Hehehe! How's it going in France anyways? I really want to make it out there for the Tour some time. I was in Spain during the Vuelta last year (for work), but missed the race by one day!! Funny enough though I bumped into Christian Vandevelde (Ex US Postal, current Liberty Segeuros rider) and ended up chatting with him for a good while...Turns out that the racers all stayed in my hotel the day BEFORE I was there! So I was SUPER bummed, but pretty stoked for getting to chat with Christian in a pretty relaxed setting.

I am really excited for the Tour this year...Hope you've got lots of room in your suitcase for souveigners! When do you head back to Toronto?

I am riding in a little 6.3km Time Trial this morning..Its rainy and wet, so I hope I don't pull a Jan Ulrich and slide all over the course

Enjoy your Royale with Cheese!

You know I don't know what my time was...although I know the dude who was ahead of me, beat me by 3seconds!

We did the time trial after a nice 40km warm up
We were absolute puddles by the end of the ride. Everyone was on fixies (it is a fixie group, so they only let fixies join up), but it was a tonne of fun. Once again I had the steepest gearing, which hurt a little on the ride UP the Bayview Extension, but would have helped on the flat time trial if I wasn't so tired already!

These guys ride together at least once a month or more, so if any of you guys wanna hop on your fixies and join in I will keep you in the loop.

Kinda hot today eh??

Well Heather and I are heading out for some chow! See you guys soon!
Rob

too freaking hot, that's for sure.

I completely forgot that it was a Toronto Fixed Gear thing.... I haven't visited they're site in a while. Sounds like fun... remember to hydrate thy self. I went for a short ride (40k) today and didn't drink enough, now I have the mother of all migrains....

It is like an armpit out there. Nasty. The smog has given me a sore throat too. I did the TBN 140km ride on Sunday, and I drank almost 8 liters of water from the time I got up in the morning until I finished, and still didn't have to piss the whole time. That's a couple of gallons of sweat.....mmmm.

I'm actually considering getting a respro. I had to brush my teeth after riding to work today. The air at Leslie and the 401 was a little chunky.... Hopefully the storm hits before I ride home or I'll need a ventilator.

something else i noticed too; after many re-applications of sunscreen that I still ended up completely burnt (arms, neck, legs) and filthly from all the dirt in the air as it stuck to my stinky, sweaty, oily skin... GROSS.

cavit8: are talking about one of those Micheal Jackson type face masks for filtering exhaust and other nastiness in the air?

I guess, I don't know of the MJ connection, though. You'd think he'd need something custom built as his facial structure is one unknown to evolution.

The masks are here:
https://www.respro.com/urbancommuting_cycling.php. The glow in the dark one would be cool with some electrician's tape to make it more skull like. MEC carries respro's as do LBS's (like Urbane).

Any idea if those things actually do anything? I can imagine it would be really uncomfortable, like wearing one of those hospital masks everyone had when all that SARS BS was floating around. Plus, it has to be hard to breathe through, right?

A guy I know who has mild asthma and rides with one on pollution days actually stopped wearing it during the SARS incident for public-perception reasons.

Rather than post a lot of info here, I'll refer to other threads on the topic.

https://www.bikeforums.net/commuting/73048-pollution-masks.html
https://www.bikeforums.net/commuting/38368-i-got-use-my-respro-today.html

I'll probably only use it for select parts of the ride. Part of the factor for me, despite luvin' my lungs is that filters should be replaced, on average, every 69 hours or so. Could get a little pricey. Or 6 months with the bandit model which is cheaper...

I was in the hopsital during the SARS inciden for a busted lung (no relation to SARS) at that time. It was a bit rediculous. The nurses made us wear masks in the ER, then after the second day all the patients took them off and only the nurses wore them. Didn't wear a mask until I got discharged 3 weeks later.

I should have enough $ for that, assuming nothing explodes on my bike.
