hey eyefloater, you didn't buy that eddy merckx frame did you?
and is Gene the spicer cycles owner?

shiznaz, can you send me a link to pictures of your spicer?
I remember seeing some pictures but I can't find em anymore.

eyefloater 12-22-05 07:02 PM

www.spicercycles.com

I emailed the guy about the Merckx, but he already had people coming over to pay for it.

Gene on his fork ends:

The ti inserts are made so the inside of the hub rest on the ti to avoid alum frame wear. To have enough ti material to bolt above and below that surface area to connect to the frame the ti has to extend or be exposed the dianmeter of that lock nut (last hub nut that is almost 20 mm in diameter) area. Some hubs are even wider there like small flange dura ace and surly. The locknuts on those hubs can be replace and they are so thick a spacer is need to if I recall. So it is a matter of getting those 4 holding screws of the ti insert away fron the center lock nut diameter to tie into the alum frame. I have thought about it and have not come up with a better idea. Not one has failed or worn out so I may leave well enough alone. They look big but weigh so very little. There is a lip on them that catches in the frame and the outside ti area cover the frame from any damage from the axle nut.

? A Merckx on CL?

eyefloater 12-22-05 10:06 PM

San Francisco CL ... a whole other world. Not like the "1 fixed gear or singlespeed item / 4 months" we see here.

Of course! :D

My frame doesn't have the ti inserts, and you can definitely see evidence of the track nuts biting into the aluminum. Luckily they are super fat and overbuilt so I don't think it would ever become a problem.

Also to see my bike look at my sig

On a side note if your using a i-pod or not just d/l i-tunes i did a search in the podcasts section a bit ago & found some neat stuff one called bikescape & bike talk a bit different. Thought I’d pass it on.
Cheers

Hey guys, I know it isn't exactly PC, but have a safe and happy Christmas holiday :)

Sirrobinofcoxly 12-27-05 02:03 PM

I leave for 4 days, and the thread falls to page 2. Oh what a world! :D

wasted weasel 12-27-05 05:51 PM

spent that last 5 days up north at my parents place... 3 feet of snow in 2 days, then come back to the city to see the green grass in my back yard. awesome!

anybody get any good bike(fixie) related christmas gifts?
I got money..(which of course will be used for something bike related).

eyefloater 12-27-05 05:58 PM

Formula hubs ... two bike books, tools.

somnambulant 12-27-05 06:16 PM

hey guys.. did you hear there was another cyclist fatality a week ago? scary ****. There's actually a candle-light vigil tonight.

I'm in Halifax airport right now waiting for a flight back from Newfoundland. Boo to flying.. yay to free wireless and a powerbook. :P

I fell down in a not-nearly-drunk-enough stupor last week though and hurt my ribs.. not sure if I'll be riding for a little while. I'll have to see what it feels like when I get back. :(

eyefloater 12-27-05 06:27 PM

No, I hadn't heard - where'd it happen?

Link? It's not too surprising given the weather, stuff melting and freezing creating patches of ice that just kill your traction. Kind of dicey out there right now.

sr20det 12-27-05 07:45 PM

that public shooting at younge and bloor is scarry shiz!

boo urns- I just received that GT frame I got from ebay and it has a dent in the top tube :(

eyefloater 12-27-05 07:54 PM

Say what? Do you still have a link to the original eBay auction? I'd get in contact w/ raygunner if that wasn't mentioned before.

Whoa... refund!

sr20det 12-27-05 09:14 PM

eyefloater 12-27-05 09:29 PM

That says it has no dings. Get your refund on if you're not happy with it.

sr20det 12-27-05 09:33 PM

is it good etiquette to request for refund?
He was quite pleaseant to deal with (althought it took nearly a MONTH to get it here)
and if I do get a refund, don't I loose out in money?
Paypal transfer fees, shipping back fees etc. ?

Are there other options?
ask for money reinbursement, ask for favors (chicago = yojimbo's)

Well, you definetely have to investigate the ding...maybe the seller didn't send it out with the ding and it occurred during shipping and you would then file an insurance claim. If someone is pleasant to deal with before you buy the item then they should be just as pleasant if there is a problem, which there clearly is. Take a photo and email it to them and see what their response is.

I wouldn't pay for any shipping if the seller knows about the ding. In fact, I wouldn't put any more money forward at all if the seller knew about the ding and I would expect a full refund. Go through eBay/Paypal if the seller is not upfront about the problem, they come down hard on fraudulent sellers (if that is the case here).

Chicago may have some good bike stores but Toronto has at least two excellent bike stores, Urbane and The Cavern, both of which are probably just as cheap, if not cheaper, if you factor in the dollar exchange and the shipping. I really doubt that there is anything you can get at Yojimbo's that you couldn't get or order from those two stores.

Lastly, act fast! Do all of this today; the auction ended a month ago, you have to move on this now.

sr20det 12-28-05 09:48 AM

thanks.
and urbane and cavern are def. super stores :)
Yea, I'm going to be hauling ass today to get some of my hard earned cash back! grr.

somnambulant 12-29-05 02:08 PM

I have an anniversary coming up.. any of you guys have any recommendations for a good veggie-friendly restaurant? Something more upscale than your average place since it's for an anniversary.. :P

The only place that immediately comes to my mind is Fressen, but we've both been there quite a few times. I'd like to go someplace new!

eyefloater 12-29-05 02:20 PM

I have no idea, but the kids at Now might:

http://www.now4food.com/vegout/2005/

somnambulant 12-29-05 02:27 PM

Yeah, none of those places are particular "fancy anniversary meal" worthy other than Fressen though I don't think. That's why I'm looking more for veggie-friendly instead of strictly veggie... plus she's the full-time vegetarian, not me. :D

I actually don't think I have seen that arcticle before though, thanks for the linkski!

I'll have to do some research on The Internets this evening.

eyefloater 12-29-05 02:52 PM

Some of the places on that list aren't vegetarian-only. Cafe 668 for example got a stupidly high review and they serve everything.

Okay, back-up plan: just take her to Canoe and forfeit a month's paycheque. ;)

wasted weasel 12-29-05 02:52 PM

Canoe, 54th floor of the east TD center tower on wellington street... did the whole girlfriend fancy dinner thing there last year. I'm not too sure that I recal the menu being veggie-friendly or not.
I admit the reason we partially decided to go there was because of the Yukon Caribou steak being the first item on the menu, and a window seat on the 54th floor of a tower is almost as good as eating in the CN without the rotating.......it was about a $175 meal plus cocktails for the 2 of us. Keep in mind this was a proper 3 course meal with desert and wine.

edit: eyefloater totally just beat me to it

eyefloater 12-29-05 02:53 PM

... stop stealing my brain thoughts!

wasted weasel 12-29-05 03:01 PM

Burrito Boyz.... that's the shiz for anniversary's....

eyefloater 12-29-05 03:37 PM

Well, hello new frame:

http://thehubbikecoop.org/merchant/7...large/pake.jpg

http://thehubbikecoop.org/site/itemd...t=3rdcharacter

I just picked up the last 55cm in stock. She'll be a fine ride on the streets of Toronto this spring (and hopefully even this winter if I can get the cash together for all the parts).
