i can usually be found between parkdale to riverdale, and sometimes in johnny`s backyard on parliament with a latte and funny cigarette. :D look for the grey steamroller with white rubinos and saddle, and come say "hi".

also, i never had problems riding clipless and messing for a few years, winters included, but i am interested in trying clips/straps simply for wanting to ride without specific shoes. most recently, i raced kyotoloco2005 without problems and placed 8th.

hey fd, genki desu, thank you. actually, i'm leaving on sunday (25th!) so maybe i can join you at jetfuel. or we could bring a 6pack over and bug keith. i live right at king/parliament (mill street actually). funny thing: erik zo asked me to say hi to johnny at jetfuel. so i went over but it must've been closing time because no one was there and there was just one young dude behind the counter. i picked up a bag of jetfuel espresso to send to EZ. this morning, i got a bag of beans in the mail from him! he's a pretty funny guy.
i totally can't wait to get outta here and start my vacation.. tanoshikata...

Shiznaz 12-21-05 11:51 AM

I emailed Marcel Mullholland about the 58cm cyclops track frame he has and he says its still available. I voiced my sincere interest in the frame and I'm just waiting for him to give me the top tube length and geometry. Looks like I might just be selling my spicer! I gotta say though, I don't really know why I decided to buy an AL frame in the first place... Lets hope some unscrupulous individual does not snatch it from my fingertips before I get the chance to pick it up!

hey shiz, your spicer's the epitome of high-tech stealth-bomber.. maybe i'm exagerrating but you don't have an ounce of steel on that thing. ok, maybe spoke nipples. the old-school welcomes you back though.

Shiznaz 12-21-05 12:15 PM

I'm pretty sure most of the bolts are steel, as well as the bearing and spokes, but as far as actual components go... pretty much just the chain... Oh, I've got a pair of steel eggbeaters on them. But thats it... Its a great bike to ride through a massive electromagnetic tunnel.

operator 12-21-05 01:29 PM

Don't do it Shiznaz! AL = Rust proof.

Shiznaz 12-21-05 01:47 PM

but steel = real. I never even take my spicer out in the rain anyways, thats what my steel fuji is for, and its been holding up like a pro for 30 years of continuous use (only 4 of which have been me).

wasted weasel 12-21-05 02:50 PM

hmmm.........what size is your Spicer frame agian??

Shiznaz 12-21-05 04:07 PM

fiddyeight

eyefloater 12-21-05 04:57 PM

**** man, how tall are you? Like ... 7'34"

Shiznaz 12-21-05 05:04 PM

haha, I'm only 6'2", you should see my brother!

wasted weasel 12-21-05 05:30 PM

58 is nice...... how much would you sell the spicer for??
complete or parting it out?

operator 12-21-05 06:43 PM

Shiznaz is a giant

Someone should get a pair of these:

sr20det 12-21-05 06:50 PM

holy mother.
carbon fibre everything.
and the spoke count is like... 12.
btw, is it true that carbon fibre road bike frames and such only last for a year or two of normal use?

wasted weasel 12-21-05 08:50 PM

nah, the way carbon fiber construction has advanced in the last 10 years it's pretty bomb proof stuff and will last a decade for sure.
An example; I've been riding dirtbikes (that can weight 400lb or more loaded) for 7 years now and there are all sorts of structual and protective parts bolted on modern motorcycles, engine guards, frame & fork guards. The exhaust canister on my current bike is carbon so it takes heat as well as me crashing into the rocks on it.
That being said I still have this fear that bicycle designers are not using enough carbon fiber in frame components (like forks and seat stays) for the sake of trying to keep the weight down.

How much would it suck to watch your front wheel fold backwards down under your chainrings while you get ready to eat asphault at 45km/h going down a hill?

sr20det 12-21-05 08:57 PM

ohh... motorcycle :)
is your fixed or singlespeed?

kidding.

yea, I really want to go for my M1 this summer.

eyefloater 12-22-05 01:37 PM

Shiznaz, is your Spicer off the peg or custom?

gokiburi 12-22-05 02:25 PM

some interesting bits about frame-saver alternatives in this thread:

This has probably been talked about in this thread already, but is there any place in and around T.O. that does a cheep quaity paint job for lugged frames? I'm looking to get an already sand blasted frame done in two-tone with black tubes and white lugs.

this was posted by jet-sanchez awhile back:

Anywho, I PM'd cavit8 with info regarding powder-coating a bike in Toronto. He mentioned this thread and that maybe some of you guys would like to have the same information, so here it is:

Spectrum Powder Coaters
416-622-4595
63 Medulla Avenue,
Etobicoke, ON
M8Z 5L6

These guys are great and friendly and, most importantly, cheap. I got the Ciocc powder-coated with a custom colour for 60$ and the Miele powder-coated black for 25$----they just threw it in with some patio chairs, meaning it wasn't a custom set-up. That is a pretty good deal, especially considering that it won't chip, which is the whole reason I had to get the Ciocc done in the first place, that notoriously lousy Italian paint. I hope someone can use this information, let me know when you guys next plan to hook up for a ride. Later.

i did a search for "powder coat" in this forum and found about 4 articles with an exact match but i think there are a bunch of relevant posts without the keywords.

Sirrobinofcoxly 12-22-05 03:51 PM

Thanks gokiburi. I think i'll check out these guys when my frame arrives.

How the eff to I get to Spectrum using transit ...

hahaah... i was checking out direction on google maps and holy sheep sheeit. yup, it's in the middle of butt*** nowhere. it's not too far from kipling station though i think.

Shiznaz 12-22-05 04:56 PM

When I was your age, I had to trek fifteen miles in the snow, uphill, to get my frame custom powedercoated. You kids have it easy!

PS. My frame is just standard, and I assume it was put together by indentured labour in Taiwan. But lets not jump the gun here and get you hopes up; I'll see if I get this new frame first!

gokiburi 12-22-05 04:59 PM

It is just off of North Queen, near Kipling. Yeah, kinda tough to get to, it is an industrial complex area, but there is a bus that runs along North Queen. I guess you could hook up with that bus from Kipling station, I am not too sure. Where are you coming from?

eyefloater 12-22-05 06:06 PM

Kensington Market.

No worries, I'm the height of a normal human (ie. 5'10") ... I was just curious because Gene keeps showing up at my apartment during the night and whispering sweet nothings in my ear about his frames. Either that or I'm having really disturbing dreams.

Shiznaz 12-22-05 06:43 PM

Gene's frames are nice, but theyre nothing that special, or at least his standard frames are; I can't say anything about his custom work. I can say that their best point is not beauty though, and his welds tend to be thick and nasty, but at least they should be strong. I don't think he works with lugs though if thats your thing. I still have to reccomend him though because he really is a super guy that works crazy hours to make even one time customers really happy.

wasted weasel 12-22-05 06:51 PM

yeah, but i've always liked the way the Spicer seat and chain stays curved around the rear wheel...and the massive size of the rear dropouts. I'm sure it's total asthetics and not anymore functional than if they were straight...but still those frames look damn cool.

if you were selling I'd hope you'd give us 6' 1" tall guys the heads up first :D
