Actually, it's quite elegant. I hope mine looks as good when it's finally ready in time for spring.

I seem to recall the signs saying it isn't cleared.

zippered 01-21-07 03:03 PM

yeah, no winter maintenance... and although they are not clear at the moment, they were still fun! :)

I_bRAD 01-21-07 04:09 PM

There's a weird smooth snow-ice coating on the trails that's very amusing to ride on where it wasn't walked on before it froze.

well thank you. i think the all black scheme helps that. we'll see how elegant it is after a winter of salt. i don't mind running it through hell; the frame is bent and the BB threads are seized so it's in there permanently.

jeremywhitehorn 01-21-07 04:48 PM

has anyone else seen the new bianchi street fixies w/ aluminum frames? i saw them at urbane the other day and they look sort of like the track pros, but with bosses for a rear brake and a carbon fork. kind of an odd hybrid?

sweep242 01-21-07 05:28 PM

You mean the San Jose? Sheldon breaks it down well.

I agree with the elegant comment black & chrome go well together.
Cheers

no, not the san jose, it's a track-styled street fixie. no fender eyelets, no clearance for big tires or anything and oversixed aluminum frame. i believe it's called the "freemont"

Meh. Not impressed. Maybe after a couple of beers

zippered 01-21-07 06:25 PM

the photos isn't great and the brake levers are underwhelming but it looks okay in person. a nice shaped tubes, but the rear brake bosses are a bit off putting. screams "single speed messenger look-a-like".

It's got pretty steep gearing out of the box...

jet sanchEz 01-21-07 07:23 PM

Odd, I was at Urbane on Saturday and was playing around with the Fremont as well. It is very light and Urbane had their models set up as fixed but I am pretty sure it is fixed/free so that could make it very versatile. I wasn't super-impressed as it is 900$CDN; the brakes and brake-levers were no-name and the pedals are some really cheap plasticky things but the fork was CF, so that is kinda neat. I'd much rather ride a conversion for a lot less money but the rear spacing is 120mm, so it is track-inspired however the geometry seemed pretty slack to me.

Looks nice but those pictures don't show how massively thick the down-tube is; it looks like one of those old C-dales from the late 1980s.

operator 01-21-07 07:28 PM

but the fork was CF,
Meh, you can get cheap carbon forks for like $50.

For about the same price, we're getting in the fully built steamrollers near the beginning of March. I already own a steamroller, but I like it so much I would almost consider getting a fully built one as a real beater. Probably no where as light as the Bianchi though.

edit: of course, I'm really holding out for a Japanese Keirin Frame

There was a thread not long ago about this very subject & only the cross check is available guess that guy’s problems will be solved with the complete SR.
As for the fremont ahh its ok. The pista has it beat by a mile or more.

I got a CF fork for X-MAS 51.60 CND evil bay.

I once said NJS for life (ha-ha) I’ve now changed it to IRO for life(ha-ha)

Sirrobinofcoxly 01-21-07 10:51 PM

This bike looks like it was run over my a truck...in a good way.

Hehe, I am even less impressed now. That is a whole lot of money for a nothing-special bike.

jeremywhitehorn 01-21-07 11:30 PM

hey, check it out, i thought of a theme for our next group ride.

One of my friends is going to Japan soon. How serious are you about getting a frame?
