This might be a longshot but has anyone in Toronto seen a Bianchi like this one for sale? I've been looking for this frame for awhile and John at High Park cycles has it but wants $500 for just the frame and fork (a crazy price, the bike is 20 years old!). I know you guys and gals get around and see a lot of bikes, if you ever see a Bianchi similar to this, please let me know. There is also a purple version of this which would be nice but I really like this pink salmon colour. I fell in love with it when I saw a vagrant riding around on one a few years ago.....I am kicking myself for not buying it from him when I saw it. Thanks guys.

There is still some good stuff....a few road frames particularly 2 x56cm 1 x 61cm..that would be a shame to send to the dump.

Yeah, I don't know how John makes any money at all. I walked in there on Saturday and he told me that he couldn't show me anything as he was too busy; he had been talking to a friend of his, real busy. I asked about a Bianchi frame and he said he had lots of them but he still wouldn't show me them. I said I had a Ciocc frame that I would be willing to put towards the purchase of a Bianchi frame (entirely untrue, I'd never part with my Ciocc), he still wouldn't show me.

Hehehe, it is laughable and I actually did laugh and said "Well, forget it then" and started to leave and he stopped me and we took a look around. I'd never give this guy the time of day and I knew that if he had the bike that it would be a ridiculous price but I just like looking around in his shop, it is awe-inspiring. Oh, and that bike photo that I attached was from an eBay auction that ended last week for 280$USD for the entire bike, John wanted 500$CDN for the frame and fork. It isn't even a top of the line frame, it is from a mid-range line, I just like the colour.

Still, I'd like to get a few photos of the inside of his shop and blow the minds of the guys/gals in the Vintage/Classic Forum, John's Italian steel collection is out of control.

;) Hheeh, I'm just sayin' ;) Someone needed a map so it is there in case you need it. I won't be making it (I like to keep the myth of jet sanchEz alive and kicking) but I am sure there will be a ride afterwards.

Nothing too fancy, I just want to build up a slightly more versatile commuter.

Right now I'm thinking Surly Steamroller, which is another ho-hum frame, but will be cheap and allow "offroad stupidity" tires. I think I'll also build up a new wheelset (Formula fixed/fixed, 28/28, DT RR 1.1 rims). Pair that up w/ some generic cranks + sealed bb and that'll be set (I'm going to pull the Sugino 75s off the Pake and save them for an indoor track-dedicated build ... probably replace the Pake's cranks w/ some old fluted Sugino Mightys I have lying around). For bars I think I'll actually use the "ghetto path racer" setup I have on my coaster brake bike. I really enjoyed that setup and I miss it. For the absolute gratuitious bling I'll likely splurge and get a Brooks Swift saddle. FSA cartridge headset, no-name threadless stem, no-name seatpost, yadda yadda. Oh, and the ATACs will move over as well. I'll be selling my old Suntour Cyclone track pedals w/ the Pake.

Keith, I'd like your opinion on that wheel build idea, btw. I'm a fairly scrawny guy (135#, 5'10"), and I'd like to build up a light-ish commuting wheelset. There won't be any extra load on the bike other than the occasional stuffed bag on my back (no rack + panniers or anything) so I think I'll be okay w/ 28/28 spokes. One thing I'm a bit unsure about is crossings for the spokes. I'm thinking 2x front and rear. Please let me know if I'm being an idiot.

I've got a pink/magenta/fusia Bianchi. It's a 52. It's in pretty good condition. Columbus Tubing. mid 80's Don't know if it's your size..

On a vaguely related note ... anyone have any low-budget favourites for a decent crankset?

Off the top of my head:
- Miche Primato (130bcd, 1/8")
- Sugino RD (130bcd, 1/8")

There's of course the option of going w/ a road double, but that **** just pisses me off for some reason.

Rats, it sounds nice but I need a 57....is it the same colour as this one? I have a nice pearl pink Miyata that is a 53, I rode it around for a bit but it was way too small for me...maybe all these pink bikes from the '80s were meant for female riders?

The component choices sound good. The D.T. rims are the absolute s#!t imho. If these are strictly for commuting and weight is not as much of an object you may want to consider the R.R.1.2 from D.T. A little heavier (95gms) but much beefier. Better in a lowish spoke count wheel as well. I like three cross usually but if you are going with the 1.2 28 2 x with nice high spoke tension they would be super.The 1.1 I think I would stick with 3 cross. Stick with butted spokes...2.0-1.8 D.T. Competitions, brass nipples.

I would consider the Miche crank in a higher range than the Rd's. not even close really. They are 135 bcd tho..not 130. If you want something nice for a little cheaper than Miche pista, and don't mind the road double, Campy's standard road cranks takes Miche pista rings.

Riiight, 135. *smacks head* The Miches are beyond what I'd really want to spend for this application anyway. I'm looking for something halfway between "real track crankset quality" and "utter crap"
