I'm goin out for a spin.. if anyone cares to join me and you have my #, give me a call/txt. It's supposed to rain for the next couple days, so I'm gonna try to get in a little bit of calm-wind + dry + a little sunshine (even though sunset is in about 30 mins).

I think even if you cut the chocolate with milk, you're still a chocoholic for life.... recovering at best.

I did that, it's fun but I gave it up for moderation, moderation is pretty easy now that I'm a bit older and married. When I did that I was messing & racing, and to occupy myself I began waking up at 5am, commuting in & working out at the YMCA as soon as it opened, followed by laps in the pool, then a second breakfast of smoothies with a starchy bread and juice, then off to work where I rode all day without safety meetings, healthy lunch, then work, then commute home, but not the 6 mile route I'd usually favoured, instead I'd take different routes on large arterials, stretching my commute in large loops to anywhere from 15-20 miles. Training rides on the weekend, road and off-road for variety, off-road races when in season.
My health, which was fine, improved. My diet, which was huge, expanded. My riding didn't particularly improve but naturally my endurance got a boost and there was a slight boost to sprinting. I gained 15 pounds, a lot for a little guy like me, but stayed at my usual next to 0 BFI(not anymore!).
It was great, but I found myself womanless after a short time, alll that riding and an extreme lack of partying because I wasn't sure how I'd do trying to have fun at parties I'd been going better prepared to for years.
It's great for the body and mind, but in the end moderation won out, which is better than the party I lived before going on the health/body kick.

I hope I can then count on my friends for some form of debacherous intervention. Hell if it goes badly, as my brain chemical levels start to return to default, my wife might insist on one. "Damnit guys just get him stoned will ya please?"

If by straight edge you mean having spent a large period of time without consuming illicit drugs or alcohol then yes.
If by straight edge you mean one of those really annoying kids who tries to get everyone else to stop doing what they want then no.

chocolate milk is a favourite of long-distance cyclists. think of it as an energy drink.
this is why i don't buy chocolate, ice cream or really any sweets because if they are in the house they will be gone in one sitting.

i've been doing Harm Reduction work for a couple years now. it would be strange for me not to drink, because even as a wee one it was always just around... i remember having hot toddys when sick, a taste of wine with dinners etc. not being able to be safe would be even harder because it just helps with pain/nausea/anxiety and such things so well. aw crap speaking of work...
ps. speaking of booze: i've given up trying to acquire a taste for scotch. yes, it evaporates off the palate blah blah blah it still tastes like burning to me!
