Anyone here willing to built/sell me a light, reliable track bike but with a free wheel? LMK! I am in Mississauga. Thanks!

Harv Cameron?

Krusty-----I just read your post again and the IRO is already covered in a powder-coat? If that is the case, you may want to take it off yourself because I think that Jet-Kote will not be able to remove it and instead, put the new powder-coat on top of the orange. That isn't a big deal, it just means that finer details such as embossings will not show up. I don't think IRO has anything like that , but just so you know....

I am getting my Ciocc re-done in the next couple of months and I will remove it's current coating myself so that when I give it to Jet-Kote, it will go on nice and thin, showing off the lubs/embossings well.

Powder is a Bi-Atch to remove.

I honestly don't know who it was who made it. I bought it at a shop on Parliament near Carlton that doesn't exist anymore. As I understand it, he also used to make aluminum forks as well. All I know is that if I powder coat it or paint it to match my frame, except for the area on each side that tapers in diameter for about 3/4", and polish those 2 spots, it will look fantastic.

I'm quite sure this IRO frame is painted, not powder coated. The rear spacing had been stretched out to 130ish. Thank goodness for steel. An hour with a steel surface plate, some straightedges, string, tape measures, a known straight rear wheel, and a bit of leverage, and it's back and straight at 120mm.

Anyone ever happen across this bike on Velospace?

I quite like it.

hey krusty, what colour is yr nagasawa and where'd ya pick it up from?

i've been doing some research on them the past few days and they're goooooorgeous.. and that's about the only time i'll ever admit to liking a frame that has sparkles.

krusty 08-21-08 09:34 PM

It's black with no sparkles. I bought it from a shop in Vancouver, after stumbling on it on Velospace and reading a comment underneath to the effect that it was for sale at this shop. The comment was from April, so I took a chance and picked up the phone and chatted for a bit with the shop owner, whose frame it was at the time. It left Vancouver on Monday, so I'm hoping it arrives tonight or tomorrow on the bus. Hopefully nobody cuts off its headset on the way.

vainglorious 08-21-08 09:48 PM

rawsome! yah, hope you get it soon.. way to luck out on it being available too. from what i hear, naga's sell like hotcakes.

Spinning Wheels. I bet it is a Harv Cameron. He made frames and forks as well. His shop was on Donlands for many years and he was certainly skilled with Alu manipulation.

Helicoil inserts aren't cheap if you do them yourself, but are really easy to do. I bought a kit to do the valve cover hold-down holes on my old Mercedes, which stripped with astounding ease, and it was over $100 for a package, including the necessary tap. If you just take them to a machine shop, they should be able to do it easily. However, it may prove cheaper to buy a new crank arm.

Thanks for the info - I remember there being some helicoil talk on the FGG forum some time ago and the fellas there were saying that their LBS would do a helicoil thread job for somewhere in the neighborhood of $10-$20. This seemed highly unlikely given the costs of less complicated tasks at most local shops.

Definitely - nice fella. I wasn't actually insinuating that he was a slow rider - just making a crack about him getting caught by the po-po.

belated, but james, that sucks so bad about your makino. by far one of the nicest bikes in the city. nicer than the san rensho, imo.

also, holy **** is it hard to find a black brake in this city that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. some guy at cycle solutions tried to sell me a zero gravity for $300 -- i laughed in his face.

kergin 08-21-08 10:55 PM

Um.. I bought some Cane Creek black caliper from Sweet Pete's for $40 or $50...

canice 08-21-08 11:02 PM

haven't been out that way yet. thanks for the heads up.

I've used one of those before as well and had very few complaints. I did manage to strip out the bolt that holds the cable tight but that's probably more my fault than anything.

Too bad Canice, a while ago Nashbar had black 105s going for around $10 - I think Tony scored some.

elTwitcho 08-22-08 09:21 AM

I have Tektro's on my bike that was assembled from Urbane, I assume they're the same brakes. They work alright, stopped me quick a couple times

It usually is but I found a secret method to remove it-----automotive gasket remover. Just spray it on, wait 10 minutes, and it peels off. About $4 a can, I was amazed because I had heard it was a pain in the ass and expensive.

I'd talked to Jet-Kote about removing it and they said that it is expensive to do and a real hassle. I also talked to a guy out in Hamilton who removes it but said that he would need at least $100 to do it. So I called a Harely shop out on the Queensway and the guy there said that he removed powder-coats with a gasket remover spray. It worked.

jet sanchEz 08-22-08 11:31 AM

I walked by the pawn shop on Queen near Dufferin and I saw that the guy has about 20 bikes for sale now. The last time I was there, he had about 5....methinks the pawn shops will be picking up Igor's slack. Bummer.

Heading out at 5ish to go to Mississauga from the bottom of Yonge, most likely take Dundas/Harbord/Bloor-y kinda route. Having dinner at the inlaws. Anyone up of a muggy into the sun rush hour roll?

Ouch Matt, hope she's OK.

Canice, +1 on the Tektro's, I got mine from Urbane. JensonUSA had some Shimano (105 I think hmm, 5500 series?)at a good price a little while ago but were ALWAYS out of stock. Doh.

Ron Burgundy tattoo... yowzers :p I'll have to show that to my sister, she'd love it :D

I won't be back in town 'til late, otherwise I'd love a roll around, only got in 10k this morning. Hopefully I'll have the weekend off.

kergin 08-22-08 02:57 PM
