Sweet bike. I just finished building a bike. If i went home and said hey dear i found a new frame to build up i would be living in a van down by the river. Ha Ha(no joke)Ha

The high park cycle place i need to check it out no matter the owners attitude one of these days soon.
Cheers

if you're selling the ciocc, let me know. a guy i ride with is looking for a 50cm frame.

As for high park cycles. yeah, the guy has a veritable museum of parts and frames up in his rafters but good god he can be difficult to deal with. on a good day he's a nice and will take trades and stuff but if he's in a bad mood he can be a surly old coot. if you're looking to trade in old parts / frames i'd say sell them on ebay or craigslist because he won't give you any sort of reasonable deal. his frames seem expensive to me, but then again they are pretty high-end.
personally, i've found his frustrating to deal with (he built me a wheel that kept popping spokes) and so i don't go there anymore but you never know, he might have changes his ways.
you'd probably get a better deal (and service) at cavern.

Sweet goddamn... glad you're alllright! No doubt she's going to make a claim - no way for the cops to track the hit-and-run through her insurance claim based on her car model? Someone needs to take that idiot off of the road.

Heh - detached Honda badges... In 2000 me and some friends were on the way back from the Montreal jazz fest in the summer, and the driver, a guy we worked with who had one arm, fell asleep at the wheel and put us into the ditch in Kingston going about 130km/h... car flipped and flew about 30 metres upside-down, and then promptly caught on fire a few seconds after we got out of it.

I've still got the (H) badge from the hood of the Civic we were in at the time... it's my lucky charm in a way, because we all should have been fried pulp. Hold on to that thing!

sr20det 03-16-06 09:57 AM

ventolin... dude, you are f-ing insane.
its too large to keep in my pocket/wallet all day haha.

Agreed - I got the impression that dealing with him is subject to his moodiness on a given day. Problem is, I'd like to get a frame of equivalent quality and italian-ness ;) There's something about an Italian bike built in SLX that makes it difficult to replace with anything other than an equally pretty Italian bike in SLX, and I imagine that Mr. Grumpy's got loads of 'em. I also have no idea how to price this thing - I've seen'em go built up with campy record stuff for up to $1200 on ebay, but I wouldn't begin to know how to price it as a frame and fork - another factor that inclines me to try to work a straight trade for something equivalent that fits. Wishful thinging maybe :(

Ahhh... Johnny Buoco. He has been around forever. He has some really sweet stuff in there but I too find it over priced. On top of that the guy is a pain in the arse to deal with. A few years back I was poking around in there and saw a 70'sish chrome track bike hanging up. It was a french bike I think. A decent frame....nothing special...Maillard hubs...Stronglight cranks. He wanted $1000! for it. I laughed my way out the door. As I was walking out I witnessed him charge a lady and her child $10 to put air in the kids tires. Some are of the opinion it is some kind of Mafia front as he never seems to want to sell anything.

Heh - yeah, when I was in there he was quoting me a price in the $800-$900 for a used but decent rossin track frame & fork, which seemed a bit steep.

He definitely didn't seem like selling stuff was a big priority, and I couldn't really gauge if it was because he just likes his bikes and can't bear to part with them, or if he's just unable to charge anything but the going price in the 80s. Which is kind-of why I was wondering if he'd keen-up to a trade, and if he'd give me good value for my frame, or just try to fleece me.

P.S. Cavernmech - you built that yellow wheel on the Ciocc for me, and It's the best wheel I've ever owned... absolutely atom-bomb-proof. I learned to build wheels after that, and it's been my reference wheel for figuring out spoke tension since I can't afford a tensiometer.... *pluck.... RIIIIINGGGGG* :D

If it's got the little white birdie on it, I'd say it's good enough ;)

I'm actually afraid of squarshing it with my fat desk-jockey arse. I had a wipeout on my other bike, a Ciocc-built Concorde that's also in SLX, and I managed to f*ck the fork alignment a bit and had to have Malcolm at biseagal get it running straight again. I've been thinking about getting a new fork built up in Columbus Max, just to offset some of the paranoia...

there's no way he'd give you a straight trade for it. from what i remember he usually offer 50% (or less) of what he can sell the item for, so you'd most likely end up losing money. start the bidding low on ebay and see who bites. i'd bet that market value would work itself out.

