The Halton Police Auction is this coming Saturday in Oakville, and includes "over 140 bicycles".

Not sure if this will be any good, but maybe a good place to pick up a frame for a fixie conversion? The toronto city auctions are usually a bust as the good frames get scoped out beforehand and snatched up quickly..

There is a U of T prof who rides one of those. Love the hi-wheel tho. There is a guy in Vienna who makes modern hi-wheels. They are sick. I got to try one when I was last there. I miss the Old Time Bike Races they used to do at the Win-Del Velodrome every other year. Folks would come from as far as Florida to "compete". Compete is a strong word as everyone just kind of puttered around the track. It takes some confidence to ride 8 feet off the ground while hitting the banking. Good times indeed.

also at BCE place they have a little exhibit with various different concept drawings and mockups for the waterfront revitalization project. I was pretty disappointed by all of them, but they are a far sight better than whats there now. Worth a look if you're in the area.

somnambulant 04-16-07 11:45 AM

Me so tired. I've been up for almost 10 hours, had a 3.25 hour flight and now I'm sitting at work. Calgon, take me away.

ftw

P.S I just put 700c wheels on a 26" mtb frame, v-brake studs don't allow brakes to reach high enough and the center post for single/dual pivot brakes has a massive reach all the way down.

What are my options?

In the past I have known of enterprising machinists who have made a solution to this problem. If you are enterprising find an old canti brake brace, drill and tap holes in the appropriate location and thread in some canti studs. Mavic makes em but they are pretty pricey.

potentially old news, but I saw this in the NOW's cycling calendar: Toronto Bicycle Film Festival Art, music, film and interactive events celebrating the bicycle happen citywide to Aug 25. www.bicyclefilmfestival.com

I didn't know it was coming here this year. Whee.

Ahem, university doesn't go to St. Clair, it becomes queen's park crescent at queen's park and avenue at bloor.

/End of lecture.
//went to st. clair twice and then to eglinton
///slashies ftw!

*cough* (forgot to ask when I had you on the phone earlier)

ps. I picked up Indian food on the way home but forgot to order rice. I remembered the naan and veggie pakora's however. I would have expected them to point out such a silly mistake, but instead I'm now waiting on some basmati rice in my rice cooker. b'oh!

i know a guy who lives in oakville and has picked some great frames out of the trash on those "anything goes" garbage days. if this is any indication of the police auction, i'd say it's alright. i'd image the fact that there's more money in oakville and more people getting bored of the latest greatest thing would mean there's more frames up for grabs.

I will keep you posted.
