I just assume that basically no one actually shoots digital medium format. The cost is ridiculous for what you get and while a few can somehow manage to justify it, I think there's only about two of those people in the world. Full frame with fast lenses comes so close for so, so much less.

Kind of like buying a Krell amp?

Hey now, I know the D'Agostinos. Be nice.

We're in Mexico.
Gecko on a light fixture. Look y'all, you can see his brain and all his vertebrae and his stomach full of bugs. http://i771.photobucket.com/albums/x...014A973763.jpg |
From our last sail trip a few weeks ago. I finally got a chance to go through all the photos on the plane today.
Two versions of this photo, I can't decide which one I like better. Either way, they both capture how it feels when these dolphin appear. It's like a dream, just this beautiful transient thing that comes out of nowhere and then dissolves back into nothing. Which do y'all like better? Version A: More dreamy http://i771.photobucket.com/albums/x...2C4F62C6B3.jpg Version B: More dreamy-sharp, like when a dream is somehow both vivid & fuzzy at the same time. http://i771.photobucket.com/albums/x...8DF8732B3F.jpg |
I'm thinking B.

Truth, I liked the Krell gear. But, it always sounded more forward than I liked.

I also like this one because it has that same quality of the dolphin appearing out of nowhere. They come & go, I want to say out of nowhere, but that's not right. They come out of somewhere I can't know. It stretches my brain when I try to think about it.

Ditto. Love the gecko one, too.
A is over-edited. Everywhere you turn there's some little thing like that gecko. It's amazing to me sometimes. |

Has a halo in B...I like it.

In the halo pic, it looks like the dolphin is suspended and not even moving. But in the splash pic, you get much better feel for what they are doing. Everything is very quick, they are weaving around each other and above then below the water constantly.
The love the ride they get from the bow. I imagine that it's the same kind of feeling cyclists get with a long beautiful descent. :) |

One of my favorite things about dolphin photos is the way they interact with the surface of the water. Like the halo. Just beautiful.
And the splashes. This is from the same trip, it's my new Facebook cover page: Great photos...what are you using for a camera? |

The place that I used to work for, Sound by Singer, essentially made Krell. Andy was the first to take on Dan's stuff and he trumpeted the hell out of it. In any event, none of the D'Agostinos are with Krell anymore; they were bought and kicked out a handful of years back. Both Dan and his son, Bret, have their own lines, now. The first couple generations of Bret's stuff sounded sweet: big, honkin', Class A buggers - iron fist in a velvet glove kind of stuff. Whenever my stuff decides to die, I'm going to hit him up (hopefully he'll still be around, it's a tough biz).
My big rig was all Levinson gear except for the TT and the phono pre which was a Pass. The speakers varied starting with Maggie 3.5, then going to B&W 801 MIII, then I went with B&W N805. |

Hydrodynamics...Amazing creatures. When I went out with my brother on his submarine, as he was piloting the ship out of Norfolk, we had about 10-15 dolphins playing in the bow wave. Leaping, spinning...totally cool.
Great photos...what are you using for a camera? It's actually why I have so many pics. I have it on me all the time. Ridiculous thing is that I have 10,000 photos on my phone. So when I get a little down time, I've got stuff to play with in photoshop. They're all edited, I would almost never post anything raw. |

Man, trying to find cheap trials stems is tough. The stock stoker stem on the tandem was about 190mm, but I figure a 180 will work. But $50+shipping. Ouch. The most I've paid for a stem was $30, I think. I was hoping I'd never pay more than that for one.

My least favorite is A, but none are bad. Nice stuff, Heathpack
