Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Have you ever seen a Corvette with a door ding? I wish all my other cars were plastic too.

I don't kill people on bicycle rides these days, they kill me.

After contorting myself onto a road bike all day, I don't think I'd be able to cram myself and bike into a vette.

We ride upright and fully assembled in the Tahoe. You know, another Chevy.

I'm convinced the exercise that really gave me all this right knee range of motion after my total knee replacement in August of last year was getting in and out of this Corvette. Seriously.

I could use a new back. Do you think a vette would do the trick?

I was this -->ll<-- close to buying a frame and fork on nashbar last night. Chromoly frame and fork that could handle fat tires and fenders with either disc or canti brakes. I think I calculated it out to 125 bucks with tax (they do charge tax, right?). But alas, the wife would indeed kill me.

Glad to hear all good with you, PCAD. Some of us were wondering if you had done a "Thelma and Louise" with your 'vette.

I'm not in a financial situation where 125 bucks will not go unnoticed. Stupid me for buying a house...

But yeah, I'll get more chances later. I can outfit the Crockett for my needs and build a more commuter/touring driven bike later.

1) Glad to see you back!

2) A few months after my ACL replacement surgery on my left knee, I started a new job and was driving a borrowed car in awful traffic for 1+ hours each way. It was a standard with a stiff clutch. HTFU, right?

So after talking about it last night, I finally looked up how much I could get DA9000 rings for on a UK site (Shimano does NOT do any favors for US dealers...). Under 200 bucks, and I think I could easily get 200 bucks for my used Q-rings. I have probably less than 1K miles on them and they now fit all of the current standard "high end" Shimano groups. Should be an easy enough sell on the bay.

I think over the break I will switch back to the compact rings and put the other ones up for sale.

Correct. Maybe I'll stick around. FB isn't nearly enough stupid sometimes. I need the 41 to augment it.

I just bought black FSA rings for a third of that. But, of course, we all know how badly THEY shift.

Bikes: old ones

.
...the only way I'd pay 200 bucks for a set of chainrings is if I were riding with a puppy.

Seriously, I know they're not cheap, but anything other than the proper DA9000 rings on a DA9000 crank looks like absolute crap. If I weren't worried about looks, I'd keep the Q-rings.

Took a break from indoor training and two wheel machines and treated myself to a relaxing trike ride today on the frozen prairie.
