for those riding the ride for heart tomorrow, enjoy and hope the rain holds off. i was just down at the ex doing some laps and getting soaked; it looks like they are all set up for the ride.

I was at the Toronto Crit for a bit, it was cool to see some wicked-nice bikes and the crowd was pretty good too. I talked to an older guy for a bit and we were both surprised that the two leaders of the race lapped the pack. He was from California and said that there are crits there all the time but that has never happened in a race that he had ever seen. I don't know too much about crits but does this sound correct to anyone else?

Perhaps in the states they don't mix the categories therefore no one gets lapped by racers from a higher category?

I rode the Toronto Crit and expected to get lapped by Master 2 ( I'm M3 ), although ended up getting pulled out beforehand but not before getting into a crash exiting the south east corner ... Kinda pissed me off. Oh well.

No, but how much would it really cost to stick a cog/lock ring in bubble pack envelope and mail it off? That might be an option.

wow - sketchiest moment of biking yet: I'm coming back from a bachelor party at around 5AM, with far too much beer in my gut, when I arrive at Rogers Rd. & Dufferin. So I think to myself - self, I've never seen Ziggy's shop, so I head up to check out the storefront. Lo and behold, Ziggy & some guy come out from the alleyway right beside the shop and spot me just looking at the store. Other dude says, "moring", and I mouth the word morning back at him, then book it. Extreme sketch.

Wait, what was the sketchy part? Them thinking you were going to break in? You thinking they were carrying out a body?

nerdsgirth 06-01-08 07:54 AM

...or getting ready for an early morning ride?

Flimflam 06-01-08 10:47 AM

Good to see everyone at the ride today, good ride - sorry I didn't manage to find you again Pyze, we stopped for a while at the next stop as Dave had a smoke.

Now I think I'm ready for a feedbag.

I'm pretty sure they were thinking I was there to do no good... But I figured they were heading down to the Ex for H&S prep.

Oh yeah, food is good. So how was the ride across the Gardiner westbound? Nice headwind. I came home, ate, ate somemore and then naptime. So tired from catering all day Sat.

That was the first ride for heart that I've done. It's an interesting ride. I almost crashed a bunch of times as people decided the best way to take a break is to hit the brakes in the middle of the road.

My biggest peeve on the ride is the people who don't feel like checking around them when they change their line. Like is it that hard to make sure you aren't going to get smoked by another rider. One lady almost caused a massive accident as she drifted from the left lane all the way to the right on a downhill while braking without once looking around. Cyclists all voer swerving and swearing. Just oblivious to all others.

But the riders who stop in the road are pretty annoying to.

You could just as easily replace instances of cyclist and bike in the above quote with driver and car, and it would be just as relevant. A lot of people are just inconsiderate.

Absolutely - I guess most of the people riding aren't people who generally ride their bikes in traffic so they somehow think... well... I don't know what they think but they most certainly don't think "if I don't look around me I might take someone out / get taken out!"

One guy, at about the 45k point realized his sticker had fallen off so he just stopped dead in his tracks, rolled back and picked it up causing everyone to swerve at which point a lady almost took out my buddy's dad that we were riding with. You ****ing dickhead, you don't need the ****ing sticker past the starting line... DICKHEAD!

All in all a fun ride - I'll post up some pics from the ride once my server goes back online...

Great pictures, it's a shame I couldn't come and watch. Are they making it an annual race?

Pretty rough in spots, I just mashed into it and waited at the top of the offramp before the Ex. grounds - tired now, but loved the workout - scary as hell on those big downhills though :twitchy:

That headwind was a mother-Seems to me I was fighting headwinds all day today. This was my second Heart and Stroke ride. The wind was worse this time.

canice 06-01-08 09:29 PM

the winds were brutal, i was so gassed by the end of the ride.
