*blushes* well, i try! actually, just rotblotts is my idea: the safety glasses is brad's. i like to support locally owned business, and the owner (andrew) is really good to deal with. plus you get 10% discount if you pay with cash.

I'm not letting you off that easy buddy. Former or not, the jist is that you got's as much if not more Nerd per turd than us comsci/prepress/design geeks. You're an ENGINEER. all in fun Brad

TOP 20 ENGINEERS' TERMINOLOGIES
1. A NUMBER OF DIFFERENT APPROACHES ARE BEING TRIED - We are still pissing in the wind.
2. EXTENSIVE REPORT IS BEING PREPARED ON A FRESH APPROACH TO THE PROBLEM - We just hired three kids fresh out of college.
3. CLOSE PROJECT COORDINATION - We know who to blame.
4. MAJOR TECHNOLOGICAL BREAKTHROUGH - It works OK, but looks very hi-tech.
5. CUSTOMER SATISFACTION IS DELIVERED ASSURED - We are so far behind schedule the customer is happy to get it delivered.
6. PRELIMINARY OPERATIONAL TESTS WERE INCONCLUSIVE - The darn thing blew up when we threw the switch.
7. TEST RESULTS WERE EXTREMELY GRATIFYING - We are so surprised that the stupid thing works.
8. THE ENTIRE CONCEPT WILL HAVE TO BE ABANDONED - The only person who understood the thing quit.
9. IT IS IN THE PROCESS - It is so wrapped up in red tape that the situation is about hopeless.
10. WE WILL LOOK INTO IT - Forget it! We have enough problems for now.
11. PLEASE NOTE AND INITIAL - Let's spread the responsibility for the screw up.
12. GIVE US THE BENEFIT OF YOUR THINKING - We'll listen to what you have to say as long as it doesn't interfere with what we've already done.
13. GIVE US YOUR INTERPRETATION - I can't wait to hear this bull!
14. SEE ME or LET'S DISCUSS - Come into my office, I'm lonely.
15. ALL NEW - Parts not interchangeable with the previous design.
16. RUGGED - Too damn heavy to lift!
17. LIGHTWEIGHT - Lighter than RUGGED.
18. YEARS OF DEVELOPMENT - One finally worked.
19. ENERGY SAVING - Achieved when the power switch is off.
20. LOW MAINTENANCE - Impossible to fix if broken.

Flimflam 12-09-08 02:54 PM

Love that Pooj there TJ, I wonder what it's like to ride with a loaded sidecar - I assume it's person-sized, what's the supporting wheel? A 20" on a frame-attached axle?

TRaffic Jammer 12-09-08 02:57 PM

You know I cant; remember what size the wheel was, gorgeous from the 1930's.
Y to frame attached.

I_bRAD 12-09-08 03:04 PM

haha. stuff like that is a big part of why it's "former"

Also, that reminded me of this classic:

Damn it's the HD for my MacBookPro, so there will be no moving it over to a PC.
Sh*t and Bother, Apple Care to the rescue.... on my second drive, speaker on the right is blown. The case is warped somewhat as well but nothing I do for that. Heck even Windows will identify bad sectors. MACs have been typically lackluster in the drive maintenance arena.

Good God DOS? That simply won't do in this day and age. We like bikes BTW!!!

I just remembered: there is a diagnostic disk that came with your MBP, and it might just perform a surface scan of the drive. If you can't find it, I will burn you a copy of mine and ride it over to you. Let me know.

FWIW, the new MB and MBP with the CNC Alu body is much more rigid than the old MBP design. Case warping is why I returned several MBPs shortly after purchase.

oh yeah, Bikes.

If it's intel, just install bootcamp and install Windows then boot right into it. Otherwise, it's a bit harder.

elTwitcho 12-09-08 06:32 PM

Plastic bags served me hella good today as impromptu winter footwear, but it's totally time for something better.

Drivers have been surprisingly polite the past two days though, which is wild considering all my previous observations are that road hostility magnifies exponentially whenever the weather goes sucky. Three cheers for good providence :)

TRaffic Jammer 12-09-08 06:36 PM

^^ I find the driver's get more patient and resigned in an upperward arc proportional to the weather^^ hip hip hooray (that's one)
ah those Gaerne boots are serving me well

it's intel, I've got Parallels running but it's virtual.

hmm booting right into windows

somnambulant 12-09-08 07:42 PM

Andrew: for all your surface scan needs, if you have AppleCare: https://support.apple.com/techtooldeluxe/

If you don't, let me know, and I'll squirt a copy over to you.

TRaffic Jammer 12-09-08 07:57 PM

cool thanks I'l dll it tomorrow at the office with all the monster bandwidth I can handle.

the orange ones, not the winter ones

I have iro hubs for sale. 36 hole silver. Never laced to a rim. Needs the track nuts for the rear.

jeremywhitehorn 12-10-08 12:24 AM

how many of those do you have? i thought you sold them all in that group buy thingy...

jeremywhitehorn 12-10-08 12:26 AM

on a side note i am truly glad i decided to buy a pair of goretex lined winter boots for winter riding. i've never had dry feet while on a bike in this type of weather. to answer jet's question, yes it is dorky to ride in waterproof boots but it's so comfortable it worth it. plus if you have enough confidence, the dork factor can be perceived as ironic and thus cool. if you don't believe me look it up in vice magazine...

shapelike 12-10-08 06:22 AM

On that note, I will now research Gore-tex socks ...

Holy hell. It seems unconscionable that a street like Danforth would have been left unsalted knowing it would drop below zero after a night of rain, but there it is. Now I've got me a potentially bent brake lever and a sore neck to show for my optimism. Arg :crash:

**** really?! Wow... That surprises me, and now I read this I'm changing my route this morning... I usually ride to at least GO Danforth at Main when heading to Whitby, but I think I'll go to Union this morning... My street is always screwed, so it's naturally an icerink - I figured the majors would be fine, but apparently not :twitchy:

Was it black ice you hit.. or? Sucks to hear regardless. Hope your neck is OK.

I guess I'll leave extra early and just putter along.

TRaffic Jammer 12-10-08 08:23 AM

Holy S H I T ! every side street out there is a sheet of ice.
Not black ice but the rain left over from last night froze in the snap cold that hit in the early morning hours. No front brakes on the side streets gang!!!

I_bRAD 12-10-08 08:36 AM

sounds like a good day to be on studs! :p

re: gore tex and all that fancy mumbo jumbo on boots and socks. IMO, leather + sealant is better. Get some good mudflaps and you're even better.

Shackleton never had gore-tex, and he was a bad mother****er.

cupcrazy4 12-10-08 08:36 AM

a little off-topic... can anyone recommend any good, preferably road-oriented, LBSs around Yonge+Lawrence? I'm never lived east of High Park, and now I'm moving all the way to Yonge in a less than a week... I'll be so lost!

TRaffic Jammer 12-10-08 08:45 AM

Slowly, ever so slowly he's going over to the Dark Side... move east young man. D ooo it ....

Yea if your poppin around on side streets, being studly is a good thing today.

tuz 12-10-08 09:03 AM

Yup. Knowing it would be slippery I chickened out. I did bike 4k to my shuttle bus and the main roads were ok...
