Nope. I prefer to keep my lumberjacking somewhat secret. On flamboyant days I might rock those socks with shorts, though

...can you get away with wearing them at the naked bike ride ? You need shoes, right ?

They're usually "bare as you dare," so shoes and sock are A-OK

LesterOfPuppets 11-07-15 11:47 AM

Damnit, I hear rain smacking the vent covers on the roof. :( Shoulda woke up and rode out earlier. i was so giddy when I saw the dry pavement about an hour ago...

Mumonkan 11-07-15 11:47 AM

so noones gonna address the fact that the toes say "dick" on them?

Mumonkan 11-07-15 11:52 AM

john deere bridgestone project with wheels, seatpost/saddle, and stand in bars is only 23 lbs so far

i thought the 5lb front wheel was gonna tip the scales at 30 already, pretty surprising

There's a bin of threadless stems over at the Bike Kitchen, but I have not looked in there in ages because most of my needs are fo quill stems.........I'll look if you're not in a big hurry. They usually go for 5 bucks or less.

Thanks. I can do 1" or 1-1/8", just needs to be LONG, like 180mm. I guess I could get a zero-setback seatpost (which would be nice anyways, the seat is well back of the BB with stock seatpost) and make do with a 160mm.

We're in Puerto Vallarta. Sort of. Actually in the resort area just north of PV, which is called Nuevo Vallarta.

View from our room, the white conglomeration of buildings is Puerto Vallarta proper. It's actually a great city and super-fun to visit but we probably won't even leave our resort, the purpose of this trip is rest.

I might have mentioned previously that part of the reason we travel so much is because we own some timeshares. Sort of four but one we only have use of every other year (and therefore we pay only 50%) of the annual maintenance fee and one is a points-based system which correlates to maybe 4-5 days per year at Disneyland, depending on exactly how we manipulate that usage.

Anyway, I've learned how to trade these things and it's a convoluted process for sure. But right now we're staying in this mega-swank place called the Grand Luxxe. Concierge on every floor to attend to your needs (including making your morning coffee, the only thing I really use the concierge for honestly). Swankty swank place and it's cheaper per night than the Hampton Inn I stayed at recently.

This is looking out from the concierge desk on the ground floor of our building.

Is that noteworthy?

Nasty, nasty, windy ride this morning. I'm pooped.

...I'll look, but don't expect an answer before Wednesday. I guess you want the most upright angle you can get (trials) . The longest thing I got in the parts box from god is 120. Like I said, I hardly ever use them. Some strange stuff shows up at the co-op, that's for sure.

ps: i love how colorful your place is

Well...I rode 45 miles of gravel, dirt, carriage roads, horse paths, grass meadows, etc.. today on them. These tires are the absolute bomb. You can rip through absolute dreck on these and you just don't lose your footing, bouncing over rocks, cobbles, roots, whatever, you name it. Plenty fast, the hell with aero...just shrugs off anything that would jackhammer you on road tires...I don't think I'm going back to skinny tires. You can go nearly anywhere with these. I was running 45/55psi f/r. Thanks, that room is what we call "The Lemon Box...":

Did I miss what tires these are? I want to replace the knobbies on my new CX bike.

glad you like them, i figured you would - anyone i know thats tried compass tires has been happy with them

especially for uneven roads, your rolling resistance will be less with fatter tires/low pressure, they just deform over things instead of deflecting off

room looks even cooler the more i can see, and the cat jungle gym rocks, did you DIY that?

datlas 11-07-15 04:09 PM

I have a mechanical question...

Lately, I have noticed that when shifting my RD to a smaller cog, once in a while there is slippage for about 1/2 turn of my crank. It never slips going to a larger cog. It only happens a few times during a ride, and generally under load.

Any obvious cause to look for??

Mumonkan 11-07-15 04:11 PM

barrel adjuster, needs moar tensions

Maybe, but I am not so sure about that. It shifts fine up and down other than the rare times it slips as above.

Mumonkan 11-07-15 04:16 PM

if its only the smallest cog it might be the limit screw, usually the bottom i set it a tiny bit past the cog or it gives me greif

It does it on several cogs, mid-cassette typically.

Nope. If he was having lag moving up the cogs, he would need to add tension. Hesitation moving down the cog, say from 17T to 16T, is either a little too much tension or a sticky cable.

Knowing a little about datlas, I'm going with the sticky cable. Check for signs of corrosion on the RD cable. How old are the cables?

Mumonkan 11-07-15 04:21 PM

id definitely look at the barrel adjuster, and make sure the chains nice n lubed up and ready for action

shift it back and forth on the 2/3 middle cogs while making adjustments till the chain doesnt make any noise touching adjacent cogs, should be golden
