Still interested in those Easton bars, Kyle?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that a police auction tag hanging from the bars?

cav: I've also heard about the 2x4 bit, but how much force would you need on a small piece of 2x4 to really break the ring? I've also heard that the freeze/thaw cycle significantly weakens the metal itself, causing the post to become brittle.

Can't be too much... I once saw a guy near Dundas and McCaul working on one with a tree branch that was even wimpier than a 2x4.

So well thought out you can break the ring from the post with a small length of 2x4. Don't get a false sense of security with those things.

didn't the city acknowledge that this was a problem? and said they would double up all the rings? never seemed to happen, i don't think i've seen a double ring yet and that was years ago

jeremywhitehorn 05-25-08 10:14 AM

there's a few around - but seem to be few and far between...

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3266/...a32005.jpg?v=0

obviously, it need pedals and i'd really like a porteur-style front rack for it but the lady insists we buy new furniture first. still not sold on the rear rack but i can't find a better front rack that i like. any suggestions?

now to build a SS CX...

jeremywhitehorn 05-25-08 09:59 PM

i love cold creemore after a six day week. that is all.

jet sanchEz 05-25-08 11:13 PM

Very very nice, I am thinking of making my SS into a townie, just for fun. I think I have all the parts too....

Woo, giraffe bike!

Flimflam 05-26-08 05:48 AM

Holy huge frame, batman

Looking very nice there, Jeremy.

I had a mostly sun-filled weekend including a flat change via campfire light, a trip to the skatepark and some singletrack in the valley, good weather, good times :p

I've seen a couple of doubled up rings (one was just recently but can't remember where), but very few and far between :( I've no idea why stores buy big racks and then don't secure them.

Good to see you yesterday Brad/Tam - big crowd.

pyze-guy 05-26-08 05:52 AM

Post 40 000. Yeah me.

Bike ride was great last night, climbing hills sucks though. Shoulder might be good next week for some Don riding.

Edit, er it was 40000 this morning.

shapelike 05-26-08 07:08 AM

Re: your gimp shoulder, let me know when you want to hit the trails again and I'll be there.

Sound editor for Mac that's not Logic ... Audacity (it's open source) or something else? I don't want to record music or anything, but I would like a mature interface and decent feature set (it'll be used for ripping/editing audio from cds/dvds/etc.). Basically I need something that's not necessarily for musicians but is worth my time to learn and that'll I'll get some use out of in the future.

What about Garageband?

kylehutton 05-26-08 07:55 AM

ok, so i finally got around to getting a new bucket yesterday
riding with that bmx helmet had finally gotten to me, and i got a giro monza.

the difference is incredible.
so much lighter, and you can actually feel the vents.

edit

also.... jeremy's bike inspired me to seriously start planning this out

does anyone have any recommendations for a relatively cheap frame that
has clearance for full fenders? looking for a new winter bike
my current winter bike doesnt even have clearance for 25c tires, let alone fenders.

and/or

any cheap(ish) single speed capable frames that can take a cross disc fork?
i think dimension has a disc only fork that has a 400mm dropout to crown measurement

TRaffic Jammer 05-26-08 08:41 AM

Helmetcam TEST video upload. Too bouncy on helmet it seems .. bike mounted seems steadier.

i use a iro jamie roy for my winter bike, it has eyelets for fenders, space for full fenders, i think i run 28's and fenders on there ... plus it's alloy which is good for winter

i for one hate the new IRO site.
they should have a lofi option for people who just want to look at the geometry instead of having to "build your bike"

also, they arent showing the jamie roy on there at all.

Not so bad though, the only issue I find with my cam on my helmet is the looking around/shoulder checks I do, Lucas Brunelle doesn't seem to move his head at all when he checks intersections (and I think he always has his cameras on the helmet) so it's hard to replicate that for me personally - otherwise looks pretty decent though - how does it fix to your helmet? Mine is a rubber strap that I've got on there, it has a lot of give so on the big bumps it whacks around a lot, and I put the thing on the side, which made angling the camera FOV tricky without my videos being lopsided (as most of my early vids were)
