I drive a BMW. Just like people get confused when cyclists stop at stop signs, people look at me funny when I use turn signals in the BMW.
You ordered the Turn Signal option on your BMW. |

Donner's Pass? I've driven that. Gorgeous area (other than where there were large swathes of blackened fire damage).
We made it as far as Truckee, CA last night. Currently holed up in a Hampton Inn. I'm the early arrival, so coach & I may just meet up here for a little ride before Reno gets in full swing. One of the ideas he floated was Donner Pass, which based on our drive (in the dark) seems like it would be 5 miles up the hill we just came down. I was given three choices of routes with Donner pass being the hardest. I actually just want the prettiest. :) |
Donner Pass would be a blast to descend. I drove that back when I hauled the race car, and I remember the signs with the instructions, and thought that was pretty cool.

LAJ and RPK79, it looks like Donner Pass would be something like 17 mi/1500 ft of climbing out & back from here. Wow, that's nothing. Probably worth it to be able to say you did it. I still might pick one of the other options if they are way prettier. But otherwise Donner Pass it is.

I was just looking at segments on Strava. I guess there is a separate Donner's Pass road I wasn't aware of. I just came down 80 which doesn't appear to have any segments so I guess it may not by cycle friendly.

Yes, I think we'd be on Donner Pass Rd if we do it. We drove 80 last night and it's an interstate highway. Definitely not bike friendly, despite what @PhotoJoe may say. ;)

I would like to do a ride like that someday.

However, the plan is set. Donner Pass via Donner Pass Rd. We head out in about an hour. I'll shoot you some pics if I get anything worth posting. |

Gonna stop at the monument?
It's a beautiful day here. I'm even going to need to take these arm warmers off. |

Who needs more than one chainring in Florida?!?!
It depends where you ride in FL. One of the hillier areas is around Clermont. Here's an elevation profile for the Horrible Hundred coming up soon. Nothing compare to 6 Gap in GA or riding out west, but still not as flat as many people thing FL is. |

Whats stopping you? We drove 9 hours yesterday to get here. You could be in the Appalachians in less than that, right? Plus you have a cycling family. Just load up the car & do it. :)
