go ahead which one?

shapelike 03-05-07 08:28 AM

Well, this is the first time I've had the energy to touch a computer in 4 days ... effing bike show insanity. I literally came home, stuffed food in my face and passed out (at times w/ my clothes still on) every day.

Our count was 4 people carted out on stretchers from the bmx course. I think the highlight of the show for me was chatting it up w/ the guys at the Scott booth and getting free argyle socks! Ahh, Scott, thanks for perpetuating my horrible fashion sense. :)

If we do the show again next year I think we're definitely going to have to bring the comfy chairs ... and load up the panniers on a touring bike w/ beer.

Nice. Anxious to find out. Are we at least going to be Team Jamis? :)

Well, I'll be on a Jamis of some sort, Phil bought himself a Dragon Team, you've got a Dragon Pro ... I'll have to look into getting us some cheap team kit. ;)

operator 03-05-07 09:10 AM

I'll show you team kit!

:)

I think if you can afford that kind of $ on a pair of wheels you dont really care about truing em....out of true?..time for a second set.

TRaffic Jammer 03-05-07 10:50 AM

Pop em back in the oven for 20 minutes at 350, cool on a wire rack and enjoy.

yeah....Braydon got the same rig. After looking at just about everything there....and glad handing and schmoozing some of the guys I know in bigger shops....the Jamis was the best deal. He is super stoked to hit the trails, as am I.

TRaffic Jammer 03-05-07 10:51 AM

SO he did get that? Cooool, he must be stoked.

We went to that shop with the used Specialized first...as we got there and were looking at it the shop guy pulled it aside for a guy who had just purchased it. In the end prolly a good thing.

Lol.
It's the bar angle and the ridiculously small sized frame.

My back just hurts lookin' at it

Bike show was pretty cool. Saw lots of people there, I went around mainly with 2wheelsgood/Pyze-Guy and Bradyn/Keith for a bit. Bradyn is justifiably stoked about that sweet new rig. At the show I got in on some deals myself. I got some Vittoria Open Corsa CX's for cheap. And... I picked up a beautiful lugged Guerciotti road frame for a nice price! It's beautiful, nice details. It's got some nice pantographing on the fork (semi sloping crown) and seat stays, chrome right hand chain stay and fork, Campy dropouts etc. Trying to decide whether to just parts swap from my Urbanite road frame or just scrape together some classic/cheap parts. Probably end up doing a bit of both. I might just run it with downtube friction shifters. Cheap/no adjustment required. Some wheels built around some nice hard ano rims would be perfect.

Here's a pic:

not bad for 200bones is it?

Danhalen 03-05-07 11:33 AM

This weekend was great. Bradyn, Pyze and myself had a blast at the velodrome saturday. We did track 1 and got to do a bunch of flying laps with our instructor. Then we rode a few more after during the recreational riding time. It was friggen great!

makes you feel a bit better for missing out on the Cyclops eh? Both those frames were nice. If you want some period correct wheels for it I have a pair I can give you cheap....maybe some other stuff too...I should have some Campy DT (not suicide regardless of what the young un's say) shifters...a quill bar and stem and some levers. Perhaps a rear derailleur and a front fer sure. Please dont sully its vintage goodness with modern *****mano parts...that would be a crime IMHO.
Of course you will never ride the Urbanite again but that might not be so bad.

cavernmech 03-05-07 11:46 AM

Nice Cambio track with a good spec on CL.

wow..nice score on the guercotti. don't treat it the same way you treat the urbanite! haha, although there's peace of mind riding a beater that can't be beat....
seems like lots of deals to be had at the show. big surprise that i didn't find anything.
hey doc, 2 shootings in 3 months is crazy. good to know you're ok. crazy how bystanders seem to always get hit in random shootings.
someone buy that cambio.

Sweet thanks! I'll come by and check that stuff out! Yeah, I like the chrome semi-sloping fork on the Guerciotti better than the Cyclops' round-shouldered highly be-decaled fork anyway. The Cyclops had maybe a bit more Canadian/rare factor which was cool and the paint was in a bit nicer shape but I actually like the overall look of this frame a bit more. As I remember this one was a bit lighter too. Both frames were super nice and I'm glad I came to my senses before someone scooped this one up!

Don't worry this is the vibe that I really want to go for for this bike :D:

Wow, great deal! What is the tubing? Post pics and the price in the "Catch of the Day" thread in Classics/Vintage, you'll blow their minds. Looks slick!

Shiznaz 03-05-07 01:13 PM

yeah that sounds like a great deal. I made off with some 700x18c conti GPs and a louis garneau Maple leafs looking bike jersey. Plus mike gave me free michelin socks. Thanks to andrew, keith and mike for the hookups. I saw some great deals but was not in the market.

I have officially stopped looking for a small road bike for my friend because its a freaking damn annoying waste of time. He can find his own crappy bike and overspend on it because every great deal I find he either doesn't have the cash, or doesn't want to buy it 'now'. Its been like over a year and I've wasted hours and hours looking for him on CL, ebay, bike shops, bike shows etc. He's spent thousands and thousands of dollars on pot over the past few years too so its not like he is broke. He said he wants to spend 500 dollars and get a good bike, but I can't find a good bike for 500 dollars really. I found a bunch of great ones for 650 but they are too expensive for him. If he would just smoke one less ounce I'd put him on a sweet ride but he doesn't understand value and how cheap bikes are waste of money. Oh well, he's fat and lazy and only getting fatter and lazier. Try to do someone a favour and they just **** all over you. /rant
