Hey guys, think I should jump on a new 07 kona smoke converted to singlespeed for $350 as my snow bike?

Don't you already have a nice Cyclocross bike for winter?

350 sounds decent.

Yeah I do, but its not really 'for winter'. My cx bike is the nicest bike I have and I'm slowly setting it up for long haul touring. It stays locked up indoors and is set up for fast, dry winter riding at the moment... I don't really wanna beat it up and invite rust since its fairly thin triple butted steel.

Hence why a dedicated winter bike appeals to me, especially if they will customize it off the peg for no charge.

Get it. Thats a great price for an off the rack Kona thats good to go for winter. Would be hard to get parts to build one for the same price unless you have a frame ready. Are going to use a tensioner, or a half link? Is the rear wheel a conversion, or a dedicated s/s? Just curious (I have a great s/s wheel available as well that is for sale, excellent rim and sealed hub).

Other options are

http://toronto.craigslist.org/bik/246886507.html
or
http://toronto.craigslist.org/bik/246432601.html
but this would probably be to small and I don't know if you are looking to do a build.

Edit: The more I look at the Smoke, the more I like it. $350, awesome price.

tovi 12-10-06 01:30 PM

So last night around 10ish I was riding westbound on College towards this party I'm going to get wasted at... I'm stopped at the red light at Bathurst, and just as the light turns green, I see this chick blow by me on an olive-green fixie with a honey Brooks. Wow! Needless to say, I catch up to her and strike up a conversation, but I mean there's only so much you can say when you're trying to pay attention to her and make sure you don't get run over at the same time.

Does anybody know this girl? Is she on this forum? If so, I want her phone number. I don't know if it was a proper fixie or a conversion, but the bike was definately olive-green, didn't have any decals, looked pretty old, but had a nice and shiny Brooks B17 (or Professional). Oh, and blond hair. And she can really move.

Someone help me out!

tovi 12-10-06 01:31 PM

Oh, and if it helps identifying her, she said she also rides a blue Ciocc.

tovi 12-10-06 01:41 PM

Darkmother: I got a flat right at Bathurst and Highway 7 and didn't have any tubes. Worst ride evah!

Well, it appears to need a bit of work but I'll get you over for a cup of mud once I've got it fixed up and dialed in. It may be a bit of an older one so I need to check the temperature on it and the seals etc.

Now I need to create a coffee altar in my kitchen for it.

i wouldn't worry about the age; those machines seem to last forever. any price paid for those is a deal based on the amount of time it will last.

can i suggest velvet ropes, insence (sp), and an oil painting of it sitting in the altar?

Bought a Trek Sonic 2006 helmet, 40% off. Fits nice and less uncool than my present cheapo Raleigh. All I was looking for really.

Too bad it's too small for me, I have 3 1" threaded forks begging to be used.

did you happen to see the new trek track / SS complete bike they had in there? looked pretty nice (despite the rear brake cable being held to the frame with zip ties). the kona "paddy wagon" looks like a nice complete bike as well. i saw one locked up on front street complete with rack and fenders; nice design.

I can only have one Pint or two of stout soooo me buying a 26er does not make much sense but it sounded like a fun idea

Offhoff 12-10-06 03:51 PM

Tovi, I suggest a good old missed connection....

edit: of all things Apple why does it need to be so damn hard to get the memory access panel open on my G4...ugh
