So I just had a customer come in the shop. She at 68 can't comfortably ride her dads old "racing" bike anymore and was looking for something more comfortable and less racy. She is Belgian and has been riding her dads old "racer" which upon further conversation I found out is fixed! She was astonished that this type of bike is so popular again... "thats all we used to ride back home" BLESS!!

somnambulant 03-27-07 09:09 AM

^^^ what he said.

ps. I hope to still be riding a "racer" when I'm 68. :)

They aren't slicks.. just not enough resolution/contrast in the pics.

For those people who need to dress up at work, how do you manage riding? I am getting the jonze to start riding as much as possible, save some TTC fair and get burn off my winter fat. But, I need to dress 'nicely' for work.

What do people do?

Carry your work clothes and change when you get to work? You might get a few strange looks when changing in the restroom.

My commute is pretty short... I just wear my work clothes. When it's super hot and stanky I might throw on a jersey or some other sort of poly shirt (I have some tshirts from MEC too) and/or wear shorts. I just get changed in a bathroom stall in the office. Depends on what you mean by "nicely" though as well. Like, I don't have to wear a shirt/tie or anything.

duppy.conqueror 03-27-07 09:47 AM

also some of the traders at my work bring suits and dress shirts etc to work and hang up in office...then just come in and change in to them...and drycleaners are downstairs so they dont need to take home...

I am in a shirt and tie workplace. However, I do have my own office. My thinking now is to leave a bunch of clothes in my office. But I don't know if other people have better ideas.

I often have people ask me about my bikes and/or make positive comments.. then again, suits are not the same as academics/Uni staff. :)

I just did an inventory. I have at work in my cubicle:
8 button up dress shirts
5 pairs trousers
2 fancy sweaters
5 T shirts
9 golf shirts
2 pairs socks
1 tie
1 blazer
1 overcoat
2 pairs leather shoes
1 belt
1 box baby wipes
1 bottle febreeze
1 comb
(seriously I have all this within 3 feet of me)

I never ride in my work clothes because I generally pay to have them drycleaned or laundered downstairs. The less physical activity the more wearings I can get out of each garment. They also have time to 'mellow' as it were in between wearings as I have so many to cycle through. Wearing a fresh t-shirt under them helps immensely too.

I change in my cubicle and haveonly been walked in on a couple of times. Changing in a washroom stall every day is not something you want to do... My coworkers ten to avoid my office until about a half hour after I get in specifically to minimize seeing me without a shirt on.

We have really nice bike racks in the basement that lock up both wheels with shackles and hand the bike vertically against the wall. Its near the security people and has a camera pointed at it so there basically no way my bike could get stolen during work.

Shane McGowan would be proud. Although I think he is more suited to a Colgate or Crest toothpaste ad.
