Great times had at the Island today and the weather was sensational.

For those who know, and I'm not one of them, is $68 with shiping a good price for 9 speed durace barcons, with all cables, housings etc.? And what are the odds of me finding some in town for a better price then that?

Much more fun than painting my office :(

'Cause just tonight (Sunday) I saw someone walk a bike (either fixie or SS, don't remember) with a thingie like that in the rear wheel around Chinatown.

Edit: I see, two of them are like that in the picture. What's up with that anyhow? :)

somnambulant 05-07-07 05:26 AM

holy ****! is that a floppy?? I'm totally stealing that idea. :P

Shiznaz 05-07-07 05:55 AM

They are disc wheels.

PS. dan, I found out the reason I couldn't withdraw any cash yesterday. My account was raided for 1,800 dollars while we were riding around. dirty bast*rd crooks... now I have to sort it all out. At least since this is the second time this has happened I know what to expect... They spent 593 dollar at winners and 115 dollars at a cigar store.

I'm not sure, but there's a set on the Canadian Cyclist classifieds for $75 (new in box), so $68 to your door with all the dingdongs sounds good!

fisso416 05-07-07 07:41 AM

Great pictures Ronin2046 - I wish I could have made it. I will be there next Sunday(?) for sure.

fisso416 05-07-07 07:43 AM

PS. I bet you could get floppy's at Active Surplus

somnambulant 05-07-07 07:57 AM

You'd be surprised how many floppies are around here. Not in use, thankfully, but still to be found in drawers/cases/etc.

i may have a set in my basement that i'm not using. i think they're actually 8 speed but if you switch them to friction they'll shift anything. and cheaper than $68; tradsies maybe.

Any mtb'ers up for another weeknight ride (or two)? I think Tues/Weds are both good for me, and the weather forecast is looking suhweet.

wah wah..

speaking of which, I thought you guys were behind Keith and I when we headed for the Center Island terminal yesterday... Where'd you go? I guess you guys weren't in as much of a "hurry" as we were.

ps. picked up a brie stuffed chicken breast at Cumbrae's on the way home. Exact same price as plain chicken breasts.. how could I *not* get it? :P

jeremywhitehorn 05-07-07 09:17 AM

i just checked those barcons; they're ultegra 7 speed index, whatever speed friction.

Canti brakes, I might have a set, have to see if they are in good shape.

I'd be up for a ride but I can't make it out there until 6.30 at the earliest so light might be an issue. I'm thinking of heading up to Albion on Sunday morning if anyone is interested in joining me.

No, we rode some more, played a little frisbee, goofed around until 5ish.

Shiznaz 05-07-07 09:37 AM

I installed a brake on my bike (when we were on the island goofing around), in a sloppy and ineffective fashion! Its going to need some reworking... I'll have to destroy my pretty bar tape job I guess...

pyze-guy 05-07-07 09:39 AM

Friends of ours dropped of their bikes for me to look at. One is okay to ride after repacking all the earings, brake adjustment etc. The other one though..so far it needs new wheels, bottom bracket, cables, a chain, levers and brakes and crank threads are shredded so bad I can't get my crank puller in, and the bottom bracket is pooched. Time for a new bike. The parts are so trashed I can't believe it. The front bearings were rusted in the hub. My ride was in way better shape when I got it, and it had sat outside for at least 3 winters. If my camera was working I would have taken some pics.

On the plus side I might have a 19" frame soon. After I cut off the b/b spindle to get the cranks off.

There's an Ontario Cup race at Albion on Sunday morning, so I'm not sure what will be open. Keith would likely know more (if there isn't info on the web about it). I'm considering going up on Saturday to preride, camping over night and then racing Sunday morning.
