What time do you get off work? They're letting us leave at 2pm. I'd be up for a late lunch.

TRaffic Jammer 10-04-06 07:45 AM

Does that entail getting s**tfaced?
I'm gonna pull the plug on the gears on the mountain bike for the winter I think. Anyone have a mountain bike gearing in mind for spinning about town?

Less than 3:1, more than 2.5:1 would be my preferance. Are you going to run a tensioner?

It's possible that I might get out early, but I'm not counting on it, so I'll say 5:00.

Hah.. potentially. And I think it would be a great preface to some pseudo-keirin at a school track. :D

I wish they would let you up on top of city hall. Its got a partially banked running track going the whole way around it.

TRaffic Jammer 10-04-06 08:04 AM

So if I ran a 42(clearance?)x16= 2.625:1
Recommends on a tensioner?

duppy.conqueror 10-04-06 08:11 AM

I got a n00b question...what is a chain tensioner for?

TRaffic Jammer 10-04-06 08:17 AM

To keep the chain from jumping about as you wizz.

I dont get it....

<== not good at getting things mechanical...(unless its computers)

Shiznaz 10-04-06 08:24 AM

its like a rear derailleur that doesn't do anything but sit there.

TRaffic Jammer 10-04-06 08:25 AM

As you whip around depending on your setup you may have slack in your chain for whatever reason. So in order to keep it from jumping vertically as you ride a tensioner keeps, well, tension on the chain so it won't inadvertently pop off while you roll. Folks with flip flops may actually run a couple differing cogs with the same chain and this is a totally helpful little piece of gear.

Its like a rear derailleur....except it doesnt shift. just keeps the chain tensioned on one rear sprocket. Track/SS frames dont need em cause you can pull the wheel back to tension the chain.

duppy.conqueror 10-04-06 08:27 AM

okee thanx guyz...do you need it if you have a fixed frame? or only if you have a conversion? like would I need one on mine?

edit: I just saw your answer to my final dumb '?'...thanx keith!

TRaffic Jammer 10-04-06 08:28 AM

as you have one gear total...not really ..pull the wheel back farther to create tension....or stare it real hard to cause tension.

/me is currently staring with a reall hard core gangsta thug look but chain seems to stay in place... ;)

TRaffic Jammer 10-04-06 08:36 AM

Then it's workin ...you have created tension.

jeremywhitehorn 10-04-06 08:39 AM

try plucking it to see if there's enough tension...

TRaffic Jammer 10-04-06 08:40 AM

What kind of note should he get with a fixed road setup?

jeremywhitehorn 10-04-06 08:47 AM

f-sharp of course.

TRaffic Jammer 10-04-06 08:53 AM

good choice :) ...speaking of which, i went to sushi marche last night with the gf thinking we could sit down and enjoy some nice fresh sushi..hahaha. suffice it to say, we got takeout. it was great by the way. we were told that they get very little japanese customers and asked us how we heard about it: BIKE FORUMS BABY!!! and i also walked by it several times at night in the summer. great food, but i don't think it would really appeal to japanese tourists/travellers. expats are another thing. location might have something to do with it.....

TRaffic Jammer 10-04-06 08:55 AM

It's certainly getting good usage in that neighbourhood. The sushi course is supposed to be awesome. He's a pretty laid back guy, he makes special little things the kids. They love it there.
