Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Jackass, burro, donkey, mule, whatever! Almost-a-horse is the pertinent category.

...I went into the LCF forum to look around, because there's some kid in the P+R who's unhappy his threads are being rerouted from LCF to P+R. Poor ol' @BillyD had a post or two in there I see. You guys need to rethink your union representation and renegotiate your contract, Bill. I got paid extra for **** like that in the fire department. Some kinda extra bump for a moderator qualified to handle toxic thread materials or something.

Dear Lord, must I go to indoor training this morning?

Yes, my child, get your burro out of bed and get going!

I had to be at the bike shop before 5:30 this morning, so that others could suffer.

The snowpocalypse is upon us. My morning commute time doubled since no one knows how to drive. I was kind of excited to see how the AWD handled, but it only popped on when I gunned it into the turn out of my parking lot. After I got on the main roads it was mostly a slow 20 MPH creep until I got to work. Accident on the main 4 lane I take so I took a roundabout back way into work, but the turnoff for that route was still 5 miles down the horribly backed up first highway that empties into the 4 lane.

Yesterday I rode my singlespeed out on some gravel and ended up next to the new trail they are building between my town and the metro. I decided to circumvent the caution tape and check out the progress. They've laid down a few miles of asphalt in one direction. Going the other way the asphalt stops and they just have nicely graded (but quite snowy, icy, and muddy) future trail as they wait to complete a fairly extensive bridge. They had the pylons in place so I imagine they're mostly on track to hit their deadline.

A) do not make the mistake that many AWD vehicle owners make: AWD helps you go, but doesn't improve your stopping at all.
B) MnDOT absolutely blows. This is my 3rd winter back in MN, and they've done such an amazingly poor job of maintaining the roads. 2" of snow overnight should not impact roadways what so ever.

1) I don't let the AWD alter my driving. Slow and steady while maintaining safe distance behind other cars. Today's drive was not slow and steady though. It was "I could be riding my bike faster than this" slow.
II) If you think MNDoT is bad go for a drive in Wisconsin.

Oh, I absolutely let AWD alter my driving (back when I had an AWD Audi), but not when there's traffic - ripping down the road going sideways is great fun.

I did just that last year (my dad lives in WI). At the time, the MN side of 94 was that choppy, compacted ice that MnDOT said was absolutely unavoidable given the alignment of various factors. Crossing over the bridge in to WI, the roadway on 94 was absolutely clear. Night and day difference.

I seriously wish phone number pads were the same as 10-keys on keyboards and calculators. I can't tell you how many times I have misdialed when trying to read a number and dial.
