Lesson 1: Never call dibs (unless you've already bought the frame) :D

Lesson 2: Always share

The bike is not a Ciocc, as it turns out, but a 57 Cambino Riho track bike

too small for me, unfortunately. PM me if you want buddy's email or more pics (or you can search Canadian Cyclist and email him, like I did :D ) I'll fire the info into the For Sale thread tomorrow to give folks here first shot.

eyefloater 02-11-06 06:53 PM

Ya, I called him today and talked to him too. If it'd been a Ciocc it would have been in my living room by now. Wasn't that bike company (the one dude's selling) a subset of Gardin?

Edit: it would have also helped if the bike actually fit me. ;) sr20det, I might have a line on some Pulse frames. Let me know if you're seriously interested in one and what your size is. If it turns out this isn't another "outdated webpage from years ago" situation I'll let you know.

somnambulant 02-11-06 08:10 PM

Pulse? Never heard of 'em. Any info?

... I have no idea if you were being sincere or sarcastic. There's a thread going on right now in the main ssfg forum that deals w/ these frames. Peace out, home skillet.

¿Cuánto cuesta?

somnambulant 02-11-06 09:31 PM

ah ha.. yeah, I was being sincere. I was thinking it was a brand, not a model. I mostly just check in on this thread. I haven't been reading much else lately because there's too much bs lately it seems. Typical message board crap. :P

signal:NOISE! I feel your pain and I need to stop rubber-necking the obvious "don't read this - it'll annoy you" threads.

Anyone up for a ride/coffee run? I'm out of espresso beans.

Yeah, I talked to the guy as well and the frame is my size, I just had my heart set on a gorgeous Ciocc *sigh*. The pics he sent me are really nice and the colour of the frame is gorgeous, I will think about it a bit more.

If you do get a line on a Pulse(s), please give me a PM as well, I have a soft spot for GTs and that would be a nice fill-in until I find a Ciocc :) Thanks.

i got a cambio rino steel road frame off ebay just some months ago for $250. no way i'd pay $450 for a cambio frame. that's at least $300 US, and for that amount, ebay has tons of good frames.

This one has never been built up and the pics that I received show a really nice pearl-white colour. I won't be buying it or anything, but 450$ for an unbuilt steel track frame isn't too nuts nowadays. How is your cambio? Like it? Is it an offshoot of Gardin or was Gardin just the supplier for the brand in Canada? Thanks.

anyone else get a ride in this weekend? for the first time in months
i acutally managed two rides. saturday was so cold with that wind i
had to stop in at jet fuel to thaw out.

speaking of caffiene, in my never ending quest to find the perfect
espresso bean that isn't from starbucks (i hate myself for it but i
acutally enjoy them), i came across a mention of this company in the
globe's weekend edition:

http://www.darkcitycoffee.com/

so i've been thinking about giving them a shot, support local business
and all that, but since all of you fellows are cyclists and most
cyclists are coffee drinkers, some possibly even affictionadoes i
thought i would put out an informal suvey first: what is your
favourite espresso bean? any local companies that i should be trying?

jeremy

PS - only three weeks until the bike show, the true beginning of spring!

darkmother 02-13-06 11:45 AM

If you want a dark roast, check out the coffee place in kensington-not moonbean-that has a weird atomic looking sign in front. They roast thier own beans, which is critical to getting fresh, good coffee, unless you are going to roast your own. I find whole beans are going stale after 10 days or so.

Moonbean does mostly lighter roasts, even thier expresso. I prefer these. You might also want to check out balzac's in the distillery district. Pretty good too.

(I am a coffee snob BTW)

jet sanchEz 02-13-06 11:48 AM

I dunno the name of the bean, but Alternative Grounds on Roncesvalles has some great coffee and espresso beans. It is fair trade coffee, meaning that the growers get a fair price and are not ***** a la Starbucks. Check it out, also, if you are near Roncesvalles, there is another coffee shop called Cherry Bomb and the owner is a bike nerd and has a bike hung on the wall. He changes it every month or so; right now it is one of those inverted-fork racer things, but he had a gorgeous Cinelli raod bike up there a few months ago.

Offhoff 02-13-06 11:55 AM

There is also Ellington's on St. Clair W. just west of Christie. He'll actually fresh roast green beans for you or sell you green beans you've roasted yourself, which is the only way to enjoy a truly authentic cup of coffee.

TRaffic Jammer 02-13-06 11:56 AM

Kick Ass is my current favourite! a darkish roast with some medium mixed in. very flavourful. best made in a french press coarsely ground. you won't be dissapointed.

Roncesvalles is my hood, man (boustead ave). i often hang out at Alternative Grounds, and their coffee is decent but i can't remember if their espresso roast is any good. maybe i'll stop in there today and give it a try. i'll have to check out cherry bomb, for the bikes if nothing else. we need a jet fuel-type coffee shop in the west end...

what part of roncey do you live in? shout if you want to ride sometime....

actually i stopped in to the Faema place on my way home from work last week. pretty cool stuff there; i don't have an espresso machine but being in there made me want one! especially one of the old italian chrome jobs with the hand pump. a work of art that makes coffee; what more could you ask for? didn't try their coffee though, it look like mostly that vaccum-packed stuff you can buy at the grocery store.

two thumbs up also for jet fuel and balzacs...

Thanks man....we are a simple drip family the wife and I....lol....
A nice press wouldn't be so hard in the morning.

jeremywhitehorn 02-13-06 12:23 PM

maybe i should mention that i don't have a proper espresso machine but one of those stove-top pots... a moka pot i think is the right term...

TRaffic Jammer 02-13-06 12:25 PM

I have no machine whatsoever..... I pour water into the paper filter into the cup.

Exactly how I prepare it.. :) That's the stuff by Kicking Horse Coffee, right? It's also fair-trade / organic / Canadian.

If there's any other tea-drinkers in the house, they also make really great fair-trade / organic tea under the name "coup de thé" (such a good name). The Earl Grey is fantastic!

yup, that's kicking horse stuff. i tried their "grizzly claw", another dark roast. i also tried their espresso blend but i wasn't as impressed as with their others.

i stick with twinings for all my tea needs. i'm not as much of a tea snob as i am a coffee snob though...

somnambulant 02-13-06 01:16 PM

The stovetops still make a decent enough coffee.. that's what I use as well. All those Italian grandmothers can't be wrong, can they? :)

I'd like to pick up a proper machine some day, but at this point I'd have to look into a financing plan. :P Plus being a 9 to 5'er right now it doesn't seem to make sense to spend all that money on a machine I'll only use once a day. I'm still stuck with spending money or drinking office coffee otherwise.

TRaffic Jammer 02-13-06 01:21 PM

Coffee has just GOTTA have that POW ZING BLAMO kinda quality to it.

somnambulant 02-13-06 01:27 PM

hence the paper filter into the cup? ;)
