Dear Sirrobin and Shimbot,

Thanks for your hospitality today. And putting up with the most inefficient mechanical work ever. I can't help being clumsy. Hope you enjoyed the cookies.

The cookies were good, but bring money next time. We are trying to run a business here! :D

Got a dura-ace 15t 3/32 here at curbside. Don't know if that helps.

operator 02-18-07 03:37 PM

Ideally i'd like a 15.5T but I don't think that's possible :P Runing a 42t Front with 15 is a bit heavy (75)especially on longer rides with rolling hills. However 16t seems TOO easy as that's 70 GI.

I don't want to change out my front chainring :P

*KSSSTTTT....glug glug* No Dan...Sorry....there are no beers left ;)

I am not totally sure about the Newcastles. A different flavour for sure.

42:15 is quite do-able. I'm at 44:15 at the moment.... 46:15, definitely a little steep

42/15 is very doable, I'm running 42/14 (78.8 GI) on my winter bike and 48/16 (78.8 GI) on my Fuji which I take out for long rides, and have no problems going up hills or anything, you're running a front brake right? (if not then use a lower gear for sure)

operator 02-18-07 05:32 PM

Yeah front brake. I'm just a weakling.

i use 42x16 for just about everything. remember one tooth in the rear is worth three in the front. joke about that as you may. if you're not sure about the gearing just run the easier one for a few weeks until you get used to it. i thought you didn't ride in the winter.

Damn, and I just made peanut butter choc chip cookies today to spend there. How about homemade perogies with crispy bacon and onions?

So stuffed now.

operator 02-18-07 06:35 PM

Sigh, instant noodles were the highlight of my day

sr20det 02-18-07 07:35 PM

missing an auction for a dell x50v w/ bluetooth keyboard for $200 on ebay was the highlight of my day.

Instead I was working on the fit and cleaning up my bike from the salt grime.

Thats tomorrows job. Give the bike a shower day.

I'm having a hard time coming up with a reason why anyone would actually like obnoxious words on their bike like this:

http://www.pbase.com/jimaizumi/image/71566843.jpg

The ugliness is hurting my eyes.

I saw that bike on the road part of here & people kept asking what kind of wheels are those? LoL It’s just way too much.

Just saw a something interesting TIP take zip ties wrap it around your rim & tire trim it on top of the rim you now have more traction. On the cheap. Bike Portland is a great site http://www.bikeportland.org/

In some ways I think words are sexy. Would I like that bike more if it was bare? I'm not so sure.
I understand why they do it. It's so from a photo I can go to a store and buy every part that was on the bike to a tee. In the sort of way where I like to know what I'm looking at.

Mmm. Zero-G brakes.

Jeeez they TOTALLY missed a spot on the seat stays..amateurs.

Hey...I know this is silly but what does one do when you actually do want to call the police on a driver and his partner that threaten to kill you both with their van and then physically? I have the plate # and am sufficiently freaked out but their level of vein popping, mouth frothing, hate-filled spewings that maybe....just maybe a uniformed warning might be in order.

I’ll say it, the bike is hideous.

I wonder if that bad boy runs Shimano?

Call them. You know their info, they won't know yours. Call and get them charged with assault. That will make them love bikers, but it hopefully will teach them a lesson.

I_bRAD 02-19-07 09:09 AM

I think you have to go down and file a complaint in person. Then they snicker at the hippie and throw your complaint in the garbage when you leave.

The very good news is that if you're like me, your mp3 player is on you at all times. It's also good news that it's only one button away from "audio record" function with at least 10 hour tape time @ 128kbps.

I doubt the police would care, but it might be good to have. People usually take a step back when you inform them that they are being recorded (although i'm not sure on the legality of this in public, I know you can photo them at will).

Join the pity party buddy! One of these days they'll get their come-uppance...

TRaffic Jammer 02-19-07 09:23 AM

I try, and usually succeed, in not getting freaked by these madmen, but these guys were out there....made me wish I had a fer-git-about chain on my bag. They stopped in front and made pulling over motions, but failed to commit. I was out numbered, and clearly at a disadvantage, so I'm glad they didn't try to follow through or someone would have been hurt. More than likely at least two of the three of us to some degree. I wonder how hard manual work is with a busted knee? :D Crazy people..... Having my distinctive lid will clearly be a disadvantage in this regard.

 No audio recordings Rob, I don't ride with music....
hmmm Flash ROM, helmet cam video? Record the commute, then record over it if uneventful. Fuuuun idea. Them cameras are getting pretty tiny.

operator 02-19-07 09:30 AM

Yeah I don't either, but it's always within easy access.

cavernmech 02-19-07 09:34 AM

Speaking of cops...i was on my way home on Friday night at about 12. I was lit up like a christmas tree..2 rear flashies...2 front flashies...1 flashing spokey and reflective leg bands on both legs. Traffic was light but as I approached Leslie I checked for traffic..signalled my lane change and pulled into the left lane to make my turn north on Leslie. As I waited for the light to change a cop car pulled up next to me. The cop rolled his window down and gave me this. 1. You cant be in the middle lane on a bike..I was turning left I replied. 2. You have to signal the turn....I did signal I replied. 3. You shouldnt be riding a bike in winter this late in the evening...Wtf!!..Bike riding is a viable method of winter transportation for me for over 20 years I reply. 4. Watch yourself or you are going to get run over...no S#!t. He then drives away. I wanted to tell him to **** off and go find a real criminal but that outburst would no doubt have earned me a stay in Chateau 52 drunk tank. I dont dislike the police. I know several who are great guys and ride bikes avidly. This assclown gives them all a bad name.
Oh I should mention that he could barely stuff his fat ass behind the wheel.
*End Rant*
Shurely if I complained they would take it seriously?
*end sarcasm*

operator 02-19-07 09:38 AM

I'm pretty sure almost every driver thinks point 1,2,3 and 4 when they're out driving and see a bike behaving like a vehicle like they're supposed to. They just don't have the balls to say it to your face.

May I suggest a change to the drivers license test then cause there are far too many uneducated car drivers out there.
