Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Just an overlook by Evergreen. I'm not sure if it's a farm, or just a habitat type thing. You can see the Woody Allen Sleeper House from that area as well.

Impressive and deceptively dangerous animals. I ride by a small bison farm on my bike pretty regularly, although I'm sure seeing them in the wild is more striking.

Yes. Thanks. She had a good swim, but the bike killed her against the other girl. My daughter was, as I understand it, going about 18 to 20 while the Junior Olympian was going 26 to 28.

In draft legal triathlons they run laps on the bike leg. For my daughter the bike leg was 20k, four laps. In draft legal triathlons if you get lapped on the bike leg, you are done.

Its probably because you didn't get her the Tri bike.

I rode the Lemond up the mountain but didn't come close to @LAJ's climbing number. Only 7,165ft.

Getting from that patch of road down there to this patch of road up here was particularly painful.

I also happened by a structure that figures prominently in a popular film:

The two lifts I rode by were closed

Supposed to be hot and sticky today. I was heading out for a long solo ride but got a text from friends about a long slow trike ride. I don't ride trike much in the Summer but slow with friends in this heat might be better than fast and solo.

Draft-legal triathlon does; it's the sort done by ITU and the Olympics. There's little of it done stateside, but it's bonkers. Changes the dynamic completely.

Was hot and sticky for us yesterday, like nuzzling in someone's armpit. Looks like more of the same, today.

And laxative! Don't forget that nothing is quite as laxative as blueberries (except maybe prunes). At your age that is a big plus right?

I'm all out of sorts today.

For the last couple weeks I've had some slowly worsening heartburn that has been reducing my appetite and interrupting my sleep, but yesterday it culminated in the mother of all heartburn that left me nearly doubled up on the floor for most of the day. I finally went out and picked up some Prilosec (generic) and started on a round of that last night. Nothing else ever seems to touch my heartburn at all. Of course it takes like 12 hours to start working so I spent the night unable to lay on my side or front and had to resort to laying on my back which doesn't work for me. Ended up reading (Brent Weeks) most of the night and only got a few hours of sleep.

On the plus side I am no longer in any pain today! I'm just weak and tired with a slightly upset stomach.

I read The Way of Shadows and it frustrated me. I wanted to see where the story was going to go, but thought that the writing was maddeningly bad at times. I did finish TWoS, but didn't bother with the rest of the series, a rarity for me. Maybe I'll hope that it was just first novel growing pains and pick it back up if we have a batten-down-the-hatches winter.

I started with the Lightbringer series and when I finished those started on TWoS which I'm reading now. The Lightbringer work is much more polished.
