Not sure about aluminum but give em a call. There may be other places but, this is the only one i know of.
Cheers

Alu frames cannot be re-welded. They are heat-treated after welding for strength and this heat-treatment will not allow further welding. If the drop-out is big and beefy enough you could just drill 2 holes in the dropouts and have em tapped...prolly the only way. I did this to my IRO to install a rear fender. Clamps suck a$$.

Shiznaz 03-30-07 08:20 AM

anybody interested in Tai Chi? I'm going for a 'free introductory course' noon to 2:00 pm this saturday. I want to learn some basics so I can pass some time in the evenings on my tour and release some of the tension built up from being in the saddle all day (and freak out all the squares at the campgrounds). Its at Wu's Tai Chi Chuan Academy between richmond and adelaide at 76 Stafford Street.

I gotta do this sometime:

Black Metal Brunch @ Graffiti's 170 Baldwin, at Kensington, 416-506-6699. Planet Kensington may be dead, but the legendary punk club's superb Black Metal Brunch lives on in this Elvis-fixated Market watering hole. Warning: unless you consider Florida grind-core blasted at maximum volume dinner music, bring ear plugs. Best: from grunge gourmet chef Linda Dawson's (ex Southern Accent, Bellair Café) rotating card, her creditable vegetarian take on eggs Benny topped with shiitakes and heavily yolked hollandaise; shredded duck, sun-dried tomato, scallion and bocconcini omelette sided with 'homies" (regular and sweet potato home fries); remarkably light blintzes overstuffed with lemony ricotta and dressed with thickened sour cream and marinated cherries. Complete brunches for $16 per person, including all taxes, tip and a pint. Average main $7. Open Sunday 11 am to 6 pm. Licensed. Access: one step at door, small washrooms on same floor. Rating: NNNN

Anyone want to trade a 42t 130bcd for a 44t 130bcd chainring? :) Rode it last night and didn't like the uber low gear ratio, brand spanking new otherwise...

Fridays are usually no good because I have lunch with my coworkers. If anything changes I'll post. I assume you'll be online before then?
Come on... office space :)

Heading downtown in like 30mins.

I'm actually going to CM today! Hurray for slacking off on data analysis! Who cares about data anyways. It's so... snobby.

Cam, are you going? I want to give you that beery beverage I promised.

I racked my brain and I can't remember, I think it was a 44T or maybe 42T. The ring I was just using was a 46T and I got a 42T and they both suck (too high/too low) with a 16 rear.

That makes me want to build a bike just to brag about the wicked wheel.

Shiznaz 03-30-07 09:11 AM

Hey brad I saw your doppleganger and queen and shaw again today.

Also, are you getting elblow surgery soon? I took another look at your xray and some of those screws look like they need some loctite

You don't like 46x16? That's what I was running for the past 2 years. Most of the time I enjoyed it. It just got slightly mashy if I was tired and/or drunk. I just switched to 48x18 when I swapped out my cranks though.

I thought 46/16 was the ideal zen combo. I want to switch to 42/15 is I can my 15 cog from my s/s hub.

operator 03-30-07 09:27 AM

I ain't getting up that york mills hill on a 46x16, not without requring knee surgery afterwards. Remember I was a massive spinner on my road bike. Totally not an ulrich.

Shiznaz 03-30-07 09:28 AM

hmmm.... hey guys I think I'm going to have to (or at least should) sell my spicer fixed gear bike before my tour. I just don't ride it now I have a khs commuter and cyclops track. Either as a complete or parted out (I'll need to swap some parts around first; I'm keeping my Level/cxp33 wheels). 60cm seat tube c-c, 62cm top tube c-c, aluminum w/ kinesis carbon fork, 'street track' geometry. Perfect mechanical condition but a little wear and tear to the powder coating and its chipping off a bit at the dropouts. Any interest before I decide to put it up on CL or ebay?

If complete I'd be interested to know a price.

jeremywhitehorn 03-30-07 09:46 AM

i don't know how you guys mash around on huge 80" gears. 46x16 is fine as long as there aren't any inclines around. i use a 42x16 for just about everything, except for winter, which is when the 18t comes out to play.

Big gears are great. Brakes are for men, skids are for sissies (since I hate using emocons, sarcasm was intended).

Actually going to gear down today. 42/15 if I can get the lockring off. I have no problem with 42/14, but a few hills do make me groan when I think about having to ride up them. Like Ave or Yonge upto St. Clair. And Yonge/York Mills.

2wheelsgood 03-30-07 09:57 AM

48X16 FTW!
Skids are for fun!

somnambulant 03-30-07 09:58 AM

*shrug* I never found 46x16 to be a problem for my usual rides around the GTA. The Yonge/St. Claire hill wasn't a big deal. And I also did most of my longer training rides last year without much of an issue. I'm also a total spinner (90rpm, typically) on my roadbike and don't stand up and mash unless I have to. I think being forced to occasionally stand up and mash has probably helped my mtn biking though as things sometimes tend to change faster than I can gear down for. :)

ps. 46x16 = 76"
pps. I vote we spend the evening *behind* Cavern.

eoin.murphy 03-30-07 10:10 AM

where is this bike chain thing. and what do you do there

i'll let you get behind cavern...

i dunno, i guess i'm a bit of a weakling but whenever i try using a large gear like that i end up getting sore legs and gearing back down to my 71" gear.
