I've got a Messential. It's a bit big when empty, especially since I'm such a teeny person, but in the short time I've had it I've definitely been able to use all that room on several occasions.

TRaffic Jammer 05-11-06 02:09 PM

messential.... what a great name.

That's exactly how I feel about my Large TB2. Although it also fits like ass no matter how much is in it, and I think that's affecting my judgement on figuring how what size bag to order when I get around to buying something new.

TRaffic Jammer 05-11-06 02:22 PM

I got to figure out what brand of climbing bag I was given, I brought home 10kg of kitty litter, dog food, and some other stuff today. It was heavy, but I still had tons of room. The TB2, is that the big vertical roll over one?

darkmother 05-11-06 02:27 PM

I ran into an aquintance on a group MTB ride yesterday who thought I was Jeremy Whitehorn (I share the same first name). It was kind of surreal for me to think yeah, I know that guy....well not really.

TB2 = Timbuk2

I'm considering buying one of the Chrome waterproof backpacks next though, which is more of that style. http://www.chromebags.com/waterproofpacks.html

We should post pictures of ourselves to clear up the confusion. did he think you were me or did he think that jeremywhitehorn was your internet name?

that's a lot of boxes, i would think all that angular cargo would make any bag uncomfortable. what's the capacity on those? i'm wondering how it compares to my PAC bag, it's the smallest one they make but it is about 30L. from what i gather the UTW are longer and thinner than the PACs which are about as deep as they are wide (more of a square shape).

inspiration relating to our sprint talk recently:

http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=194584

possibly old news, but I rarely venture outside of this thread anymore. :)

operator 05-11-06 02:55 PM

The flyaway is 20L the messential is 30L. Conicidentally or not, the messential is 50% more than the flyaway.

The UTW bags come in cordura (shiznazs) or ballistic nylon (mine).

Same ......
I will go see someone about shoes this week-end, maybe. lol
I do not however have a fg/ss sprinter, but I'm down for whatever I can help with.
Gokiburi brought that link which proved to be gold baby GOLD for the flyer.

hm, i guess the 20L bag could get full fast. i guess the price increase is due to the extra-tough contruction and straps, etc. one of the things i like about my little UTW bag is it's simplicity: one strap, no zippers a couple of pockets. just simple for quick errands. maybe the larger bags have more bells and whistles, who knows...

isn't there some rule of thumb about packs that no matter what size pack you have you'll fill it?

Shiznaz 05-11-06 03:07 PM

I love the size of my flyaway. Its the perfect size to fit everything I need for the day, or even for overnight. That being said, its is on the small side, and I have a gigantic UTW heavy gear bag to cart around all the big stuff and get groceries. There is no one bag that can do it all for all situations, so thats why I have 2. I think I actually prefer the strap and buckle on the flyaway to theire more 'pro' bags, as the one on my heavy gear can really chafe the hell out of my neck if I'm not careful, and the metal buckle and loop can be unwieldy or even impossible to use if the bag is over or understuffed.

Bikeforums has not been resolving well at all on my computer and I've only really been able to use it on and off for the past few days. That and I'm avoiding you.

Not sure if he knows you through this site or somewhere else online. He told me he had picked up Curt Harnett's track bike from the early 80's-a Gardin IIRC. I think he just assumed I was you, because he knows my name is Jeremy and I ride a fixie.

Shiznaz 05-11-06 03:16 PM

I'm almost certain I have made the same mistake before.

STEEKER 05-11-06 03:20 PM

hahaha.. awesome, there's an electro pool party happening tomorrow night at the Trinity-Bellwoods community centre:

What a wonderful idea. I can picture people doing the robot in the pool already. :D I'm tempted to go just to watch the hilarity of people swimming at a concert.

STEEKER 05-11-06 03:29 PM
