Hey TJ... you going to be at Cavern this evening? I might be passing by there around 8ish and I can bring your pedals along if you're going to be there

Are we still talking about speakers here?

My parents once held a party for media types that the cops showed up too. I answered the door with two very drunk minor toronto media personalities and the cops left. It was jokes.

Rob Ford is on the phone with me right now!! He's an idiot.

We never got shut down though, despite selling beer to minors and such. I can't for the life of me figure out why we got off so easily. I bet the cops just really didn't want to have to break up a party. That must be the biggest hassle! They pretty much just told us to quiet down and bring everyone inside each time.

I had a blow out 70's party at the warehouse I used to live in. 200+ watts of bi-amped goodness plus 200 watt sub....you could hear it in the other end of the building. When the cops finally showed up it was the classic veteran/rookie combo. The young cop was straining at the door with Marlee and her roller girl outfit with blazing bong in her hand. While the kid wanted to get all gestapo style the older guy mentioned how his closet was full of apropo outfits and he would melt right in. They left with a cursory "try and keep it down"

Now that's a party I would like to have been too!

fatty could use a couple of rides around the block

According to him. More people have died on the roads with bicycles in the last five years. This has coincided with more bike lanes. Therefore, the more bike lanes you put in, the more deaths.

His thoughts on fixing the problem is to build either rumble strips between the bike lane and the car lane, or widen the sidewalk, or do something.

I asked him "well, let's assume there have been more fatalities in car to car accidents over the last five years" "well I have no proof of that" "ok, but let's assume it's true. By your logic, we shouldn't build any more roads." "well we aren't building any more roads.".

He also defended his AIDS comments by saying "well according to the World Health Organization, 73% of AIDS transmissions are from gays or IV drug users". "well, what about Africa" "I just stand by the World Health Organization".

He's fun to talk to, you should email him and he'll call you back.

He rides all the time according to him.

Shiznaz 03-09-07 02:45 PM

of course he rides all the time, he is a politician after all.

I_bRAD 03-09-07 02:46 PM

They don't call it a riding for nothing you know

iherald 03-09-07 02:52 PM

I'm so annoyed at his AIDS answer that I just wrote to the WHO to ask them if it's true. The cycling thing I think is wrong, and his logic is wrong, but the basic idea (that roads really aren't safe for bicycles) is right. I don't think saying "well no bike lanes, we need to do major construction to build new bike roads" is logical, but whatever. But saying that 70+% of people with Aids are gay or drug users is just wrong (I hope!!)

I love talking to the fringes of humanity. I bet his assistant is gettin' a real workout dialing the phone for him so much today. Ooooh what a s&*t storm. hahahahaha

I_bRAD 03-09-07 02:54 PM

FWIW, I think rumble strips are a stupid idea.

If they keep hiring the same contractors to do asphalt repairs the whole city will be one big rumble strip in a few years anyhow though.

Oh yeah.....I miss Frank Magazine terribly. That is all.

I will say that riding along the highways across the country I loved the rumble strips because it would make me feel more secure. That said, it's a bit different in the city where you have parked cars on one side, rumble strip and cars turning right, left, backwards, upside down, etc.

contractors?..I thought they were a prison gang.... Shovel asphalt onto hole, blunt force trauma to pile of asphalt using shovel, drive away smoking.

Ohh he's just soo everything I despise.

I_bRAD 03-09-07 02:58 PM

I meant rumble strips in the city. Rumble strips on the highway, with a bike lane to the right sounds like a dream- does such a thing even exist?

iherald 03-09-07 02:59 PM

One last thing before I forget (and have to start working again). He was telling me how bike lanes don't work. "I get calls every day from cyclists who complain about cars and cars who complain about cyclists." "are either they on streets that have bike lanes?" "I don't ask them that" "are there many bike lanes in your district" "no" "so, these comments have nothing to do with bike lanes, and may show why more bike lanes are necessary" "ummm"

Okay, so an old gf threw a bash for me at my place when I was 16 or so. We had a few hundred people in the house, backyard and park next to the house. When the cops showed up, they did it "break up a riot" style and swarmed w/ 5 squad cars chasing people through the park (which was the stupidest move ever because all the skate kids were loving that and getting their escape/evade on, with beer in hand). So there I am drunk off my ass on the front lawn taking in all the mayhem with a grin on my face when one of the cars parks on my lawn and an officer gets out. She walks over to me, stops and points down at the 40oz lying on the lawn in front of me.

"What's that?"
"I dunno." (I seriously thought she was wondering what kind, not being rhetorical)
"It's a beer, smartass. Who's house is this?"

Things went downhill from there, but man ... good times.

Then there was the time a cop got in my gf's face (she was apparently within 100 ft of some people who had done something wrong and therefore could be arrested) and started swearing at her, so I pulled the "what exactly did you just say to her, because I heard you say such and such but that doesn't sound like proper conduct ..." routine. He shut up and just ****ing hated me at that point, which is when another friend walked over with a 2-4 in hand from the beer store. That immediately got confiscated on the basis of cop-rage, so we ended up driving over to the police station and had the cop return our beer. He literally took me aside and told me, "Hey Mr. Lawyer, It's going to be a long summer and you can be certain I'll meet up w/ you again."

*siiigh* ... I love a man in uniform. ;)

iherald 03-09-07 03:01 PM

I think someone should call up our friend and the members of the media and suggesting everyone go for a little bike ride, and I'll drive the car that t-bones him. "oh, you're right, it's not safe..." :)

"Well I dont normally drink with jackhole cops, but seeing as you seem to want to better yourself I will consider it. You bring the beer next time"
