Awesome, it's gonna be fun
I'm meeting an old work buddy somewhere at the event, though he maybe with a group doing 25 or 50k, if that's the case I'll just wait at the end for him, otherwise I'll invite him along if he's up for it. Kergin, what time is your start supposed to be? Anyone else coming along? Pyze, Rennick? |
i'd like to do 75k but the chances of me getting up at 5:30 and wanting to do 75k arn't good
will probably stick to 50k although i'd like to do 75k because i'd be more likely to take my cervelo out, there's too many shenanigans and 'hot doggin on a fixie' to do that on the 50k |
the other thing with the 75k is i think it's just an additional 25k loop, would be nice if it was a full 75k route

Well tapping the threads didn't work. Seems the b/b itself is screwed up. The fixed cup is off and the loose side was stuck on the b/b slightly crooked. When I fixed it and threaded it back in, well lets say when I gave a little presure on the crank it basically pulled the b/b right out of the frame. Now the shell is toast. Crap, crap, crap. Threadless b/b is the only option now I guess.

Who can cut the chamfers for the YST ones?

The option of cutting to Ital is an option but as most Ital Cartridge BB's are for a 70mm shell that would likely cause a problem. Loose bearing BB cups in Ital...68mm spindle. Wouldn't be that hard to make happen. |
Arg, this is killing me ... someone makes a (claimed?) decent quality press-fit BB that's designed for damaged shells. Phil Wood? I can't remember.

If you are feeling the 75k, let one of us know and we'll get something sorted out nearer the ride date (June 8th?). PS. Up to Mar 31st early reg. price of $35. |
So about that donut ride, how many km is it? What chance do i have with 66 gear inches?
|
Well I decided to try JB Weld, and ordered a YST threadless b/b as a backup plan. If all else fails I can take the bike in to Biseagal and have the threads replaced. From what I have read the b/b shells has to be chamfered as a 45 degree angle, same as the mavic ones. Hopefully the JB works and I can keep the YST as a backup that I wont ever need.
And of course when I tried to swap the parts to the fixed mtb I ****ed up the bearings in the headset. More money that I don't have. At least I have my rogueish charm and boyish looks. |

I sold my Mavic cutting kit to Jenna, she works with Bike Pirates as well as at the shop up on St. Clair and Vaughn. The Mavic cutter is a 45 but not sure if chamfering would help the YST...don't think it would.

how much can u spin? the guys on the donut get up to 30-45km/h easy. road bikes are a wonderful thing! I was running 76, 46/16 and the roadie that i know that had done it fixed, said that would prob be the perfect gear, as he was on 46/17 and found it a bit much. if you can hold a minimum of say 100rpm even on the climbs, you will still get dropped... unfortunately.. you can do diff routes to help out on the distance, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toronto_Donut_Ride i only made it to rutherford and keele and i lost sight of the peleton before turning onto keele @ hwy 7. But maybe if enough of us can get out, maybe we can break into our own slower pack. i know i wouldn't mind! |
Oh i can spin, 30km/h is no problem, 40+ is pushing it but we'll see. I am swtiching to 74 inches once i find a black 17t cog. However i guess the climbs will be no problem. If the weather is nice sunday i'm deinitely coming. It's alo good since i live up by hwy7 and pinevalley, so i will probably meet you at the start, and then just go home once we go up north.
So i guess we've got two fixed riders so far. |

So i guess we've got two fixed riders so far. im hoping to be in for this sunday as well! weather permitting. im a bit out of shape, so for 15mins at 90rpm, im kinda gasping.. i think its the rolling hills and cold morning air that eventually end up killing me. |
Well looking at the forecast it says 10C for sunday, which is not bad at all.
|
Well it seems (fingers crossed) that the JB Weld has done the trick. Went out this afternoon and it didn't budge, and the creaking is gone.
On another note riding out to Kipling and Bloor is a crappy boring ride. Coming back along the lake is much nicer. And my son seems to like dancing to Jimy Hendrix and Bob Marley, which means I can stop playing Raffi all the time. |
It's not SS specific but there is a push on to get a bike skills park downtown....help out and fill out the survey/support form. Never too much bike stuff!

Hell, last night I was a total wuss and got the train right to Exhibition, giving me a whopping 8k ride home - felt so damn cold yet I was wearing the same as what I wore in the -10 weeks ago... Damn perception/acclimatization? after doing half my full commute for Monday and Tuesday, I wussed it and reduced it again with the GO train for Wednesday and yesterday... Still, shows I'm getting a bit more stamina/endurance, but back to back I was certainly feeling it (167k Mon-Wed). I'm busy this and next weekend with my daughter, but after I should be back on alternate weekends so I'd love to get out with you guys, and I'll come for the donut ride when I am free, too. I might be riding to Haliburton on that first weekend in April, if I'm not, then I'll come do the donut. I'm going to try and lock down a weekend in the summer/warmer months and plan that fixed ride to Niagara Falls that I was intending on doing for the past 2 years. |
