hey, "guy I met at CM on the IRO": I saw you today at Spadina & Front. You were right in front of me while I was waiting for the light to change going West on Front. I was going to beep, but I thought you'd probably think I was just some guy in a car with road rage. :)
ps. I assume you're on here, I can't remember if we talked about bikeforums or not.. :) |
Anyone know a place in downtown-ish Toronto that sells IROs? I hear they've got a new frame on the way and I'd like to take a look at it in person when it comes out.

Lotta attitude in Toronto bike shops, what can I say? I have experienced that at pretty much every downtown bike shop. I like Urbane, but even they give me attitude now and then with my ghetto rides------------I brought in a Shimano WH-535 wheel I found in a dumpster and they told me it wasn't worth fixing. I took it to Sporting Life and they trued it and gave me 3 new spokes for 15 bucks. Meh. Stick to big shops like Sporting Life, Dukes or CyclePath to avoid the elitist schlock or suck it up. |
Man, I was with you until the last three words of your post.

That left me with a sour impression and my money going to another shop.

I agree with you most of the shops give you attitude here in downtown. Dukes and Sportinglife included..But as far Cavern Cycles is concerned i dont think youll find a better shop..And Kieth is the most helpful guy in town...i m sure as he said it was one of the guys he hired that gave you the snub but ask anyone here on this forum . And everyone will say go to Kieth at Cavern Cycles for not only IRO but everything. I have bin bugging him for the last 2 months with questions for an IRO and fixed gear. And he has bin veyr straight forward and helpful . And he knows what hes talking about. So dont penalize the guy coz of someone he hired. It can happen to anyone.
|
See, this makes a lot more sense to me. I couldn't figure out how Cavern stayed in business if the guy that owned it was a prick to his customers. I don't even know who I talked to, but it was probably Mr. Long Gone. It's good to hear something back from the shop this quickly though - that's bonus points for class.

yeah, a couple of years ago, there was this guy working at Carvern Cycle, and boy he got some attitutde, I didn't go there any more for sometime, then I got a flat tire near sherbourne and Adelaide, and with such a luck, I didn't bring a spare tube with me and it was almost 5 or 6 P.M. and the guy was closing shop, he said he was closing shop and asked me what I need told him I need an inner tube and the guy gave an inner tube and told me to just pay the next day coz he was in a hurry, I was able to fix the flat and the next day I went back and pay the tube he gave me. He is not the same guy, who gave me the attitude a couple of years ago...

Anyone know where to get 3/16 grade 25 bearings similiar to the ones (well exactly) on Sheldon Browns site? He wants $50 min + $17 for shipping to canada even though the bearings themsleves are like 5 bucks.

Hey all. Just a quick note to all the Toronto members of Bikeforums. The Cavern Cycles-Sneaky Dees cycling club is hosting a party on Saturday October 1st. There will be refreshments, D.J.'s, fabulous door prizes and Fixed Gear Goldsprint indoor trainer races. The location is 201 Niagara Street. Doors open at 9. Hope to see you all there. K
|
Is it a B.O.Y.B. kind of party, and what is the Major intersection of Niagara street....
|
This is a licensed hall but refreshments will be very affordable. The location is just south of King Street.
|
totally interested, I'll stop by for sure.
