congrats my friend (but don't tell my wife lest she get any ideas).

i'm still waiting to hear what happened to shiz's face.

My sister-in-law has a bike tralier reader and waiting. Guess I have to keep a geared bike around.

Shiz and I were coming out of Rosedale area and we both turned right and then decided to go left and his front went out from under him. Nothing serious. He was really lucky 5 minutes later on Serbourne as we were riding and at the last second he saw a parked SUV, panic swerved and missed it by about 6 inches. That one would have really sucked.

Craigslist seems like a good place for people who know what they're looking for, and want to fix it up. But that Canadian Cyclist Classifieds seems to be a good site. Any other sites where you might be able to pick something up locally (ie. go for a bit of test ride, and not spend an equal amount to the selling price on shipping).

2Wheels: Good seeing you yesterday!

In the $1000 range road bike you are prolly going to get no better than Tiagra equipment. Decent perhaps but not exactly durable. If I was going to spend $1000 on a road bike I would take some time and find the right fitting used bike. Canadian Cyclist is a good starting point although there are not usually a ton of bikes posted there. The upside is most of the folks who do sell bikes there are fairly serious cyclists so stuff is usually maintained/serviced properly and in good shape. Keep an eye on the used board at MEC...I often see some nice deals there. The biggest wear usually occurs on drivetrain and STI shifters so give those a good going over. I can never stress enough..especially on used...that if you find a Campy bike the shifters can be overhauled which can save big $ down the road. What size?

Yeah, seconding the used bike idea for a budget of a $1000....my full Ultegra Specialized Roubaix wasn't much more than that from Craigslist so I am sure that he can find at least a 105'd bike that is only a couple of years old. If he is just getting into a cycling, 105 is more than enough for him.

PinkBike.com has a pretty decent Buy&Sell section that is mostly Canadian. Craigslist is a crapshoot but you can sometimes get lucky because most people searching CL for bikes are looking for cheap stuff and $800+ bikes don't go as fast.

He's about my size, perhaps a little shorter. So something over 60 for sure.

I'll check out the postings at MEC. You can't go wrong with spending some time there.

Can do tomorrow (Monday), till what time Dan?

Hmm. Well most days I'm done around 5, although technically I'm on call until 6. There is a chance that I could get a late call in there somewhere that would screw things up but in all likelihood I could get there around 5:15-5:30. We should exchange numbers via pm and I'll give you a call 5ish and let you know if there's a problem. Sound good?

Oh man... fun times today. The end of dim sum, black gold @ i deal, trickery everywhere, safety in numbers @ Bellwood in the foot down ring. Good seeing everyone out. If all goes well I'll post some pics on Flickr later. Oh and thanks for tolerating the last minute shopping in the market. ;)

In the end Toby and I ran into multiple agro people. Trackstanding @ Spadina some dude walked up to Toby almost touching his shoulder just gunning him off because he felt he was in the way - he wasn't. I asked if he wanted a ride on my handlebars. He didn't. Then a dude in a silver Rav 4 - who admittedly and apologetically Toby had 5 minutes earlier cut off going in the other direction - almost ran us over @ King & Strachan and then said to Toby, "I'm coming for you" while Toby was stopped up on the sidewalk. Bonus, two toe headed kids heads peaking up over the back seats.

Didn't matter. Today pwned. The summer of awesome is upon us - as soon as the weather co-operates. :D

That just brought up a really disturbing image for me. No time to gimp it though.

Moron has kids? Wow what a waste of space.

You just earned yerself a Lawrence run at 5:10 buddy. :D

Danhalen 04-15-07 04:31 PM

Hell yeah today was awesome. Just now I put my saddle way back on my track bike. Voila way more comfortable and faster. You'd think that would occur to me sooner considering I just did the same thing on my other bike. Meh.

Oh god you're right *knocks on fake wood desk* Actually that reminds me of the good ol' days at the Mess. Being clear at 6:30 at Bayview and Lawrence. Ahhh the memories.

Pre-calling yourself more than likely clear at any given hour is indeed changing the physics of tomorrow's dispatch board as we speak. Danhalen has indeed set great motions afoot with his comments. :D This also includes trying to meet for coffee, lunch plans or the cute receptionist who takes her break at 3. Messers are indeed the dispatchers' willing minions until he sets you free.
