i've been ipod-free since mine was stolen two years ago. it's kind of liberating - you can HEAR things again... eavesdrop on subway conversations, traffic, streetcars, your own thoughts.

... or maybe i'm just a hippie.

Hey I think I saw you riding south on Yonge just a bit north of Dundas around 4:20/30ish yesterday? I was booking it riding north on my dark grey track bike.

just the thought of being on transit makes me shudder. let alone without an ipod to save my soul. going commando is the true liberation!

Welcome to me when I can't bike.

Time to clean my drive train before I get it filthy and crusty again

Nope, you hear all kinds of interesting stuff. F'rinstance a group of folks was discussing the merit and social implications of threesomes. Very interesting stuff...

Jeremy is that rear wheel cassette or thread-on?

Zippered, how long did the Exustars take to break in? I'm still waffling over what shoes to get.

I had a pair of exustars before my sidis. Not worth it imho.

That's what I keep hearing from you and others.. it's just really hard trying to justify shelling out $250+tax (The "normal" sidi's seem a bit too narrow for my stumpy/wide feet, so I'd have to go Mega) when I only planned on $100 tops at the start. "Real salary" dreams on a grad student budget...

I was looking at these shoes for when I get my recumbent in the spring http://www.mec.ca/Products/product_d...=1174765808492

doesn't matter, in fact it could be any 6-7 or 8 speed with 126-130 spacing as i intend to use it with friction shifters.

cavit8 03-24-07 02:28 PM

Oops, just realized that's a want rather than an offer... Sorry, I gave away my last 700 to 32flavours.

If you can't get sidis, i'd just stick with clips and straps. I commute on these now with my running shoes and they work just fine. In fact I almost prefer this if i'm not doing long country rides, the sidis are much heavier than my superlight running shoes and I can't walk in them (the road versions you can't anyways...).

Not to mention you don't need to get the pedals or replace your cleats.

i bought these the summer of '05. i find the tongue to be a bit uncomfortable, but i find that about a lot of shoes. i don't recall needing time to break them in. the only thing that have worn on them so far is the metal cleats. they've been worn on almost a daily basis (except when i wear my sidi's with my campy pedals!) from early spring to late fall, but not necessarily all day. they've definitely gotten soaked, although i do tend to switch to my lake winter shoes if i know it's gonna be pouring. oh and i like the fact that there's reflective material on the heels. /review

wow! i'm so glad i was able to go to the poker run! i'm still smiling! fun times, good cause, nice people!

That was me!

I got the Sidi Bullets from MEC (with a handy "spousal" discount, wahaha). They were one of the few mountain shoes there that were available in my tiny size. They are awesome! I feel like Astroboy...

Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of BF?
Astroboy knows...

And my big waffle on shoes is what I really want is sandals. I've been really choked since I blew the strap on my lakes and MEC doesn't stock 'em any more. I have a pair of Axo Vipers which are just barely too small but tolerable for short distances so it's hard to rationalize buying another pair of mountain shoes. bleah

And a potential converesion http://toronto.craigslist.org/bik/299766591.html

Fair enough - but I already "impulse-bought" the Look Keo's from probikekit for half price :p After looking around & seeing the pricing on "entry-level" road shoes, the build quality and apparent comfort of sidis seems like it's probably worth the extra dough. The pair I tried on today was quite comfortable, even though a bit narrow through my forefoot/arch.. I guess what it'll really come down to is if I can find the right size for my weird feet.

Thanks to all for the advice.
