Offhoff, cavernmech suggested that the non track 1 guys could go earlier than us and do the track 1 and we'll come in sligthly later to do track 2/3 with them.

Or they could do track 1 while we're flying around the track. Yup.

Offhoff 08-21-06 04:19 PM

Yeah if the guys at the velodrome are cool with that I will definately ask what the options are when I e-mail/phone them. I'm just warning that it *might* not be possible. if it is I will post such and if anyone wants to organize another day for more people to do track 1 that'd be awesome. I'm simply trying to get all the training done so I can start racing.

Offhoff: did jet-coat sandblast your frame?

Offhoff 08-21-06 05:47 PM

yeah sandblasted and taped everything. If you want to come check it out up close shoot me a PM

I've been told by several sources that Saris sells roof racks... am I just blind or are they not on the website?

their ramen is pretty good too ($6.50) ....it's an izakaya (traditional japanese pub) but it could do with some izakaya pricing... read: could be cheaper!!

SUMIMASEN...!! (unless you hear it loud and shrill, the authenticity gets knocked down a notch;) )

My friends mountain bike was stolen today.

It is a black and silver Gary Fisher Marlin, I'm pretty sure it's all stock, umm not sure of the actual size of the frame but it was pretty small.

He's gonna check out Igor's and Uncle Jakes or whatever it's called (anyone know the address?).

so hopefully it turns up at one of those places.

Keep an eye out for it everyone.

izakayas are supposed to be cheap places where you can get a nice variety of food along with your beer..and not the other way around which seems to be prevalent here. you can get the higher end stuff but that's kinda contradictory and generally at the cost of a rowdier atmosphere..which is what you want! ematei has great food but lacks atmosphere and ironically, you don't get much of the younger japanese crowd there. they're smart enough to know that korea town is the better bargain!!

agreed about cheap costs and desired atmosphere. i was thinking that ematei (from the pic) looks fancy for most `izakayas`. how does that other place, "izakaya", compare?

Oh ****e, looks like as of this week Saris no longer makes roof racks (literally, the site has changed VERY recently).

I cannot find roof racks on your website. Have you stopped selling them?

We choose to specialize in racks for the rear of the car. However, we do have an inventory of roof rack products available. If you are an existing roof rack customer and need replacement parts, we have them available. If you need to change parts to accomodate a new car, we do offer an upgrade program.
The roof rack is just "Saris load bars" ... there's a bunch of accessories for it.

Jet Sanchez: Could you detail (in great detail) the process you used to strip the frame down to bare metal? I bought some gel stripper at Home Depot, eagerly awaiting bb tool so I can start stripping.

SamHouston 08-21-06 11:57 PM

I don't know addreses for those bums, but Igors as you know is south side of queen across from the east side of the park on the west side (hehe) and Uncle Joke is on the east side of spadina, below college but above dundas I think.

Actually, I looked several months ago and the site was identical. :P

Goofballs!

Get yourself some proper gloves, and what ever you do, don't get that crap on your skin. That stuff is like napalm. I'd slather it on the frame, and let it sit for ~1 hr or more. The paint will start to bubble, then you can just wipe it off with steel wool. IIRC, I had to apply the stripper maybe 3 times to get all the paint off.

The offer is still open. Its just that between mtn racing...velodrome trips and plain weekend business/drunkeness, has not permitted me the time to think about it. I did get a chance to test ride a Misfits Cycles single speed 29er at the 24 hour. It was really sweet. I think he quoted me retail price of $450 frame and fork. It was an alu bike tho. There was a guy racing there on a 29er single speed made by Jones Cycle. It was a full ti frame and fork done in a wicked cruiser bike style. All curved tubing with a double leg fork. It was just about the sweetest looking bike I have seen in a long time.

No, you didn't (I can see inside your miiind). It used to have a different search feature ... you could pick manufacturer models from the list. I'm not a car guy here, there's no way I could track some of this stuff down otherwise.

Andrew Meamura aka Maki or here on bikeforums Veteran Youth had the 4th fastest night lap out of everybody and the 9th fastest day lap. And Ted, who i think cavernmech only knows also got a top ten lap time.

I haven't heard much from the others on how the race went since most of them are catching up on sleep.

I have been meaning to ask you and Mitch if you are any relation to Greg Kaiser? I know you live in the beaches and thought it might not be a coincidence.
