Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Damn new TV was delivered. Too big for my space. Had to brave Black Friday crowds to arrange the exchange, pick-up and redelivery. Dropped down a notch or two on specifications while also going from 60" down to 55". Still smart 4K but 120 Hz vs. 240 and no mention of quad core processor. Very unlikely I will notice any difference considering even my other TV with an even lower spec gives a picture I find "too good" and somewhat unnatural if that makes any sense. Saved $600 in the process of the exchange.

I should say here that the same salesman at Best Buy couldn't have been more helpful despite the madness going on in the store. He handled the transaction right in the home theatre department instead of sending me to customer service purgatory. (20+ people in that line). And he issued the credit to my charge card even without the merchandise being returned, pending the scheduled pickup. Good thing those guys aren't on commission.

Did I mention free delivery and pickup?

Despite being bummed about another few days wait, I am very pleased with the Best Buy experience.

Getting ready to grill another turkey this afternoon. It will be number two for the weekend. Number one was at my parents in SW Misseri on Thursday. Today my wife and the girls will be decorating Christmas tress while I cook.

On the way back from Misseri yesterday, my wife told me the Triathlon Team has a new sponsor. The new sponsor carries Cervelo, Look, Colnago, Scott and BMC.

If you decide to take it off, you should have some fun with it. Take it down to a goatee, tell the wife you're going to keep it that way for a while

Nice day to ride, temps started out around 60*, got up to mid 70* at finish. Group of about 12 good riders, constantly rotating paceline at a brisk pace with a few sprints. The size of the group was just right to keep the paceline moving smoothly.

So, making the space bigger wasn't an option?

I did measure in advance and found the opening to be too small. I thought I could position the screen in front of the opening, but the design of the stand precluded that. I didn't know about that. It would take a better carpenter than me to cut away the molding and retrim the opening of the shelf. When I put the TV inside the opening, the edged of the screen were obscured from any angle except directly head on.

I'd have cut out a piece of plywood to put the TV stand on. Weigh down the back of it with some cinder blocks.
