dual or single pivot?

jeremywhitehorn 09-28-08 01:46 AM

for $150 matt - i'd say go for it if it's in your size and everything's up to snuf...

i would watch out for modolo brakes/levers though as they are aethetically pleasing but lack, shall we say, stopping power... the slx stuff is nice though - it was the first incarnation of 105 if i'm not mistaken...

I could see myself getting around on this:

Is that frame called the Comooter? :D Moots are really the nicest titanium frames - too bad they're also some of the most expensive.

I was heading out of Urbane yesterday and ended up chatting with someone about getting fenders on their bike. When I saw the bike, she mentioned it had a heart-shaped cutout in the BB. So someone is rockin' around town on either a DeRosa or Benotto. Pretty cool.

I_bRAD 09-28-08 07:30 AM

yeah, it's the comooter. Not sold as a frameset apparently though. Doesn't really matter as I'm not sure I would choose much differently.

Pretty damn close to my definition of a perfect ride! And all that for the same price I sold my SAAB for!

kergin 09-28-08 07:37 AM

the difference: this bike would last longer and give more fun.

The similarities: I can't afford either of them

jeremywhitehorn 09-28-08 08:14 AM

plus it wins for style points: steel fenders on an ti frame! the only thing too add that would make it perfect is a smallish front rack or basket IMO...

Thanks for all the input folks - I'm going to check it out today if the guy has still got it. It sounded like he was going to hold it for me but you never know...

Oh, I was saying Columbus SLX tubing, not shimano slx components... I think it's got Dura Ace brakes & derailleurs, Ultegra crankset and BB & Modolo stem & bars... Doesn't seem like a bad deal to me? Based on the guys description of when he replaced things, it doesn't sound stolen but I guess I'll get a better feel for that when I meet up with him today...

Say word! I may just have to throw a front rack on the winterbike I'm working on right now...

jeremywhitehorn 09-28-08 08:24 AM

oh, in that case i would say do it for sure, especially if it's got older dura ace stuff which i think tends to be pretty cool.

i was thinking the same thing but i'm hesitant to do it because running a front basket in the snow might make the handling just a bit scary.

Can anyone recommend where I can buy a reasonably priced track bike (sub $1k)?

Also, I have some decent Mavic wheels, would it be worthwhile to buy a frame and fork etc and build a bike? I have no problem buying a used frame and components.

jeremywhitehorn 09-28-08 08:40 AM

check out urbane - they can build you something for that price. if you don't mind stock bikes, you can get something for a lot less than that. but if you have wheels already, you may as well use them. take em to a shop and have them build you something around it...

Yesterday I noticed they had an EAI Bareknuckle frameset in baby blue for $750, and thats one hell of a nice frame. You don't see many (any?) in Toronto. Just add a headset, stem, bars, crank, etc...

caRpetbomBer 09-28-08 10:05 AM

Yeah i seen that EAI bareknucke at Urbane. Only if the frame was a 58cm i would of bought it.

jet sanchEz 09-28-08 10:10 AM

An SLX Gardin with all the bits hanging on it is certainly worth $150, it is just too bad that you cannot ride it to make sure the frame is straight.

Does anyone ride the Mavic SSC SL road wheelset? I am thinking of getting myself an early Christmas present...

A 58cm bareknuckle? How tall are you?? Bareknuckles feel rather large.

Also: there are definitely a couple of them being ridden in the city already. I already know at least one person (possibly two) riding one.

kergin: single pivot and oldskool bolt (not the fancyshmancy new one with the bigger rear hole :O )

someone today thought i was checking out his daughter, and followed me around the store for about 45min, obviously. kinda weird...
first off, i thought i saw pyze in the store and as i was determining if i was right or not is when she walked in the way.
secondly... they have to meet a certain standard if i am risking being pulled apart by there fathers... she didnt make the cut.

caRpetbomBer 09-28-08 02:11 PM

Im 5'11 the EAI bareknuckle at Urbane was a 54cm which looks way to small for me. Maybe a 56cm would fit better if the sizes are rather large.

shapelike 09-28-08 02:43 PM

I had EAI send me their geometry info on the BK ... maybe this'll help: http://flickr.com/photos/shapelike/2601595831/

exhibitx 09-28-08 06:03 PM

i think with the bareknuckle you usually size down one

58 is pretty big for 5'11" even without the bareknuckle size down

I've got the '05 version and I'm pleased with them.

shapelike 09-28-08 09:06 PM
