Ill Mitch 06-07-06 05:10 PM

who else is coming out for CV besides Operator?

I might be able to make it but I'm not sure

STEEKER 06-07-06 05:12 PM

I might go but I am tired from riding downtown what time is it and this is a wicked bike http://www.fixedgeargallery.com/2006...thanSidoli.htm

gboy 06-07-06 05:32 PM

I can't come, I already biked back home (left at 4 something, got back 7 something; I was posting from my friend's apt earlier today on Elm) to beat the rushhour traffic. Man, you guys are right (suburban drivers are the worst): an suv full of teens driven by a teenage girl could not decide whether to tailgate or pass me on 16th Ave just west of Warden Ave in Markham (if you don't feel safe passing me in the same lane why don't you use the adjacent lane? and if you don't know the limitations of your vehicle you shouldn't be driving); and then a someone yelled out a minivan on Warden Ave just south of Stoufville Rd(wtf?). Oh, I saw an Asian guy (who at first I thought was operator, but then I realized I think I saw him on the FFL ride), biking southbound on Yonge near St Clair.

This Pollen is making my EYES ITCH!

It's too late to respond to those posts that sparked a thought, so I'm just posting for no reason at all. That is all.

STEEKER 06-07-06 05:59 PM

Well, it was dirt cheap and I needed a cylcing cap. Red Aqua e Sapone. Fits better than my black synchros

STEEKER 06-07-06 06:40 PM

can you repaint a bike helmet without effecting the safety properties?

32flavours 06-07-06 07:15 PM

Did anyone go meet up to ride? I had another kitten false alarm. DAMMIT! They'll probably all become strays and I will be forever alone.

Perhaps I'm wrong here, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say that has 0% to do with being able to develop on new land and 100% due to the fact that yuppies want lofts. :)

Sorry about that! I waited for you on Bloor a block or so away from where you got stuck at that red light, then just before it turned green I got impatient and started riding again and you got the next red too. I gave up on waiting and decided I'd try and catch up with the others. I thought I could catch up quickly and get everyone to hold up, but I didn't full catch the pack again until basically Broadview and by then I assumed you were a zillion miles away. Plus you knew where we were going.. :)

Moral of the story: post more often.

Anybody want to ride now? Slow and sadly, because I am mourning my failure to grab those kittens. Sniff.

Sure, but I'd remove the hardshell and paint it seperate like, buncha paints will melt styrofoam, and the hardshells are often kept on only by a thin strip of tape round the rim, easy to remove and put back on, no gaurantee on any advice past present or future, all warranties voided, etc etc I almost never follow my own advice and highly recommend skepticism of all sounds in my immediate vicinity.

can't bedtime, you catching stray kittens? That's awesome

somnambulant 06-07-06 07:23 PM

speaking of helmets.. Every now and then I see someone (or perhaps more than one person) riding in one of those Specialized helmets that didn't have the hard shell. What were they called? The sub-six or something? I remember seeing ads for those things like 12-13 years ago. Have they made them recently? Or is this guy wearing something that probably has all the cushioning of a bag of eggshells? (helmets DO have a life span, crash or no crash)

32flavours 06-07-06 07:25 PM

Yeah, me and my neighbour feed the neighbourhood strays, and our favourite one had kittens about 2.5 months ago. Since they've been weaned we've been trying to catch them... we finally found their hiding place but they freaked out today when we tried to grab them. Will attempt again. So cute, but skittish.

Re: painting the helmet, I don't think you can remove the hardshell on most modern helmets, since the foam is moulded right into the shell to better prevent the shell coming off in a crash and letting the foam catch on stuff.

sr20det 06-07-06 07:40 PM

i've always wanted a pet, but my parents never let me. :(
I don't know about painting helmets. but I would stay away from spraypaints cause they eat away at plastic.

you're brave; i wouldn't pick a fight with a stray cat. we found a stray kitten in our shed last summer and we were feeding it for weeks before it dissapeared (re: probaby died). got to get them young or else they become feral, and scrappy to boot.

got my letter from chef school today about orientation week, tying to get me "used to the college life"; i'm feeling a bit like rodney dangerfield in "back to school".

anyone do CV? my plans fell through, i could have gone after all, crap.

STEEKER 06-07-06 08:41 PM

Did you get the black synchros from urbane as i did? It never fit quite right after i left the store!

fixedude 06-07-06 08:48 PM

minor update: i wonder how the cyclist being a cop will affect the investigation? as the cyclist was also an 18-year vet (and `one of their own`), i cannot imagine they could easily argue, e.g., not knowing road rules, etc.

Cyclist killed by truck was OPP officer
Jun. 7, 2006. 05:13 PM
BOB MITCHELL
STAFF REPORTER

An OPP officer has died after a cycling accident on Tremaine Rd. near Derry Rd. in Milton.
Sgt Gregory Stobbart, 45, an 18-year veteran of the force, was critcally injured yesterday in collision with a dump trunk.

He and his family had just recently moved to Burlington after being transferred to the Caledon detachment from Killaloe Detachment on May 23.

The fatality continues to be probed by Halton's traffic bureau and anybody with information is asked to contact them at 905-825-4777 or 905-634-1831 ext 5123 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Tremain Rd. had been closed to traffic for most yesterday but re-opened around 5p.m.

Halton Police said Stobbart succumbed to his injuries at about 9:30 p.m at Hamilton General Hospital.

Police said the collision occurred when Stobbart was cycling and the dump trunk was travelling north on Tremaine Rd. at about 12:30 p.m.

Initial investigation revealed the right side mirror of the five-ton truck struck the officer as the vehicle was overtaking him.

The truck driver from Grimsby wasn't injured.

Me, operator, lymbzero, and some other new guys were waiting for you at 8pm to 9pm behind Honest Ed's. There was no sight of you or any others. So we basically rode around chinatown, bumped into Ill Mitch and rode through Kensington, and then to Dundas Square for some trackstand chillin'...

I don't have anyone's cell number... ;)

32flavours 06-07-06 09:42 PM

Fools! I said to PM me YOUR number. Ah well, next time.

operator 06-07-06 09:46 PM

I move for the immediate dismissal of 32flavours as ride organizer

Vote operator ftw!!

operator 06-07-06 09:48 PM

Wtf isn't this sr20's bike? http://toronto.craigslist.org/bik/169197897.html

cavit8 06-07-06 09:55 PM

yep, t'is. I guess he got tired of trying to trade it.

That sucks about the cyclist and the dump truck. Cop or not, he was a brother. The driver will likely get charged under the highway traffic act and get off with a fine. I'm getting really ill about all the fatalities this year. Is it me or has there been a hell of a lot more this year than years previous?

operator 06-07-06 10:00 PM

The truck driver from Grimsby wasn't injured.
What a useless addendum. Of course he wasn't.
