.

now i need a polo bike

if you're talking full-on winter sorels then i'd say you're best off with powergrips. i tried jamming my feet into clips last winter to no avail. another option that worked well for me was bmx pedals with the gripper-screw things on them. i think i'm going that route again this year...

I have my doubts that my "big" winter boots will fit into any kind of straps, except snowshoe straps. Most of the time I wear garrison boots though, and they're not that much bigger than shoes. I think I'm gonna go with the powergrips.

Thanks for the tips everyone!

And of course, the more I think about it, the more I want to do to it. Has anyone ever had different dropouts welded onto their frame? Was it expensive? The dropouts I have now are really short and it's limiting my gearing options.

ALSO: What are you guys running for ratios in the winter? I run 70 GI in the summer, but I'd like a little more torque to get through the heavy bits. I don't need to go fast, but I don't want to be going at walking speed either! I'm thinking somewhere around 60 but I'd like to hear what you guys are running.

pyze-guy 09-18-08 06:21 AM

I ride my commuter 42/14 and in the winter went 42/16. I might go 39/15 this year.
