Badass.
|
cue the tumbleweeds...................
|
Speaking of tumbleweeds, why is it that every time you try and pick up studded tires the dudes at the store tell you to just ride slower? If I ride slower AND use studded tires I'll be twice as likely to not be dead at the end of the day, no?
Anyway, I've got a front studded tire now ;) |
I've tumbled because of weed....
|
I don't get it.
Edit: oh wait. |
Winter camping is awesome! The high of the 3 days was -17. Did some ice climbing and also some stupid dangerious snowshoeing... Like my friend almost fell off a pretty decent high cliff
|
where did you go?
|
i was about to say where is everyone but suddenly there is a string of posts.
|
i need to get either a larger cog or a smaller chainring on my winter bike. this 46x16 is killing my legs...
|
Holy damn, studded tires are wicked. Got the front studded on tonight and took it for a spin on the street behind my house which doesn't seem to have ever been plowed and just had alot of time to get flattened by cars and refrozen and it grips like nobodies business.
Winter bike is finally officially done. Pics tomorrow :D |
I had visions of studded tires on my MTB to get to work soon. My wife called me at 5 tonight while I was still asleep (night shifts) to tell me she had been in a fender bender. Nothing serious, but it will require a trip to the body shop. I phoned in to take the night off and ended up losing it on my idiot supervisor who wanted me to go in anyway.
Last week, she blew out the sidewall of one of her snow tires on the 401, and all that was left was the beads of the tire stuck to the rim, and the tread section could be peeled off be hand. I disposed of all the remaining tires and put on a brand new set of Pirelli winter tires. My car has summer tires and is generally useless in winter with it's 300hp. Last night, Mastercard security called her regarding some transactions that were made recently. Not hers, it turns out. She rarely uses that card, but used it 2 days before the suspect transactions to get a membership to a large member-only discount store that begins with C and ends with ostco. It would appear that whoever entered her member info also thieved her cc info and subsequently used it. I've given up the thought of framebuilding for the time being due to a toilet flange leak in one of our bathrooms. The water took out the subfloor, so I have quite a bit of work to do and no time, due to work obligations. I own roughly $40k in tools, but no construction type tools. $2k in tools later (the Hilti dealer thanks me), I'm halfway into the joist reinforcement that is necessary to be able to tile reliably later. I do hope the rest of '09 improves. |
^^ :(
Evidently, Mavic wheels are indestructible - I just serviced my Aksium FH body last night, and while there was a little wear on the nylon washer, its not done yet... after 3+ years. Note: when you lube those parts, make sure to use light lube or mineral oil, because in this cold the heavy stuff will gunk up. |
I would hope you'd get 3 years out of even a cheap freehub body
|
Well, I guess you could call it a design flaw with Mavic hubs, but that nylon washer does wear out. My cassette has a little bit of movement right now, and when things really go south, I might replace it with a Campagnolo FH body.
|
My Concorde came with some nice Mavic Reflex rims laced to Shimano 600 hubs and they have been very resilient so far. I put them on my SS and I've been pretty tough on them and there has been nary a problem. The guy who rode them before was pretty big and I am not small either and the wheels are still true, I love them. I have never ridden Open Pros but these Reflex rims have sold me on the Mavic brand.

Went to killarney for a couple days, ended in building an igloo and doing some sketchy as hell snowshoeing. While dragging our gear in sleds we came up to some thin ice, where we moved in close to shore, I was leading and I heard this huge cracking sound and told everyone to get into shore, then my foot went through the ice, luckely I got my foot out of the way fastenough but the snowshoe got soaked and frozen... All in all an amazing trip

-20 tommorow. That's good...

from DSR group on facebook
Happy New Year all! With the new year we're going to be bringing you a new DSR. This year instead of concentrating on running a weekly event we will be focusing our efforts on a few larger events a year. This is not to say we won't show up on random Wednesdays for a ride or that you should stop showing up at Lake Devo on Wednesday nights, just that we will not always be able to be there. That said, I'm sure whoever does show up can take on the overwhelming responsibility of not having anything planned and make it up as they go along ;) The website will be going offline for a redesign and shortly relaunched with a new focus on covering Toronto bike culture as well as our own events to support the scene. And of course, it being 2009 and no new website can launch without a kick ass event to celebrate so keep your sched clear for the next evil calendar day. Keep the runner side down and stay off the ice. |
where is said group? PM?

Nice looking Viner on Kijiji; looks like a 56 and it appears to be in great shape for $300:
