Man O Man , watched the news .. I was a half block away from having a couple feet of water in my basement due to the rains last night. I knew those weird dirt marks on Queen E this morning near the track lane were from water. Holy Shi*! Leslie/Eastern was totally flooded.

I_bRAD 07-09-08 06:15 PM

Looks like I was a block away from getting struck by lightning too! A guy ostensibly got hit in Christie pits around 8 last night.
Also, a van got flooded up to the fenders at the dupont/shaw underpass.

operator 07-09-08 06:20 PM

yeah... getting killed by lightning. That would really suck.

TRaffic Jammer 07-09-08 06:46 PM

I saw on TV the bolt traveled down the outside of the tree, scarring it and then "zap", it got him.

Same here. You're most welcome.

I got home today to a small package containing a new Tune stem I had ordered from Germany for one of my road bikes, and a wife who noticed the 140euro value on the package. Oh well, it looks great on the bike! On a bright note, my new rear track wheel should be built by the weekend. I'm sure the final cost will make the stem seem a pittance.

 Hell hath no fury greater than a wife not gifted when new bike gear arrives.

Question: does anyone know a shop that will drill out the rear and front brake holes on a steel frame so it can accept recessed allen bolt type brakes?

operator 07-09-08 08:25 PM

We will

/shill

I'll lend you my drill if you want to DIY.

Hey Foo

How's the B17 working out?

aawwwwwweeeeeeeesssssoooooooooooommmmmmmmmmeeeeeeeeeeeee ride

although i totally bonked on my way home. had to walk up christie (well, more of a limp). but besides that it kicked ass, great to back on a bike again *still smiling*

I was shocked today to find MEC now carries ATAC pedals :O (im happy, but only because i get employee discount on them, and i have been looking for some reasonably priced ones for a while (by reasonably, and look, i mean i walked into one store that only had the high end ones))

shapelike 07-10-08 05:18 AM

Did I ever post the story about how I bonked on my commute?

I was heading east across down ... about to go from College to Queen via University. After I got on University I tried to draft off a cab, but it was going too fast. I was so close to it though I thought if I sprinted for a bit I could get in the slipstream. Nope, I got just enough of a draft to make it frustrating and keep my dumb ass sprinting for the real deal (aaallllll the way down University). I probably only ended up sprinting continuously for 2 minutes or something (albeit giving it my all) but when I turned onto Queen I realized my lungs were heaving and my whole body was basically done. As soon as I stopped pedaling I almost tipped off the bike ... my legs were just butter. It was everything I could do to keep from pulling over and collapsing on the sidewalk.

I got as far as Yonge before I finally felt up to riding in anything taller than my utmost granny gear combination and I had to nurse the bike for blocks and blocks after that. Woo! Proud moment. ;)

Follow-up: What build kit of the diSSent did you get?

kergin 07-10-08 05:30 AM

Its pretty remarkable to see how fast fitness levels drop after just a short period of time-I wonder if runners and other athletes have the same experience?

shapelike 07-10-08 05:41 AM

The guy that sits next to me in at Humber was going through some Web book and lancearmstrong.com was mentioned in a code example. I mentioned in passing about info on his cancer work and my classmate basically said, "Oh he's got cancer?" He totally had no idea about that whole saga. He just barely new that Lance was some hot **** American bike racer who won that big "Tour" race or something.

We live in a bubble. :) Or maybe he does ...

Swimming is the absolute worst for me (and others I have heard). You fall out of form so quickly, and it is hard to get back to where you were.

I got the NICE one. Almost went for the gold, but it was one of those "credit... or debit...". Naturally my common sense/ realizing if i bought the gold i would not have enough for pedals stopped me from getting the Gold. I dont know tooo much about mountain bike components, so im not too sure I would notice the difference between the two builds anyways, just weight.

I did it myself with a 5/16" (8mm) bit, only at the back of the fork. If you want to get fancy you can countersink the hole but that's not easy... For the rear I went all the way through the bridge and you might need to enlarge the hole on the radiussed (sp?) washer.

Fun ride last night, guys. That first big climb took the piss out of me and that last big drop scared the **** out of me, but it was still lots of fun. I'm Jon, by the way. You know, that guy on the black IRO who spent most of the night trying to catch up to the rest of you... Yeah, hi!
