Yeah I had a Portuguese fanfair to deal with late last Friday night - was entertaining, but a tad bothersome with the random drunk peds everywhere (even in little Italy on College!).
Where's the recommended entry point for DSR tonight? I don't want to arrive there late and come in the sprint side by accident. |

So happy Italy lost. Hopefully Portugal is next.
not only did i get to see hundreds of grown italian men crying like babies, but i also got a good night sleep (i live in the bar district in Milan) |
Even though I'm Italian I too am glad Italy lost, because, when it comes right down to it, I'm just a mysanthrope.

I wish that level of energy and support (moral and financial) would be put behind the Canadian soccer team(s). That way, we might actually see a win in our lifetime.
Not only did Italy lose...but they lost to my favorite place next to home. HUP HOLLAND! |
Is Poland still in it? I am guessing the answer is "no" because Roncesvalles has been very quiet lately. Although a whole convoy of Portuguese fans came into the 'hood today, presumably to rub it in, so maybe the Pols have a game this weekend?

Great DSR tonight! I fell off the start 'riding" my Kronan. Amazing prizes.

i don't think 44/15 is unreasonable for a new rider but if you're experiencing knee pain - aside from bike fit as you mentioned - too high a gear ratio for you might have something to do with it. try dropping it and see what happens. 44/16 doesn't give you a lot of skid patches, though, so if that's a concern drop to 17. do you have / are you using a brake?
one other thing to consider;were you heavy into biking before you started riding fixed or has it sort of "re-introduced you to cycling" so to speak? I ride with a front brake but try not to use it unless I need to (getting surprised by a door, pedestrian, etc.). I'm starting to get the hang of 'flow', not pushing too hard to get to a red light. I'm not into skidding yet as I just put cages on my pedals today. I guess that's something I'm going to be working on eventually. Oh, that reminds me of another thing I wanted to ask- Do most of you do your own repairs/mods to your bikes? I've never been into that before but I've so far put a new seat on and installed new pedals. Where do you all go for parts/tools/advice? |

Last night in the Don I ditched the Camelback so I could focus on breathing from my gut (instead of my chest, which I normally do). It helped a lot. My particular hydration pack has two straps across the front and I'd noticed a few times in the past that it was messing with my already-inefficient breathing. |

Didn't see you there Mark, sorry (I was kinda out of it and came much later anyway, just as Cam/Toby/Mosher were doing their final runs) |

Yeah, that is one of the best things about a ss/fg bike I think, pretty much anything you can/will want to do is fairly easy. MEC for tools, urbane/curbside/internet/etc for parts.
I'd also like to submit Cycle Solutions, Cycle Therapy & La Carrera as part sources - all three of which are represented well by members of this forum. Advice - this is a good place to ask for help that doesn't need to be seen and generally speaking if you've got a problem, Sheldon (RIP) has probably already addressed it. |

great profile on cervelo in this month's ROB small business. the paragraph with racer sportif made me chortle. if the writer had uncovered that they are an unauthorized dealer i don't think dennis' little stab would have made it into the story at all. |
Driving to Albion this Sunday morn (for 10am) with my team. Anyone interested in accompanying me? Planning on heading back to see what ever is left of worlds.

I like the analogy in that Cervelo article that the main guy makes between Ferraris and Porsches, I wonder if he had Colnago in mind? |
i dunno, i always thought that rich old white men bought porsches because it was that exact kind of "rich white old" status symbol they were looking for. you know, like the dime-a-dozen silver boxsters you see everywhere. that seems like a pretty close analogy to cervelo. (caveat: if i could afford it, i would.)

There is something to say about expensive performance stuff, be they bikes or sports cars. Something designed to perform, in the right hands is a joy to use. Unfortunately they can be damned expensive. As for the rich white old man stigma, it falls to economics, I see a fair number of well to do ladies, whipping around in Porches these days too. If you can afford it, and you enjoy your purchase, why the heck not, you can't take it with you. If I could afford a Porsche, I think I'd have a Caymen.
If I could drop several thousand bucks on bikes I'd do it in a heartbeat, just to be able to jump on the pedals and see what I could get said bikes to do for me. http://cmwc2008.com/registered.php so far on the site .... about 430 register racers...woot! So looking forward to this weekend! Going Saturday solo on my bike and then Sunday I'll be heading down with the kids. |
I've always thought of Porsches as a car that was appealing to people who love cars and Ferraris as cars that are appealing to rich people. I have a couple of friends who actually saved up money to buy a Porsche because they are guys who love driving. They'd never do that to buy a Ferrari since a Ferraris is more about the "look" than the driving.
I kinda think that about Colnagos----great looking bikes but a bit over-hyped. There is also some sort of relationship between Colnago and Ferrari but I don't know if it is a partnership or if Colnago merely slaps some Ferrari stickers on a bike and calls it a collaboration. |

Well said TJ. All the 2 wheelers in my stable are gems of varying degrees. I won't do without them (although I did sell one to Keith last year) and I take turns riding them because they're all great bikes, the shiney ones with no scratches and the ones I beat the bejesus out of daily. The newest one is a fun bike - got it last week - Specialized single speed. Wow, like a kid again! |
and don't forget kids: Abdominal (local ex bike messenger rapper) hits the stage at 2 on Saturday, our own Duppy was the strong man in his video.
The Raconteurs (Jack White from White Stripes' fun band) new offering, Consolers Of The Lonely is rockin'...just sayin' |

I noticed this on the site: "In 1995, the U.S. based Bicycling magazine named Toronto as North America's most bike-friendly city." Really? I haven't been here that long, but it doesn't seem so anymore. What changed? |
Ironically it was '95 when the CMWCs were here last. Correlation?
|
Another question for you guys, what do you think is the best day and time of day to drive and park downtown, as far as traffic goes? I've ridden downtown numerous times and it's pretty bad. Hows Saturday and Sunday downtown?I want to bring a bike to a shop there and using subway and bus is a little far for me to drag a bike along and then back again.
