I would just like to announce that I've had it with any of the following: media lockups, winter, cold, snow, sleet, ice, salt due to ice, FCP crashes, backend crashes, RAID rebuilds, federal budgets, federal elections, the PQ and BQ.

That is all.

I can cook you stuff that will make it feel like you're sh*tting lightning. After chili class today, and the final testing of 21 different bowls on Wednesday, that might be the way I spend Thursday.

XTR pfff. Deore thumbshifters are where its at. Oldskool baby.

What, no David Miller? I love the little despot.

I really need a Silvia to go with my Rocky </coffee nerd>

cavit8 03-19-07 07:37 PM

And I need a new heater gasket for my Europiccola. And it looks like I'll need to make it myself as I am getting heartily sick of dealing with Faema. But my Euro is now a nice fire engine red instead of the baby sh*t brown it was...

As per the earlier discussion, the secret to gaining weight is eating often. You can only eat so much at a time of course. Eat snacks between every meal and eat hearty meals of course. Try seeing if you can max out the recommended servings on Canada's food guide. If you want to gain healthy weight don't just eat fatty stuff. Just eat a lot of stuff (especially a LOT of grains and fruit/vegetables). Worked/is working for me so far man. If you workout while eating like that you WILL gain weight for sure. And you'll feel great and not full/****ty like some other methods of weight gain.

My Silvia will be celebrating her second birthday this summer - well worth the investment, but it was the start down a long road of coffee-nerddom. Have you tried roasting your own green beans in a popcorn maker?

I've never used a piston machine but it looks like the O-rings are standard sizes - this link may help you find what you're looking for without paying Faema prices.. just might need to be careful about temperature tolerance and food-safety: http://www.pavoniexpress.com/sealrepl.html

As if these posts didn't give it away, reading BF has taken over a much unhealthier obsession of mine with reading certain coffee related forums..

tovi 03-19-07 07:56 PM

so can I ask an amatuerish question?
how does this alleycat on Wed. work? Are there mock deliveries to make, a la regular courriering? Or is it just a point-to-point-to-point race? Just curious.

SamHouston 03-19-07 08:13 PM

Dunno, probably no one knows til they get there

Yep, but the heater gasket is not an o-ring but a flat gasket as my Euro is old enough to have the copper heating element. Prices aren't the issue with Faema, but their service. I have to "call back on Wednesday" to talk to their tech to see if they have the part. Which really means, I'll call back on every Wednesday for the next three weeks to talk to someone who knows which way is up. And I'll stop the story there...

Yep, pavoni express is in my bookmarks as is the lair of the chrome peacock amongst others. The nice thing about BFToronto is that it encompasses so many topics, all intrinsically linked to fixed gears, that I have nary a need to keep up on other forums :D

Speaking of which, should we have another scotch night before it gets warm enough to warrant a gin and tonic night?

That steerer tube looks strange protruding from the bottom of the fork crown. Has it always been like that?

How do folks normally deal with that? I actually don't have a lighting system for myself yet anyway, so that's something I'd like some advice about for myself at some point.

You can rent lighting systems on site at the 24hr races. If there are at least 3 guys wanting to buy I will do a one time group buy for you guys at cost plus 10% Let me know if you are interested.

Also, I should give a plug to my club, who does a learn-to-race weekly program (check out midweekclub.ca for more info). Aside from being affiliated with them, it is an excellent program (I can say so b/c I did it myself)

OK, PM me if you want to ride sometime.

Not looking to start a road vs mtb war. I have lots of respect for people who race road. I have raced, organized and managed teams, and volunteered in all the different disiplines of cycling. I can say in my experience that mtb racing is by far the most enjoyable of the bunch. Not only is the mood and attitude better but the events are much better organized as well. I dont mean to dump on road racing. If thats what you want to get into, all the power to you. But from a perspective of being a novice and just jumping in, mtb is friendlier. For anyone interested in road the Midweek Club is a great start. Good organization and a great resource for learning the ropes to get in a road race.
My shop was a co-sponsor of the Midweek team several years ago when Peter was still around.

On another topic. Went up to Milton with Bradyn last night to pick up his new bike. Spokes and Slopes. That place is a virtual museum of old bike stuff. The owner kept pulling all these old TI bottom brackets and White Industries wheelsets out of the dusty confines of the storeroom. If he ever had the time he could make a killing on E-Bay. Really nice old guy. I asked him if he sold any used bikes. He told me he had a few. In the end I found an old 80's Vitus road bike. Red anodized frame. Complete Suntour Superbe Pro Group except for 600 pedals and Campy cranks. Mavic rims and TTT bar and stem. It needs cleaning up but otherwise in great shape. I dont want to divulge exactly what I paid for it but suffice it to say I paid less than my last bottle of single malt scotch. SCORE!

Not yet. My home coffee making is being handled by a couple bialetti moka pots and a bodum french press. Roasting my own is probably a little overkill. Definitely something I'd like to try sometime, but laziness is also definitely a factor. :)

I've been to that place a few times. Never really talked to the owner, but I wish I asked about old bikes!!

Man nice score!

I bumped into mike/shapelike/eyefloater on the way to work today. It was pretty gay (no offense to gay people)

edit: keith, so you decided to man up and get one of the bottles of 1937 Glenfiddich at Hong Kong duty free on sale for $48,000 USD each? Must be a nice vitus!

somnambulant 03-20-07 08:33 AM

...you bumped into him and it was gay? Did you physically bump and just happen to violate him or something?

TRaffic Jammer 03-20-07 08:34 AM

I must get out there spinnin' to build up some endurance type muscles. I have an ancient base of mileage that helps me with handling and skills and such, but I definitely need to build up some legs and lungs for any type of racing. Looking forward to being on a 24 team, if one will have me.

He made a comment about my 'spin' and then we talked about the weather and how I was late for work. very gay!

Damn...what a deal! At that price I will take 2.
