I recently moved into a house that has been more or less neglected yard-wise outside of simple mowing. I'm planning on tearing out 3 small, ugly trees and pulling out all the half dead rose bushes next to the house this winter. Basically starting from scratch as there is only one good tree right next to the house.

But I'm an idiot and like that sort of thing.

I wonder if the functional spouts are legal in California?

...they were on all the plastic cans the last time I bought one. Have not looked lately. I know you can't buy a shower head here that will give you decent water flow without illegally modifying it, so I am hanging onto all my old gas cans. I'm kinda surprised we don't have speed limiters on our bicycles here.

In other news, slightly over 46 miles of running last week. New record. Easy week this week, other than the Turkey Trot, and next week I'm not sure what I'll do in the run-up to the first half-marathon of the season.

I did 10.1 miles which for me is a record high.

Just buy a watering can for your gas. Put a shower cap on the top when you're not using it.

Haven't tried one of those, but each of the two newfangled ones that I have tried have leaked all over the joint at/near the twist lock when the nozzle is being depressed.

Exactly, the pressure needed to open the valve at the tip of the nozzle makes the joint at the can and nozzle leak.

In Texas? Really?

Outside was 33* when I woke up; heat hasn't been on it. The floors were COLD after my shower - 61* indoors per thermostat. So, wool socks.

I had to scrape my windows before I left this morning. I hate winter.

Wool is awesome. Today was the start of wool socks season.

All year is wool season. Just vary the thickness according to the season.

Yeah, 150gsm merino is great next to the skin all year round, either as an only layer or as a base. I need to plunk down money for more merino this fall/winter, though; I wear it so often that a number of my shirts are getting threadbare in spots. :(

I'm almost thinking that I may get an NUC to pull double duty as a music playback source and network storage. My Win Home Server is getting long in the tooth and, from what I can see so far, it looks like Win10 has a most of the drive pooling and file duplication features that I'm looking for.

It might be possible to spend more on a bicycle, but it would not be easy...

...buy some olde steel thing, and it will slow you down so it takes longer to get where you're going. :)

Surely a more expensive seatpost is available? Anything else would be better looking.

Herbie53 11-23-15 01:38 PM

My weekend rides have taken on a somewhat more sedate off season pace, that said there are always a few guys that want to stretch a little here and there.

There was one of many such times this Sunday. Not sure who or exactly how, but as we motored down the shoulder of a local highway into a pretty good breeze, somebody hit the gas and blew the group apart. I was on the wrong side of the split and had to bridge. It was a long sustained effort, basically like a sprint lead out / 1k effort to get across...

....as I did that I thought to myself... if only I had more aero wheels/frame, electronic shifting, magical friction free bearings, a bike made of unobtainium, fewer/more graphics, some mace to spray at dogs, and 11 vs. fewer gears on the rear cog... No, I did not think of those at all. I just cherished the moment of being able to suffer through the effort and took in the satisfaction that I get to continue playing on bikes.

For me the fancy bike/bike stuff are a tribute to those moments. Nothing more.

I think it's an S-Works.

Not cheap and not very attractive, but allegedly smooths out the ride.

Herbie53 11-23-15 01:41 PM

just to clarify.. that is not mine... I have not quite reached the Lightweight Wheels / Campy electric level of devotion to hobby.
