he is a bit of a workaholic so as far as notice goes, probably not (it all depends on what you want too). but if you're getting a full sleeve wouldn't you rather book it all at once? getting four hours of work and then waiting forever for the next appointment would kinda suck, but that's just my 2 cents. best thing to do would be to bring your artwork with you and have a chat with him. because he is so booked up when i made my appointments (last may!) i just booked a bunch of four hour sits but it looks like i might not need a couple so there might be another one free on may 30th

racist comments?

In all seriousness, Bikeforums is pretty good about racism but there is a lot of homophobia in other threads/forums, notably the Road forums. I guess jocks will be jocks but I wish they would moderate that a bit more. I know two gay cyclists who can drop anyone on this forum (unless Ullrich lurks) and sexual orientation really has sweet-f-all to do with cycling.

damn right. casual hate is not cool.

They were not actually branded as Fujis but they are the same frames.

I don't know who makes the carbon fibre frames for Bikesdirect either but they are also re-branded bikes, mostly Steve Bauer frames that sell for 2500$USD for the frame alone. It is really interesting what is going on now in the carbon fibre market....that stuff is getting cheap. Anyone with enough orders can buy the frame, as can be attested to by the guys in the road forum that got a sweet CF frame/fork for under 600$USD shipped. There is another one now too, this time for a Leader frame and it looks like it might be under 500$USD. Tempting.

I've been wondering about those bikes direct deals.. I kept coming to the conclusion that anything that seemed too good to be true probably was. :P Especially that Campy Record Motobecane that came up in the thread a while back. Mmmm.. Campy Record. Not that such an investment is in the cards for me right now... I'm still intrigued by Darkmother's custom Ti Habanero as well, speaking of "too good to be true".

No, I was kidding, I think that troll guy said something racist but I don't really recall. A troll and a racist, very silly.

Do you pronounce your last name 'daring'? If so, wicked.

Yeah, I think that the way it works is that there are only a very few factories in China/Taiwan that produce these aluminium or carbon fibre framesets. The big guys (Specialized, Trek, Giant, etc) give these factories specs/geometry/colourways/etc for frames that they want to be made for their brand. The factories probably sign a contract saying they will produce a set number of the frames and then ship them off to Specialized/whomever so that they can build them up and sell them. I guess that the factories can then take those plans from the big guys and make subtle changes so that they don't get sued (I am a little grey on this, perhaps suing in China isn't an option) and then run the machinery again and make a bunch of these great frames but without the high cost associated with a brand. I don't think that any of the geometry gets changed but I think that the welds might not be as smooth or perhaps they wouldn't use the same grade of material, but they are damned close to the same thing.

There are a couple of other people who sell these frames besides Bikesdirect, mostly on eBay but we all know that the Spicer entry level frame is the same as a Fuji Track bike which is the same as the Windsor Hour which is the same as......something else out there that hasn't been noticed.

There was a thread in one of the forums here about my road bike too, a Specialized Roubaix Elite, wherein this guy in Singapore was selling a whole bunch of the exact same frame for very cheap, one of them ending at under a 100$USD, great frame for a fantastic price. He also had some Langster S-Works frames for 255$USD, another great deal.

more like during but you're close. most people just say dooring. The true spelling is Döring.

i'd like to say that i can do no handed track stands in my kitchen while taking a picture of my own arm but unfortunately, no. i did 3 backwards circles in a row today though! woo hoo! who's up for a trackstand/backwards circle/skid comp. sometime soon?? maybe before/after the poker run?

You're mistaken on this. the spicer stock steel/mercier kilo tt/khs flite 100 are all the same. The windsor hour/fuji track are the same as well, but not as good as the spicer/mercier/khs imo.

I love my KHS. Rack and fender braze ons, no cable stops, track geometry, nice ride (kind of strange bike if you ask me, but great). Once my friend finally coughs up my chris king headset (shimon aka shimbot) its going on this bike. I could even upgrade the stem and seatpost to something lighter, but really whats the point in doing something like that when I have a trunk pack strapped onto the rack?

I'm always up for fixie tomfoolery, although I think your 3 backwards circles will likely beat everyone else (speak up if I'm wrong). The few times I've attempted them I've only successfully gotten around 90% around, once. :)

Sounds more like a the-alleyway-behind-Cavern-tonight-while-safe type of thing to me. But maybe that's just because I promised the missus an afternoon of shopping tomorrow, so I'm not going to be able to make the poker ride.

somnambulant 03-23-07 02:22 PM

Thirty more, thirty more minutes to go.
I wanna be sedated.

oh ****.. I just realized I'm on my roadbike. Freewheel FTL. :P

ps. a Cadence Clothing style "Fast Friday" regular friday night competition isn't the worst idea! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B_pIwoJJ8MQ Although I have rock practice every friday, so I don't know why I'm suggesting such a thing as I'd necessarily have to miss out on it almost every week. :)

pps. a version of that youtube video is what I got on dvd from Dustin @ Cadence last week.

Can someone do a brother a solid and grab a sleeve of plastic beer cups on the way. I would be grateful.

All local B.F. members are invited. A typical meeting consists of malt beverages, combustable substances and discussions of how to make our lovely city a safer environment for all. Stop by...we will be here till 9 or so.