i just thought of another option for you: if you're in the junction neighbourhood, keep riding along annette street towards high park ave. there is a guy on the south side there that has the outside of his house lined (and i mean piled deep) with used frames, parts, etc. he's usually out there on spring summer evenings trading with the neighbourhood kids; i've cruised by and seen some half decent frames there. can't hurt to have a look, if for nothing more than the joy of scrounging.

yeah, i'd say so! la bicicletta sells those new for 1/3 that price...

jeremywhitehorn 03-16-06 11:39 AM

i noticed that urbane just got in some sweet marinoni laminated toe straps with the buckle pads and all (like the old campy ones). makes me want to switch to clips and straps just to use those babies. it's payday, someone talk me out of buying them (i just bought a new ti seatpost yesterday!).

I got bored and called them up. $750 for a new Rossin track frameset. Forgot the colors, something like Black/yellow & dark blue/yellow. and they couldn't tell me what tubing it was. oh well.

christ on a pogo stick... this thing ain't half bad either.... http://www.labicicletta.com/edatcat/...no=US-ROSSIN11

although... black and yellow you say? That'd go REAL nice with my wheel...

sr20det: glad to hear you're ok. i thought you were hurt on your bike at first! that's pretty ***ed that the woman tried to drive away while air-bagged. nail her on that. feeling any worse this morning?

holy crap.. what the hell's with this honda badge thing. years ago, i was riding my d-back mtb when a driver decides to suddenly brake to make a last second turn. i slam on my brakes and in turn, slam into the back of his hatch back. the car? a honda accord wagon. the guy doesn't even bother to get out and see what happened and just drives away, leaving his dislodged honda badge on the ground. i still have it.

yeah, keith makes great wheels. but don't let him store any for you.

just to add to that - there is a guy in the east end too (jones and dundas area) who does the exact same thing. He doesn't speak english but has a ton of bike stuff and is always sitting out in front of his house with a couple of wrenches in his hands and a bike pump most days durring the summer. I love scrounging... possibly more than I love looking at new stuff.

we should do a bike shop tour some weekend... then end up a sneaky dees and eat dirty wings for cheap. (btw this weekend is out for me...24hour toronto film challenge)

Damn sr20det glad to hear you're ok. Definately keep the badge as a talisman of power.

Cramerotti update:
After an hour of banging with various sized shims and screw drivers I've almost cut through the shortest edge of the now identified alum seatpost leftovers. Buddy from a few doors down pulls up and offers his reciprical (sp?) saw. Could be scary...me and power tools. I keep looking at the internal wiring holes and think hmmmm braided steel cable housing.

Ventolin: how tall are you that the 50 was too small?
DAMN eyefloater showed me the Lemond cross in steel, I like it.

I'm about 5'8" - 5'9" depending on the day. When I first got the frame I was (and still am) in love with it, but had to mess around for ages to get a good setup - initially I couldn't get the stock laprade up high enough without contravening the min insertion mark, and had to replace the post with that easton one that's on there. Then I felt pretty imbalanced, and ended up sending the seat way out back, and sticking a longer stem and those profile horns on it. Worked out ok for a while, but after building up my concorde, and figuring out what a bike that fits feels like... There's something nice about having bars at the right height... being able to get to the drops without kneeing myself in the chest is a feeling I've come to relish ;)

The biggie is actually my wrists, though - I've got some recurring carpal tunnel and tendonitis from computing too much, and I can't get balanced enough on the Ciocc to get the weight off of my hands... starts feeling ok around 30km/h, but under that I find myself holding myself up a lot on the Ciocc.

My concorde is 53s/t, 54t/t, and I'm figuring that my ideal geometry is probably something like 54/54, and I could probably ride 55/55 pretty comfortably too with the right stem length.

i guess i was thinking price wise of what LB was selling them for at the bike show a few years ago.

i know of the track frames you speak of. they are very nice. the black/yellow is steel and the blue/yellow is aluminum w/ aero downtube.

I rode one of the alu ones for a couple of years. It is a really nice street bike. The steel one is more sprint...short wheelbase.....super steep. The alu one is more pursuit....longer wheelbase...slightly shallower angles. The fork that they come with is still the best track fork I have ever ridden.
