The lock up situation at these bike shows is usually pretty freakin bad. Just a heads up... The prime locking real-estate tends to be chain link fence

somnambulant 03-02-06 11:02 AM

Yeah, there isn't a whole lot around the Ex. If you can lock around the main entrance though there's enough traffic and security that I wouldn't worry too much.

I'm not sure if I'm going to ride mainly due to the fact that I might buy some stuff and I don't know if I want to ride home with it on my back. :)

TRaffic Jammer 03-02-06 11:04 AM

So are we in general agreement to TTC/hoofing to Moonbeam for a meet and greet then off we go? I'd lose my mind to have my ride tinkered with. Simply can't afford replacing stuff. It'll be nice to meet some of ya finally. I think we must have passed each other at the Ice Races a couple weeks ago.

ICE RACE UPDATE.... Who is a representative of said Ice Races....a bug has been planted within the marketing dept @ Red Bull...they definitely sound interested but I DONOT wish to step on any organizer toes.... Everyone I spoke to at the race said oh yea great, but honestly I don;t think they thought it could/would actually happen. Between my wife and I we have some pretty cool marketing /promotional connections.

Shiznaz 03-02-06 11:08 AM

eh, I'd still lock up outside the show, but thats just because I have a beater I ride in the winter. Any of my nicer bikes and I'd do the transit thing. Maybe I can just tail the bathurst street car!

Alls I knows is that the guy "MC'ing" the thing (who was announcing the heats and such) is the owner (I assume he's the owner.. he's always been there the couple times I've gone in, and the place is tiny) of The Bike Joint on Harbord. So, he might be a good contact person.

TRaffic Jammer 03-02-06 11:36 AM

sweeet sounds like a good place to start. I remember speaking to him, he's a good egg.

BIKE SHOW update...... the sales lady who is responsible for the bike show advertising has gotten a call from the show and her/my tickets are ready. Stay tuned for the announcement. Turns out they are 14 floors above my head. I may risk the parking sit just to ride....... indecision ...arggh my nemesis!!!

there is an underground parking lot that is in use during the show that has "bike parking". i lock mine up to the railing outside the doors leading to the escalator. never had a problem, there is usually a parking attendant there anyway. enter via the parking garage at the trade centre.
there are also several of the city-installed "post and loop" bike parking rings outside the builing from what i remember...

TRaffic Jammer 03-02-06 11:47 AM

oooh cool where's that entrance?

I JUST noticed it's Moon Bean...and I've been typin Moonbeam...... D'oh :p

darkmother 03-02-06 11:58 AM

I'll hook up with you guys for coffee @ moonbean, and then I am going to ride down. I don't think locking up down there is a big problem unless your bike is super pimped. In previous years I have always locked up in front, I seem to remember some steel railings.

Maybe we could shoot for moonbean at noon? comments?

enter via the underground parking garage on the west side of the building. lock up near the doors once you're underground at they will take you up the main level. look for the bikes already locked up. you can't miss it.

It's ok, I've been typing AND saying "moonbeam" from when I first heard of it until, well.. until I just read your post. :)

Talk to Derek at The Bike Joint. He is the one who prints up the flyers and gets the permit for the ice.

TRaffic Jammer 03-02-06 02:13 PM

Cool I will go see him as .."unoffically" Red Bull was "Hell yea we like it....that's the ****"... I don't want to push any race org members out of the way or anything. I'm a retired messer and bringing some of the crazy world of messing to the real world has always been something I wanted to do. How does Ice Races at Maple Leaf Gardens sound?

Lads ... I have in my hand FOUR passes. That's a 50/50 split, how you guys wanna do it I don't know.

sweep242 03-02-06 02:28 PM

I'm in as well & pass or no pass.

TRaffic Jammer 03-02-06 02:36 PM

I'd like to see a pass go to someone that is honest and for true broke like a church mouse, but if it's combat you guys decide on .....so be it. :roflmao:

i'm gainfuly employed, so if there are some student/artist/transient/anarchist/lazy types among you i'd be glad to relinquish any dibs i may have had on a freebie...

TRaffic Jammer 03-02-06 03:38 PM

Now the biggest question as of yet unanswered.... Is the food good there (Moon Bean), and what time? I don't feel the need to be there as the doors open myself but if you guys all want your passes early I can be there. I have two kids so waking up in the morning is no longer the problem it used to be. lol

J...you're a good sport. That's FOUR PASSES kids.

i'm ungainfully employed so i'll pass on the passes as well. not sure if i'll be doing this solo or with the girlfriend. if it's the former, i'll be supplying the requisite bbq pork buns. i can also double somebody up on the locking issue too if necessary (will be bringing a krypto-molly and onguard-mini.)

Moonbean has some food, but I've not eaten there-it's more or less a cafe. For me, the caffiene fix is sufficient to draw take me there.

As for the pass, I'm workin' for the man as well, so give it to one of the students. Thanks for the offer.

TRaffic Jammer 03-02-06 04:01 PM

5! *zing* I'll check in later... we don't have a time yet do we. Got my loong krypto....
Lookin forward to meeting you guys. Bean and Bake then darkmother?

thanks. some good has to come from this boring job.

i'm probably having breakfast with the folks so noonish would work for me, but don't let me stop anyone. as for food; kensington is one big culinary experience so take your pick.

sr20det 03-02-06 04:10 PM

thanks for the generous ticket offer but i'm not 100% sure I will be able to make it.
it all depends on how long my lunch on sunday takes.
+ if I do make it down, I'll have to meet you guys at the convention centre because I def. won't make it in time to catch you guys at moonbean.

Shiznaz 03-02-06 05:23 PM

If theres no extra free tickets available I'd be happy to buy one myself... I may be a student and artsy and lazy but I'm not especially broke. Plus there is a chance my girlfriend may come, but probably not. I am meeting with Bike-o-phile at the show to pick up some bits for my wheels so I will essentially be going whenever he is (although he said he will be there on both saturday and sunday). I'll go ahead and put my vote in for meeting at moon bean at 11:30am, just because it seems 'proper'

PS. bake, bean and bake. and then bake again!

sweep242 03-02-06 08:17 PM

Hey don’t get me wrong free works for me, let’s just see who shows up & go from there. Time wise i say 11:00ish time for a coffee & get to the show around or just before 12:00 that's my vote. Still a few days before, so we'll see.
Cheers

operator 03-02-06 08:27 PM

Elevennnnnnnnnnnnnnn!
Man, the bus doesn't even run here on Sunday...!

If one of those free passes are available hook me up with one please. <- student

cavit8 03-02-06 10:17 PM

Have fun guys. My plane doesn't get back 'til about 1 (read 2:30 by the time I get out of the terminal) so I'll miss most of the joy. Just as well as I need to cull, not add, my cycling pile.
