Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Be careful. If you slow down to take a photo, they're going to yell at you.

Gorgeous rolling out there and a nice juxtaposition versus the Adirondack Park. Amazing long rollers... I hope the next version of the CADK tour biases East a bit more in order to incorporate more climbing and descents...some hair-raising roads on the east side of the park. I'll be sure and post about the next one.

The Tutu Girls! They wore different themed matching tutu outfits every day...Nice gals.

Apparently the fake bear I zoomed by on the 5th day was a real bear. I also got caught up in a spat between some bucks. Two 4 pointers had strolled out on the road in front of me, about 20 and 50 yards off respectively...My drivetrain is quite stealth and my discs silently whispered to a stop. They were flicking tails at each other and posturing then they both were looking past me, as in behind.

I turn around and not more than 30 feet away was a rather large bull, a good ten points...The two youngin's took off, I introduced myself cordially and he just grunted. I rolled on my merry way.

Back in the day here it was called OCP. Surely you remember those fun times.

We are currently drinking coffee and debating the route we'll take today.
LoP: Let's go by Blue Lake. There'll be nothing but crickets today.
Me: Are you crazy? There's probably an outdoor concert and there will be a drowning and the whole road will be closed.
LoP: We could take Spring Hill Road up..
Me: That sounds nice.
LoP: But it doesn't look like it's continuous.
Me: Well, then no.
LoP: This looks rideable, doesn't it?
Me: Isn't that private property?
LoP Well, yeah. But I mean, you just cut under these trees and you can ride right along here.
Me: Unless there's someone in that building with a shotgun.
But it will be fine cuz LoP is lucky and so far we're only an hour or two behind schedule.

Still, one way or the other, it will improve my riding comfort and that's important to me.

I am feeling quite good considering it was a full-on general anaesthetic. The anaesthnetist was a bicycle rider and we had several conversations about that -- he has a 2003 Scott road bike to which he has just gone from 23C to 28C tyres for commuting, plus a few other adjustments to make it more comfortable. See, it's guys like him who are "quiet enthusiasts" who go about riding without great fanfare but have a real clue as to what they are doing.

My last memory of him was discussing Dumoulin, Chavez, Froome and the Vuelta leadership, and who our favourite Grand Tour racers were...
Get better soon.

Last night instead of riding my bike in the worst storm Arizona has seen in years, I stayed home and ended up watching the VMAs.

Now I consider myself to be quite liberal...I mean, super duper uber liberal. However, I can honestly say there were multiple times that my jaw dropped and I said "I can't believe this is on television!!"

Honestly, what kind of **** show was that and what the hell are kids watching today that this is considered normal?!

Hey UD, nice looking tour! I have ridden some of those roads, and wouldn't ride some of them on a bet. I don't know which way you went through Blue Mountain Lake, but one of my more fun cycling memories was passing a VW Microbus on the long climb heading Northeast out of town. Now, that says more about the VW Microbus than me, but it was a ball chasing it down and passing it.

i cannot stand award shows of any kind, nor do i have a television, so i dont know exactly what went on. i did hear that the wonderchild miley cyrus was hosting, which led my expectations to around the same intersection as your experience.

mtv has always been pushing boundaries, but i dont think anyone really cares about them anymore so theyre just doing crazy **** for ratings.

heres an idea, get some ****ing music back on.

i made a prediction when i was like 13 that girls would be walking around in lingerie by the time i had kids, not only is it true, but its ahead of schedule. yay america.
