Aww yeah... the miele road bike was taken out for its first spin today. I will post pics in better light tomorrow, but needless to say, it weighs a freaking ton compared to my Cannondale CAAD9. I need to get a new chain sometime in the near future, because this frame has much longer stays than the frame which I used previously.

oh, in that case i would say do it for sure, especially if it's got older dura ace stuff which i think tends to be pretty cool.
Either way, all the components are in fantastic shape and I really hope that the frame is ok because she's a beaut! Word up. Matt |
pics or it didn't happen.

Picked it up today - word is that Mike Barry's son won it many years ago but it was too big for him... ended up in the hands of a then courier, now IT guy named Jason. Seemed nice and totally reasonable... It's in pretty good shape but I JUST spotted what might be bad news around the head tube - a little rust and possible crack but I don't want to jump to any conclusions until I clean it up a bit... there are also some sounds coming from the inside which sound like flakey bits, also a bad rust indicator that I definitely didn't hear while looking at it... ****, I hope I didn't buy a lemon!

If the frame seems overly rusty inside, you may want to run your finger along the underside of the chainstays. If you feel little bumps in the paint you may have a problem. I hope it's not the Jason I am thinking it is.
Jason Devreaux or something along those lines - sound familiar? Jason read the blog this morning and already emailed me to say that he was 100% unaware of any problems and I totally believe him. The flaking only happened after I rode it home, it didn't have that "salt and pepper" noise inside the frame when I checked it out at his place... all the rattling probably scared it up. If it's rusted out he'll give me my money back... Kergin - I posted up a few pics here. Enjoy! If everything turns out ok I'll hopefully build it up over the winter... |
Some of y'all might appreciate this little story;
On Saturday night some friends of mine and I are riding along College and a cab pulls over in front of us with 3 guys in the back. Knowing what was surely coming, I yelled 'door' as I rode past to let my friends know to watch out... I was looking back to make sure that no one gets hurt when I saw the most wonderful thing... Sure enough, the rear driver side door swung open as my friend's Sean & Robbie were about to pass but having seen it coming and with Robbie having nowhere to go Sean lifted his leg and kicked that ****er closed! The door hit the guy in the face knocking him back atop his friends... There was much rejoicing. |
tell your friend i'm so proud of him - i've been trying to complete that manouver for so long - i get lots of practice riding home along queen st on weekend nights...
|
Gold!
|
Haha, I'll let him know! It's such a solid move; equally as good (if not better) than the cab hailer high five.
|
i've thought of doing that too! although i've also really wanted to stop when someone's hailing a cab and ask "where to?"
how did he manage to kick the door shut while he was moving? did he slow down? |
Was he riding FG? That's some ballet indeed if he was.
|
I'm going to need some sort of Rescue 911 style re-enactment.
|
Yessir - riding fixed. Basically, the door was creeping open as he was approaching so he had begun to slow down and it had opened more completely as he rode past which gave him the opportunity to kick it back. Basically, the stars aligned perfectly and magic happened.

There's some nastier stuff that can also cause it, but it's far more likely you compressed the nerve somehow for a prolonged period. |

my co-worker tried to order a cheap bike off of there and even though they said they would ship to canada for extra via a quote, they wouldn't |
BikesDirect do not ship to Canada. You need to ship to the US using a US credit card. But if you can get one, they are good bikes.

<just puttin' this out there>
This Sunday there is a cyclocross race happening at Earl Bales Park in Toronto: http://maps.google.ca/maps?q=earl+ba...a&z=15&iwloc=A Your very own Cavernmech and I are racing at 10am, Briana & Christine from the City o' Toronto are racing at 11:30am and Mr. Somnambupants is racing at 1pm, provided his ****ed up leg is no longer ****ed up by then. Cyclocross is effing hard and we would appreciate your support/drunken heckling (it's totally appropriate to be drunk at 10am if you're cheering at a race, my mom said so). Please come out if you're up for it and be loud + rowdy. :) Also, if anyone is interested in taking part in the race, be there by 9am so you can register ($30 in advance, $35 day-of) and get a day permit ($5-$10). That'll also give you time to pre-ride the course and warm-up a bit before the 10am starting time. </just puttin' this out there> |

I've got the '05 version and I'm pleased with them.
I picked up a weird Concorde bike today. It is a tri setup but I think once I lose those wacky bars, it will be a nice bike. Everything is Shimano 600 except the cranks and derailleur, which are some really nice Campy bits, I just dunno which Campy group they are from. Does anyone have any ideas? http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j1.../Concorde3.jpg http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j1.../Concorde4.jpg http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j1...Ez/fb97_20.jpg http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j1.../Concorde1.jpg |

Cool, I have read good reviews but don't know anyone who has them....I think they are fairly rare as I think they fall into that weird category of a CX wheelset that roadies love, but I am not sure. I'd like to set them up with my 105 9-speed stuff and throw it all on my Ciocc.
