Dear Staff, The term "floppy" is now considered objectionable. We here at management feel that the term "flacid" would be preferable. Please take this into consideration in future office conversation and when filling out TPS reports. Thankyou for your time and consideration. Sincerely your boss |

Wes when you and Keith rode off into the sunset a little part of me died. :D No actually we stuck around for a while longer and took the ferry from the east end (can't remember the name of that island for some reason.) Yum, the Ethiopian cuisine was delish... Definitely gonna have to hit up that joint again. We gotta gorge on all-you-eat, meat-induced-coma Korean Grill House next outing. |

Got a question.
I'm fairly new to riding in Toronto and am coming back from a hernia, 8 months off my bike, and hernia surgery. 48x16 wasn't so bad when I lived in Madison, WI and was in great shape...however, I've caught on to the fact that north is uphill here, and that I'm now shockingly feeble. I want to drop from 48T to 42T. I've worked on my road bike lots. Haven't worked on my fixed gear so much. Any tips on how to shorten the chain and generally make this thing work without ******** anything up too badly? Any replies, messages, or pointers toward other threads w/be greatly appreciated. |
If you have a frame with horizontal or semi horizontal dropouts, all it takes is swapping the chain ring, and removing an appropriate amount of links with a chain breaker. If you haven't done this before, either buy a chain breaker and be prepared to screw up a few times, or bring it into a shop and they will do it in roughly 20 seconds for you.

Okay, I feel dumb. That sounds incredibly simple. I have the tools from when I installed a powerlink on my road bike.
Thanks for the info :) |

yeah a power link basically makes it idiot proof. Its the reinstalling of chain pins that can be messed up by shearing the pins, bending the plates, or over/under inserting the pins.
|
Aw crap. My chain tool is apparently intended only for 3/32. To the shop I go!
EDIT: To the shop I go! Tomorrow! |
That must be a cool bike shop to stay open past 10 on a monday

Igor's? ;)

Sorry I just read all the toe-posts. Thanks for all the info. Not to worry sounds like the name of the game. BMC rocks the casbah. Somna... Auqua Teen fan? |
Hey you guys!
I'm back. 4 days in Algonquin and it was pretty much a perfect trip :D |
I'm in San Fransisco this week and I am blown away by the number of sweeeeet track bikes I have seen. Lots of IROs and Bianchi Pista Concepts, a few Bianchi Pistas, tons of conversions and the nicest of them all, a red Masi with that Suntour gold group, what a crazy crazy sick bike. I wanted to pick it up to see how light it was but I am sure that the owner was perched somewhere nearby, ready to drop down on the first person to mess with his bike. I couldn't believe it was locked up, to be honest, I would be way too nervous if that thing were out of eye-sight.
The scene here seems great, mostly because the motorists are very courteous and the roads are in great shape, so cycling seems very safe. There are some very very steep hills, of course, but that doesn't stop anyone from cycling, they just find alternate routes around the hills. The drivers are very good around the cyclists as well as around pedestrians, even stopping and waving me across the street when I was jaywalking. And yeah, jaywalking is frowned upon here, I found out quickly, because people actually obey the rules of the road; shocking, I know! I think I will have to move here, the city is that awesome. |

Did anyone hear from the guy on craigslist with the massive lot? I didn't hear back from him.
I don't want this to be an Igor fest, but I once saw him selling a little puppy with a electric cord for a leash. I think he was using it to pick up the hunnies walking by. |

Before I "knew" about Igor I went in there to look through some frames. He was like "What do you want the bike to be?" So I described the build, he cut me off and said "No, no! Not what the bike will be like, what will it represent?" Thanks for being my crackhead spirit guide, Igor. Thaaanks.
