thanks for the more-ree-all tips.. you singlehandedly gave us the best menu (st.viateur bagels with smoked salmon and cream cheese) at the mutek picnic on jean drapeau island.
we were stuffing our faces while people stared longingly..HAHAHAHAA. great food, great tunes (richie hawtin with ricardo villalobos spun for 5 hours!!!). 2 days/nights of non-stop partying=amazing weekend. it was pretty much rush-rush and we didn't get to sample too much montreal food. i wanted my steames!!! i forgot how great a city montreal is. there are still large pockets of ungentrified neighbourhoods downtown..unlike toronto. the whole places feels more lively too.. maybe it's wine and beer in 24hr supermarkets.
one ironic thing: traffic was brutal on sunday for some reason.. a lot of streets were closed off downtown for get this: a tour de montreal ride!!! we were helplessly stuck in traffic before deciding to take the metro down! saw 3 fixies blur by the hotel. a lot of fixed riding in montreal tj? i also forgot how goddammed hilly the montreal is. what gear did you ride in when you messed? yikes. oh yeah, i had to cancel ride-for-heart because i couldn't get back in time (got back at 4am this morning). i have some angry people to answer too...
side note: my buddy got a speeding ticket..he was doing 150!keith, sorry, but i don't think i'll have time to drop with your 50 tallboy for the CV ride. it's one big bottle..my girlfriend thought it was ***in olive oil!! crazy montrealers.......

Glad it was a good time. Tour De l'ile...good god what a time to be there. The single largest cycling event in the world is that thing.(in the book of records no less) as upwards of 80,000 bikers go for a jaunt around the island. I swear the island tips when they all get to one side.
As for gearing I rode with a bmx freewheel in the back, 14 I think.... dang lotta years ago. I want to say 46-14.....48?... I climbed pretty well so maybe 46, but I could sprint 50k+ish on flats. There were a couple fixed riders back then messin' , settin the wayback machine Mr Peabody. It's been sooo many years since I've ridden MTL and climbed from Old Montreal up to the hospitals...... you made me miss it... Thank you.
