Yeah I had a Portuguese fanfair to deal with late last Friday night - was entertaining, but a tad bothersome with the random drunk peds everywhere (even in little Italy on College!).

Great DSR tonight! I fell off the start 'riding" my Kronan. Amazing prizes.

I was riding a cruiser for two years, and then this spring I got a road bike and just fell in love with the feeling of speed. So I was definitely biking, but it was more A to B; whereas now I'm biking just because I like it.
I ride with a front brake but try not to use it unless I need to (getting surprised by a door, pedestrian, etc.). I'm starting to get the hang of 'flow', not pushing too hard to get to a red light. I'm not into skidding yet as I just put cages on my pedals today. I guess that's something I'm going to be working on eventually.

Oh, that reminds me of another thing I wanted to ask- Do most of you do your own repairs/mods to your bikes? I've never been into that before but I've so far put a new seat on and installed new pedals. Where do you all go for parts/tools/advice?

Last night in the Don I ditched the Camelback so I could focus on breathing from my gut (instead of my chest, which I normally do). It helped a lot. My particular hydration pack has two straps across the front and I'd noticed a few times in the past that it was messing with my already-inefficient breathing.

Yeah, that is one of the best things about a ss/fg bike I think, pretty much anything you can/will want to do is fairly easy. MEC for tools, urbane/curbside/internet/etc for parts.

i dunno, i always thought that rich old white men bought porsches because it was that exact kind of "rich white old" status symbol they were looking for. you know, like the dime-a-dozen silver boxsters you see everywhere. that seems like a pretty close analogy to cervelo. (caveat: if i could afford it, i would.)

There is something to say about expensive performance stuff, be they bikes or sports cars. Something designed to perform, in the right hands is a joy to use. Unfortunately they can be damned expensive. As for the rich white old man stigma, it falls to economics, I see a fair number of well to do ladies, whipping around in Porches these days too. If you can afford it, and you enjoy your purchase, why the heck not, you can't take it with you. If I could afford a Porsche, I think I'd have a Caymen.

If I could drop several thousand bucks on bikes I'd do it in a heartbeat, just to be able to jump on the pedals and see what I could get said bikes to do for me.

I've always thought of Porsches as a car that was appealing to people who love cars and Ferraris as cars that are appealing to rich people. I have a couple of friends who actually saved up money to buy a Porsche because they are guys who love driving. They'd never do that to buy a Ferrari since a Ferraris is more about the "look" than the driving.

I kinda think that about Colnagos----great looking bikes but a bit over-hyped. There is also some sort of relationship between Colnago and Ferrari but I don't know if it is a partnership or if Colnago merely slaps some Ferrari stickers on a bike and calls it a collaboration.

Well said TJ. All the 2 wheelers in my stable are gems of varying degrees. I won't do without them (although I did sell one to Keith last year) and I take turns riding them because they're all great bikes, the shiney ones with no scratches and the ones I beat the bejesus out of daily. The newest one is a fun bike - got it last week - Specialized single speed. Wow, like a kid again!

Another question for you guys, what do you think is the best day and time of day to drive and park downtown, as far as traffic goes? I've ridden downtown numerous times and it's pretty bad. Hows Saturday and Sunday downtown?I want to bring a bike to a shop there and using subway and bus is a little far for me to drag a bike along and then back again.
