Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The ones on the spendy bike are carbon. You need carbon chainrings.

They most certainly will improve your average speed.

I was waiting to buy a camera, and for short time yesterday, it was at a lower price. I missed that, but at the same time, it also lowered all of the amazon warehouse deals and they stayed down. I was able to snag a "like new" one for 25% off of retail.

I've mentioned it here before, but I have Q-rings on the Domane. I really do think I ride better with them, but... they are ugly as sin. Like really bad. I might change back just because. If only the DA rings weren't so stupid expensive. I have the compact set that came stock, but would like a 53/39 on there.

..the extra weight from the anodizing will slow you going uphill, but assist you on the downhill legs of the race.

...I forget when chainrings suddenly got expensive. It was probably when they started pimping them out with drillium and anodizing. They really are not that difficult to manufacture, and I can recall having a collection of them in a bucket at various times. Reminds me I need to find that bucket.

I won't say that they are fairly priced, but if you've ever held a Shimano hollowtech chainring in your hand, you can see it's not a simple piece.

I've gone to these as an alternative (to Shimano or Sram) on Rotor cranks. I have not used Shimano since selling my 7800, but they shift at least that well and I think better than Sram ones. I suppose if you have a current Shimano crank you pretty much have to use the Shimano ones.

It will be interesting to see whether Black Friday prices are lower. I would certainly go back for a refund of the difference if that were the case.
We bought one of the Samsung UHD 4K 3D curved ones last fall and it's probably the best tv I've ever seen. Samsung does a great job with their tvs. Our old one was also a samsung...9 year old 1080p DLP. It still does a great job, but moving into a smaller house meant we didn't have room for a giant screen that couldn't be mounted to a wall.

Yes, you can view it from the side, which is nice in a tight living room. I think the curve also helps immerse you into the television, especially for 3d anyway.

Oaky, that settles it.

I'm going to get oval carbon multi-color chainrings.

I was on the wrong side of the split and had to bridge. It was a long sustained effort, basically like a sprint lead out / 1k effort to get across...

....as I did that I thought to myself... if only I had more aero wheels/frame, electronic shifting, magical friction free bearings, a bike made of unobtainium, fewer/more graphics, some mace to spray at dogs, and 11 vs. fewer gears on the rear cog... No, I did not think of those at all. I just cherished the moment of being able to suffer through the effort and took in the satisfaction that I get to continue playing on bikes.

For me the fancy bike/bike stuff are a tribute to those moments. Nothing more.
Well said, Herbie53.

That bike is something. Of course, I'm happy as a pig in **** with my sleds, but that thing is on a whole nuther level.

...I was talking about real chainrings, not that sissy compact crank Hollowtech bull****. It's a large gear wheel, with teeth and some milling to make it lighter. It's not a big deal in its purest form, and you must know me well enough to realize by now I'm all about purity in form and function. #catholicschool #wehadnuns

It is a little more than that if you want your front derailleur to upshift cleanly every time.

....those are pimpin'. I wonder when some kid will get his hands on them and strip the anodizing ? That Velo Orange stuff is tempting in so many ways. It's a good thing I have too many bikes.

Meh. A couple of half height teeth and a couple of pins, still doesn't justify some of the prices.

Might as well remind everyone that the best deal around in 130 rings is still going on. I'm actually gonna grind the teeth offa one of these to make a bashguard. Wonder if I should strip the clear ano off of it...

I spent an hour messing with the FD on the chain droppers bike.

For some strange reason it has now decided that it will not go from the small ring to the big ring.
