As you whip around depending on your setup you may have slack in your chain for whatever reason. So in order to keep it from jumping vertically as you ride a tensioner keeps, well, tension on the chain so it won't inadvertently pop off while you roll. Folks with flip flops may actually run a couple differing cogs with the same chain and this is a totally helpful little piece of gear.

Its like a rear derailleur....except it doesnt shift. just keeps the chain tensioned on one rear sprocket. Track/SS frames dont need em cause you can pull the wheel back to tension the chain.

as you have one gear total...not really ..pull the wheel back farther to create tension....or stare it real hard to cause tension. :lol:

good choice :) ...speaking of which, i went to sushi marche last night with the gf thinking we could sit down and enjoy some nice fresh sushi..hahaha. suffice it to say, we got takeout. it was great by the way. we were told that they get very little japanese customers and asked us how we heard about it: BIKE FORUMS BABY!!! and i also walked by it several times at night in the summer. great food, but i don't think it would really appeal to japanese tourists/travellers. expats are another thing. location might have something to do with it.....

It's certainly getting good usage in that neighbourhood. The sushi course is supposed to be awesome. He's a pretty laid back guy, he makes special little things the kids. They love it there.
